Critical Q=1 Potts Model and Temperley-Lieb Stochastic Processes

Abstract

We consider the groundstate wave function and spectra of the $L$-site XXZ $U_q[s\ell(2)]$ invariant quantum spin chain with $q=\exp(πi/3)$. This chain is related to the critical Q=1 Potts model and exhibits $c=0$ conformal invariance. We show that the problem is related to Hamiltonians describing one-dimensional stochastic processes defined on a Temperley-Lieb algebra. The bra groundstate wave function is trivial and the ket groundstate wave function gives the probabilty distribution of the stationary state. The stochastic processes can be understood as interface RSOS growth models with nonlocal rates. Allowing defects which can hop on the interface one obtains stochastic models having the same stationary state and spectra (but not degeracies) as the XXZ chain.

Correlation functions in conformal invariant stochastic processes

Francisco Castilho Alcaraz, Vladimir Rittenberg

We consider the problem of correlation functions in the stationary states of one-dimensional stochastic models having conformal invariance. If one considers the space dependence of the correlators, the novel aspect is that although one considers systems with periodic boundary conditions, the observables are described by boundary operators. From our experience with equilibrium problems one would have expected bulk operators. Boundary operators have correlators having critical exponents being half of those of bulk operators. If one studies the space-time dependence of the two-point function, one has to consider one boundary and one bulk operators. The Raise and Peel model has conformal invariance as can be shown in the spin 1/2 basis of the Hamiltonian which gives the time evolution of the system. This is an XXZ quantum chain with twisted boundary condition and local interactions. This Hamiltonian is integrable and the spectrum is known in the finite-size scaling limit. In the stochastic base in which the process is defined, the Hamiltonian is not local anymore. The mapping into an SOS model, helps to define new local operators. As a byproduct some new properties of the SOS model are conjectured. The predictions of conformal invariance are discussed in the new framework and compared with Monte Carlo simulations.

Algebraic structure of translation-invariant spin-1/2xxzandq-Potts quantum chains

Dan Lévy

Spin-1/2 xxz and q-Potts quantum chains with translation-invariant boundary conditions are analyzed as representations of the periodic Temperley-Lieb-Jones algebra. A connection with the affine Hecke algebra is established and used to find the irreducible content. This analysis provides an explanation for both the degeneracies and the overlap in the spectra of these models.

Numerical investigation of correlation functions for the UqSU(2) invariant spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain

P F Arndt, T Heinzel

We consider the U q SU(2) invariant spin-1/2 XXZ quantum spin chain at the roots of unity q=exp(i pi /(m+1)), corresponding to different minimal models of conformal field theory. We conduct a numerical investigation of the correlation functions of U q SU(2) scalar two-point operators in order to find which operators in the minimal models they correspond to. Using graphical representations of the Temperley-Lieb algebra we are able to deal with chains of up to 28 sites. Depending on q, the correlation functions show different characteristics and finite-size behaviour. For m=2/3, which corresponds to the Lee-Yang edge singularity, we find the surface and bulk critical exponent -1/5. Together with the known result in the case m=3 (Ising model) this indicates that in the continuum limit the two-point operators involve conformal fields of spin-m-1/m+1. For other roots of unity q the chains are too short to determine the surface and bulk critical exponents.

On the critical behaviour of the anisotropic biquadratic spin-1 chain

Francisco Castilho Alcaraz, André Luiz Malvezzi

A study is made of the anisotropic biquadratic spin-1 Hamiltonian introduced by Batchelor et al. (1990). This model can be represented as a sum of operators satisfying a Temperley-Lieb algebra. Its critical behaviour is explored by using the relations between mass-gap amplitudes and critical exponents predicted by conformal invariance. The model, like in the XXZ chain, is found to exhibit a line of continuously varying exponents. By comparing its eigenspectrum with that of the XXZ Hamiltonian, several exact values are predicted.

Spin-s quantum chains and Temperley-Lieb algebras

Murray T. Batchelor, Michael N. Barber

The authors construct a family of isotropic spin-s quantum chains consisting of sums of operators satisfying a Temperley-Lieb algebra. Exact values for the infinite lattice limit of the ground-state energy per site and for the (non-zero) gap to the lowest energy excited state follow from the Temperley-Lieb equivalence with a Bethe ansatz soluble XXZ model. The family of spin chains includes the biquadratic spin-1 model.

Quantum spin chains of Temperley–Lieb type: periodic boundary conditions, spectral multiplicities and finite temperature

Britta Aufgebauer, Andreas Klümper

We determine the spectra of a class of quantum spin chains of Temperley–Lieb type by utilizing the concept of Temperley–Lieb equivalence with the S = 1/2 XXZ chain as a reference system. We consider open boundary conditions and, in particular, periodic boundary conditions. For both types of boundaries the identification with XXZ spectra is performed within isomorphic representations of the underlying Temperley–Lieb algebra. For open boundaries the spectra of these models differ from the spectrum of the associated XXZ chain only in the multiplicities of the eigenvalues. The periodic case is rather different. Here we show how the spectrum is obtained sector-wise from the spectra of globally twisted XXZ chains. As a spin-off, we obtain a compact formula for the degeneracy of the momentum operator eigenvalues. Our representative theoretical results allow for the study of the thermodynamics by establishing a TL-equivalence at finite temperature and finite field .
