Abstract

We present a general derivation of semi-fermionic representation for generators of SU(N) group as a bilinear combination of Fermi operators. The constraints are fulfilled by means of imaginary Lagrange multipliers. The important case of SU(2) group is discussed. We demonstrate how the idea of semi-fermionic representation might be extended to the groups possessing dynamic symmetries. As an example, SO(4) group is considered. We illustrate the application of semi-fermionic representations for various problems of strongly correlated physics.

SEMI-FERMIONIC REPRESENTATION FOR SPIN SYSTEMS UNDER EQUILIBRIUM AND NON-EQUILIBRIUM CONDITIONS

Mikhail N. Kiselev

We present a general derivation of semi-fermionic representation for spin operators in terms of a bilinear combination of fermions in real and imaginary time formalisms. The constraint on fermionic occupation numbers is fulfilled by means of imaginary Lagrange multipliers resulting in special shape of quasiparticle distribution functions. We show how Schwinger–Keldysh technique for spin operators is constructed with the help of semi-fermions. We demonstrate how the idea of semi-fermionic representation might be extended to the groups possessing dynamic symmetries. We illustrate the application of semi-fermionic representations for various problems of strongly correlated and mesoscopic physics.

Generator coordinate method approach to the dynamic group representation

Gong-ou Xu, Shun-Jin Wang, Yang Ya-tian

The generator coordinate method approach to the dynamic group representation is discussed in general. In various cases, either in group space or in coset space, representations of the dynamic group can readily be obtained with the generator coordinate method. Boson representation is just one form of the generator coordinate method approach to the dynamic group representation. Various representations of the dynamic group are described by the generator coordinate method approach to the dynamic group representation in a unified way. Not only is the algebraic structure of generators preserved, but also conditions imposed by (a) the Pauli principle, (b) symmetry properties, (c) dynamic properties, and (d) other concrete properties of nuclear systems are well incorporated in these representations, so that the original fermion representation is faithfully realized. The generator coordinate method approach to the dynamic group representation is strictly a transformation theory from the fermion representation to continuous variable or boson representations of the dynamic group. Examples are given for showing the essence and the prospects of applications of the generator coordinate method approach to the dynamic group representation.

New fermionic description of quantum spin liquid state

Alexei M. Tsvelik

A novel approach to S=1/2 antiferromagnets with strong quantum fluctuations based on the representation of spin-1/2 operators as bilinear forms of real (Majorana) fermions is suggested. This representation does not contain unphysical states and thus does not require the imposition of constraints on the fermionic Hilbert space. This property allows one to construct a simple and effective mean field theory of the spin liquid state. As an example illustrating the basic properties of this state I consider a model of Kondo lattice. It is shown that this model has a singlet ground state; elementary excitations have a spectral gap and are S=1 real (Majorana) fermions.

Schwinger-Keldysh Semionic Approach for Quantum Spin Systems

Mikhail N. Kiselev, R. Oppermann

We derive a path-integral Schwinger-Keldysh approach for quantum spin systems. This is achieved by means of a semionic representation of spins as fermions with imaginary chemical potential. The major simplifying feature in comparison with other representations (Holstein-Primakoff, Dyson-Maleev, slave bosons/fermions, etc.) is that the local constraint is taken into account exactly. As a result, the standard diagram technique with the usual Feynman codex is constructed. We illustrate the application of this technique for the Néel and spin-liquid states of the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model.

Gaussian phase-space representations for fermions

Joel Frederick Corney, P. D. Drummond

We introduce a positive phase-space representation for fermions, using the most general possible multimode Gaussian operator basis. The representation generalizes previous bosonic quantum phase-space methods to Fermi systems. We derive equivalences between quantum and stochastic moments, as well as operator correspondences that map quantum operator evolution onto stochastic processes in phase space. The representation thus enables first-principles quantum dynamical or equilibrium calculations in many-body Fermi systems. Potential applications are to strongly interacting and correlated Fermi gases, including coherent behavior in open systems and nanostructures described by master equations. Examples of an ideal gas and the Hubbard model are given, as well as a generic open system, in order to illustrate these ideas.

Fermionic representations of integrable lattice systems

Gohmann, F, Murakami, S, 村上修一 +1 more

We develop a general scheme for the use of Fermi operators within the framework of integrable systems. This enables us to read off a fermionic Hamiltonian from a given solution of the Yang-Baxter equation and to express the corresponding L-matrix and the generators of symmetries in terms of Fermi operators. We illustrate our approach through a number of examples. Our main example is the algebraic Bethe ansatz solution of the Hubbard model in the infinite coupling limit.
