Spectral function and kinetic equation for a normal Fermi liquid

Abstract

On the basis of the Kadanoff-Baym (KB) version of the time-dependent Green's function method, an Ansatz for the approximation of a spectral function is offered. The Ansatz possesses all the advantages of quasiparticle and extended quasiparticle approximations and satisfies the KB equation for a spectral function in the case of slightly nonequilibrium system when disturbances in space and time are taken into consideration in the gradient approximation. This feature opens opportunities for the microscopic derivation of the Landau kinetic equation for the quasiparticle distribution function of the normal Fermi liquid and provides the widening of these equations' temperature range of validity.

In the frame of the Kadanoff-Baym version of the Green’s function method in quantum statistical mechanics it is proved that the Landau-Silin kinetic equation for a normal quantum Fermi liquid is valid in the case when the widths of oneparticle energy levels are taken into account exactly.

Different forms of the Kadanoff–Baym equations in quantum statistical mechanics

Alexander S. Kondratyev, Nazish Shahid

A new form of the Kadanoff–Baym equations for a system of interacting particles is offered on the basis of the retarded and advanced quantum Green’s functions. The comparison of the traditional and the offered forms of the equations allows to analyze the question to what extent Landau–Silin kinetic equations for the neutral Fermi-liquid and for the electron liquid of normal metals take into account quickly varying in space and time disturbances.

Generalized Kadanoff-Baym ansatz for deriving quantum transport equations

P. Lipavský, Václav Špička, Bedřich Velicky´

A systematic and unambiguous method of deriving generalized transport equations, i.e., equations for distribution functions having a single-time structure, on the basis of the nonequilibrium Green function is obtained, if the common Kadanoff-Baym (KB) ansatz is replaced by a modification which we call the generalized KB ansatz. This new ansatz is fully consistent with the dynamical structure of the theory and is independent of any specific representation. The resulting equations appear to be the zeroth-order approximation of a systematic expansion in terms of the collision duration. In the case of the electron transport in a strong homogeneous electric field, the generalized ansatz is shown to be in agreement with the superoperator methods, whereas the KB ansatz is known to fail in this case.

Generalized Kadanoff-Baym relation in nonequilibrium quenched models

A. L. M. Britto, Ashok Das, J. Frenkel

In the context of a broad class of quenched models, we derive a generalized differential form of the Kadanoff-Baym (KB) ansatz which relates the out of equilibrium correlated and spectral Green's functions. This relation holds at any time both before the quench (when it coincides with the fluctuation-dissipation theorem) as well as after it. We also examine, in the context of exactly soluble quenched models, the validity of some of the earlier alternative extensions of the KB ansatz.

Spectral Functions and Properties of Nuclear Matter

V. A. Danilenko, Konstantin A. Gridnev, Alexander S. Kondratyev

The Green’s function method in the Kadanoff-Baym version provides a basic theory for nuclear dynamics which is applicable also to nonzero temperature and to nonequilibrium systems. At the same time, it maintains the basic many-body techniques of the Brueckner theory that makes reasonable a comparison of the numerical results of the two methods for equilibrium systems. The correct approximation to the spectral function which takes into account the widths of energy levels is offered and discussed, and the comparison of the values of binding energy in the two methods is produced.

Fast corrections to the generalized Kadanoff-Baym ansatz

Anděla Kalvová, Václav Špička, Bedřich Velicky´ +1 more

A quantum kinetic equation for the density matrix is derived from nonequilibrium Green functions using the generalized Kadanoff-Baym ansatz and corrections beyond. The Markovian reconstruction of the Green function and the quasistationary approximation are used to approximate the corrections, making their implementation in numerical simulations faster. On electron tunneling under conditions when the prediction of the uncorrected kinetic equation seriously departs from the exact solution, we show that the corrections reduce the error by an order of magnitude.
