We study the long-range behavior of spin correlations in low-dimensional spin-1/2 antiferromagnets with both Ising anisotropy and spatial anisotropy. We represent the spin operators in terms of spin-density operators and spin-phase operators. Then for spin-1/2 antiferromagnets, within a simple harmonic approximation, we obtain expressions for the spin correlations in the ground state. For the one-dimensional linear chain, we find that the two leading terms in spin correlation are (-1
)rc/${\mathit{r}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\eta}}}$-
c1/
r2 for large distance r. The power \ensuremath{\eta} depends on the Ising anisotropy, and \ensuremath{\eta}=0.405 at XY point and \ensuremath{\eta}=1.062 at Heisenberg point. For the two-dimensional square lattice, there is long-range staggered magnetization, and the dependence of magnetization on Ising anisotropy is given. For the crossover from one-dimensional linear chain to two-dimensional square lattice, we find that the disorder-order transition occurs as long as the interchain coupling is introduced. We believe that our method gives a unified approach to the long-range behavior of spin correlations in low-dimensional spin-1/2 antiferromagnets.
We use a variational mean-field-like approach, the coupled cluster method (CCM), and exact diagonalization to investigate the ground-state order–disorder transition for the square lattice spin-half XXZ model with two different nearest-neighbour couplings J and . On increasing the model shows in the isotropic Heisenberg limit a second-order transition from semi-classical Néel order to a quantum paramagnetic phase with enhanced local dimer correlations on the bonds at about . This transition is driven by the quantum competition between and J . On increasing the anisotropy parameter Δ>1 we diminish the quantum fluctuations and thus the degree of competition. As a result the transition point is shifted to larger values. We find indications for a linear increase of with Δ, i.e. the transition disappears in the Ising limit .
The
S=1/2 and
S=1 two-dimensional quantum Heisenberg antiferromagnets on the anisotropic dimerized square lattice are investigated by the quantum Monte Carlo method. By finite-size-scaling analyses on the correlation lengths, the ground-state phase diagram parametrized by strengths of the dimerization and of the spatial anisotropy is determined much more accurately than the previous works. It is confirmed that the quantum critical phenomena on the phase boundaries belong to the same universality class as that of the classical three-dimensional Heisenberg model. Furthermore, for
S=1, we show that all the spin-gapped phases, such as the Haldane and dimer phases, are adiabatically connected in the extended-parameter space, though they are classified into different classes in terms of the string order parameter in the one-dimensional, i.e., the zero-interchain-coupling, case.
We study the zero-temperature phase diagram of the two-dimensional quantum
J1XXZ−−J2XXZ spin-1/2 anisotropic Heisenberg model on the square lattice. In particular, the effects of the anisotropy $\ensuremath{\Delta}$ on the
z-aligned N\'eel and (collinear) stripe states, as well as on the
xy-planar-aligned N\'eel and collinear stripe states, are examined. All four of these quasiclassical states are chosen in turn as model states, on top of which we systematically include the quantum correlations using a coupled cluster method analysis carried out to very high orders. We find strong evidence for two quantum triple points (QTPs) at $({\ensuremath{\Delta}}^{c}=\ensuremath{-}0.10\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.15,\text{ }{J}_{2}^{c}/{J}_{1}=0.505\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.015)$ and $({\ensuremath{\Delta}}^{c}=2.05\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.15,\text{ }{J}_{2}^{c}/{J}_{1}=0.530\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.015)$, between which an intermediate magnetically disordered phase emerges to separate the quasiclassical N\'eel and stripe collinear phases. Above the upper QTP $(\ensuremath{\Delta}\ensuremath{\gtrsim}2.0)$ we find a direct first-order phase transition between the N\'eel and stripe phases, exactly as for the classical case. The
z-aligned and
xy-planar-aligned phases meet precisely at $\ensuremath{\Delta}=1$, also as for the classical case. For all values of the anisotropy parameter between those of the two QTPs there exists a narrow range of values of
J2/J1, ${\ensuremath{\alpha}}^{{c}_{1}}(\ensuremath{\Delta})<{J}_{2}/{J}_{1}<{\ensuremath{\alpha}}^{{c}_{2}}(\ensuremath{\Delta})$, centered near the point of maximum classical frustration,
J2/J1=21, for which the intermediate phase exists. This range is widest precisely at the isotropic point, $\ensuremath{\Delta}=1$, where ${\ensuremath{\alpha}}^{{c}_{1}}(1)=0.44\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.01$ and ${\ensuremath{\alpha}}^{{c}_{2}}(1)=0.59\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.01$. The two QTPs are characterized by values $\ensuremath{\Delta}={\ensuremath{\Delta}}^{c}$ at which ${\ensuremath{\alpha}}^{{c}_{1}}({\ensuremath{\Delta}}^{c})={\ensuremath{\alpha}}^{{c}_{2}}({\ensuremath{\Delta}}^{c})$.
We investigate the spatially anisotropic square lattice quantum antiferromagnet. The model describes isotropic spin-1/2 Heisenberg chains (exchange constant J) coupled antiferromagnetically in the transverse (J( perpendicular )) and diagonal (J(x)), with respect to the chain, directions. Classically, the model admits two ordered ground states-with antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic interchain spin correlations-separated by a first-order phase transition at J( perpendicular )=2J(x). We show that in the quantum model this transition splits into two, revealing an intermediate quantum-disordered columnar dimer phase, both in two dimensions and in a simpler two-leg ladder version. We describe quantum-critical points separating this spontaneously dimerized phase from classical ones.
