Abstract

We study the Bose-Einstein condensation of a gas with ${\mathrm{SU}}_{q}(2)$ symmetry. We show, in the thermodynamic limit, that the boson interactions introduced by the quantum group symmetries enhance Bose-Einstein condensation giving a discontinuity in the heat capacity ${C}_{v}$ at the critical temperature ${T}_{c}.$ The critical temperature and the gap in ${C}_{v}$ increase with the value of the parameter $q$ and become approximately constant for $q>3$.

Bose–Einstein condensation of a two-parameter deformed quantum group boson gas

Abdullah Algin, Bayram Deviren

We investigate the low temperature behaviour of a two-parameter generalized bosonic quantum gas with -symmetry, where q 1 and q 2 are real independent deformation parameters. We calculate, in the thermodynamical limit, several statistical and thermodynamical functions of the system through an -invariant bosonic Hamiltonian. In the low and high temperature limits, the specific heat of the system is obtained in terms of some functions of the deformation parameters q 1 and q 2 . At the critical temperature being higher than that of the free boson gas, the specific heat of the two-parameter generalized boson gas exhibits a λ-point transition behaviour. We also discuss the conditions under which the Bose–Einstein condensation would occur in the present two-parameter generalized boson model. However, the free boson gas results can be recovered in the limit q 1 = q 2 = 1.

Tamm's surface states and Bose-Einstein condensation

M. A. Solís

We calculate and discuss the effects on the thermodynamic properties of a 3D Bose gas caused by a gap $Δ$ in the energy of the particles constituting the gas that without the gap behaves like an ideal Bose gas. Explicit formulae with arbitrary $Δ$ values are discussed for: the critical temperature which increases as the gap grows; the condensate fraction; the internal energy; and the constant-volume specific heat found to possess a jump-discontinuity for any $Δ$ different from zero. Three dimensional infinite ideal Bose gas results are recovered when we the energy gap goes to zero.

The Condensation of the Relativistic Bose Gas in the Gravitational Field

Lin Zhen-Quan

For the relativistic Bose gas in the gravitational field, the Bose-Einstein condensation(BEC) and the thermodynamic properties are investigated using the local density approximation(LDA).The thermodynamic quantities are calculated in the non-relativistic(NR) and ultra-relativistic(UR) limits, including the transition temperature, the ground state fraction, the energy and the heat capacity of the system. We also discussed the continuity of the heat capacity at the critical temperature. It is found that the effect of the relativistic results in the increase of the gap of the heat capacity.

Bose-Einstein Condensation, the Lambda Transition, and Superfluidity for Interacting Bosons

Phil Attard

Bose-Einstein condensation and the $λ$-transition are described in molecular detail for bosons interacting with a pair potential. New phenomena are identified that are absent in the usual ideal gas treatment. Monte Carlo simulations of Lennard-Jones helium-4 neglecting ground momentum state bosons give a diverging heat capacity approaching the transition. Pure permutation loops give continuous growth in the occupancy of the ground momentum state. Mixed ground and excited momentum state permutation loops give a discontinuous transition to the condensed phase. The consequent latent heat for the $λ$-transition is 3\% of the total energy. The predicted critical velocity for superfluid flow is within a factor of three of the measured values over three orders of magnitude in pore diameter.

Bose–Einstein condensation of a relativisticq-deformed Bose gas

Guozhen Su, Shukuan Cai, Jincan Chen

The q -deformed Bose–Einstein distribution derived from the q -boson algebra is used to study the low-temperature behavior of an ideal q -deformed Bose gas with relativistic energy spectrum. The effects of q -deformation on the properties relative to Bose–Einstein condensation (BEC) are discussed. It is shown that q -deformation leads to some novel characteristics different from those of an original Bose gas, which include the criteria on the occurrence of BEC, critical temperature and jump of heat capacity at the critical point. The results obtained here provide a unified description for the properties of q -deformed Bose systems from the nonrelativistic case to the ultrarelativistic limit, so that some important conclusions in the literature are included in this paper.

Bose-Einstein condensation for general dispersion relations

Valdir C. Aguilera-Navarro, MANUEL DE LLANO, M. A. Solís

Bose-Einstein condensation in an ideal (i.e. interactionless) boson gas can be studied analytically, at university-level statistical and solid state physics, in any positive dimensionality ( d >0) for identical bosons with any positive-exponent ( s >0) energy-momentum (i.e. dispersion) relation. Explicit formulae with arbitrary d / s are discussed for: the critical temperature (non-zero only if d / s >1); the condensate fraction; the internal energy; and the constant-volume specific heat (found to possess a jump discontinuity only if d / s >2). Classical results are recovered at sufficiently high temperatures. Applications to `ordinary' Bose-Einstein condensation, as well as to photons, phonons, ferro- and antiferromagnetic magnons, and (very specially) to Cooper pairs in superconductivity, are mentioned.
