A New Approach to Probability Theory with Reference to Statistics and Statistical Physics

Nijalingappa Umakantha

A new approach to probability theory is presented with reference to statistics and statistical physics. At the outset, it is recognized that the “average man” of a population and the “average particle” of a gas are only objects of thought, and not real entities which exist in nature. The concept of average (man) is generalized as a new concept of represental (man) whose epistemological status is intermediate between those of the particular (the man) and the universal (a man). This new concept has become necessary as a result of emergence of statistics as a new branch of human knowledge at the beginning of the nineteenth century. Probability is defined with reference to the represental. The concept of probability is the same in probability theory and in physics. But whereas in statistics the probabilities are estimated using random sequences, in statistical physics they are determined either by the laws of physics alone or by making use of the laws of probability also. Thus in physics we deal with probability at a more basic level than in statistics. This approach is free from most of the controversies we face at present in interpreting probability theory and quantum mechanics.

"Which Way" experiments, possible breaking of wave-particle duality and new duality

Yi‐Fang Chang

Recent some experiments showed many new characters in quantum physics. The Which Way(WW) experiments imply possible breaking of wave-particle duality. From this the effectiveness of quantum-wave should be tested continuously for single particle,an exceedingly small time-space,strong and weak interactions of short-rang,and high energy, etc. These experiments provided some possibilities on developing direction of particle physics.According to the discussion of the statistical foundation of quantum mechanics and total characters of particle physics,it is derived a possible direction of theoretical development: new duality of symmetry and statistics.Since a relation between statistics and quantum field is me-to-one,the new duality corresponds to the general extensive quantum theory.

Counting Steps: A New Approach to Objective Probability in Physics

Amit Hagar, Giuseppe Sergioli

We propose a new interpretation of objective deterministic chances in statistical physics based on physical computational complexity. This notion applies to a single physical system (be it an experimental set--up in the lab, or a subsystem of the universe), and quantifies (1) the difficulty to realize a physical state given another, (2) the `distance' (in terms of physical resources) of a physical state from another, and (3) the size of the set of time--complexity functions that are compatible with the physical resources required to reach a physical state from another. This view (a) exorcises "ignorance" from statistical physics, and (b) underlies a new interpretation to non--relativistic quantum mechanics.
