WIGNER FUNCTIONS FOR THE LANDAU PROBLEM IN NONCOMMUTATIVE SPACES

Abstract

An electron moving on plane in a uniform magnetic field orthogonal to the plane is known as the Landau problem. Wigner functions for the Landau problem when the plane is noncommutative are found employing solutions of the Schrödinger equation as well as solving the ordinary ⋆-genvalue equation in terms of an effective Hamiltonian. Then, we let momenta and coordinates of the phase space be noncommutative and introduce a generalized ⋆-genvalue equation. We solve this equation to find the related Wigner functions and show that under an appropriate choice of noncommutativity relations they are independent of noncommutativity parameter.

Wigner Functions for harmonic oscillator in noncommutative phase space

Jianhua Wang, Kang Li, Sayipjamal Dulat A

We study the Wigner Function in non-commutative quantum mechanics. By solving the time independent Schrödinger equation both on a non-commutative (NC) space and a non-commutative phase space, we obtain the Wigner Function for the harmonic oscillator on NC space and NC phase space respectively.

SOLUTIONS FOR THE LANDAU PROBLEM USING SYMPLECTIC REPRESENTATIONS OF THE GALILEI GROUP

R. G. G. Amorim, M.C.B. Fernandes, F. C. Khanna +2 more

Symplectic unitary representations for the Galilei group are studied. The formalism is based on the noncommutative structure of the star-product, and using group theory approach as a guide, a consistent physical theory in phase space is constructed. The state of a quantum mechanics system is described by a quasi-probability amplitude that is in association with the Wigner function. As a result, the Schrödinger and Pauli–Schrödinger equations are derived in phase space. As an application, the Landau problem in phase space is studied. This shows how this method of quantum mechanics in phase space is to be brought to the realm of spatial noncommutative theories.

Landau quantization of neutral atom in an electromagnetic field in noncommutative quantum mechanics

Obulkasim Asiyagul

Within the scope of noncommutative quantum mechanics,we study the Landau problem for neutral atoms in the presence of an external electromagnetic field.By solving the time independent Schrdinger equations in both noncommutative space and noncommutative phase space,we obtain explicit experession of Landau energy levels and corresponding eigenfunctions,at the asme time,we claculate the energy correction terms caused by noncommutativity, respectively.

A Note on Wigner Functions and *-Genvalue Equation

Sicong Jing, Bing-Sheng Lin

In deformation quantization, static Wigner functions obey functional *-genvalue equation, which is equivalent to time-independent Schrodinger equation in Hilbert space operator formalism of quantum mechanics. This equivalence is proved mostly for Hamiltonian with form Ĥ = (1/2)2 + V() [D. Fairlie, Proc. Camb. Phil. Soc. 60 (1964) 581]. In this note we generalize this proof to a very general Hamiltonian Ĥ(, ) and give examples to support it.

ON THE THREE-DIMENSIONAL PAULI EQUATION IN NONCOMMUTATIVE PHASE-SPACE

Ilyas Haouam

In this paper, we obtained the three-dimensional Pauli equation for a spin-1/2 particle in the presence of an electromagnetic field in a noncommutative phase-space as well as the corresponding deformed continuity equation, where the cases of a constant and non-constant magnetic fields are considered. Due to the absence of the current magnetization term in the deformed continuity equation as expected, we had to extract it from the noncommutative Pauli equation itself without modifying the continuity equation. It is shown that the non-constant magnetic field lifts the order of the noncommutativity parameter in both the Pauli equation and the corresponding continuity equation. However, we successfully examined the effect of the noncommutativity on the current density and the magnetization current. By using a classical treatment, we derived the semi-classical noncommutative partition function of the three-dimensional Pauli system of the one-particle and N-particle systems. Then, we employed it for calculating the corresponding Helmholtz free energy followed by the magnetization and the magnetic susceptibility of electrons in both commutative and noncommutative phase-spaces. Knowing that with both the three-dimensional Bopp-Shift transformation and the Moyal-Weyl product, we introduced the phase-space noncommutativity in the problems in question.

Noncommuting Coordinates in the Landau Problem

Gabrielle Magro

Basic ideas about noncommuting coordinates are summarized, and then coordinate noncommutativity, as it arises in the Landau problem, is investigated. I review a quantum solution to the Landau problem, and evaluate the coordinate commutator in a truncated state space of Landau levels. Restriction to the lowest Landau level reproduces the well known commutator of planar coordinates. Inclusion of a finite number of Landau levels yields a matrix generalization.
