Abstract

From the operator algebraic approach to stationary (quantum) Markov processes there has emerged an axiomatic definition of quantum white noise. The role of Brownian motion is played by an additive cocycle with respect to its time evolution. In this report

STATIONARY QUANTUM STOCHASTIC PROCESSES FROM THE COHOMOLOGICAL POINT OF VIEW

Grigori Gennadievich Amosov

Stationary quantum stochastic process j is introduced as a *-homomorphism embedding an involutive graded algebra $\tilde K=\oplus_{i=1}^{\infty}K_i$ into a ring of (abelian) cohomologies of the one-parameter group $α$ consisting of *-automorphisms of certain operator algebra in a Hilbert space such that every x from $K_i$ is translated into an additive $i-α$-cocycle j(x). It is shown that (noncommutative) multiplicative markovian cocycle defines a perturbation of the stationary quantum stochastic process in the sense of such definition. The $E_0$-semigroup $\tilde β$ on the von Neumann algebra $\cal N$ associated with the markovian perturbation of K-flow j posseses the restriction $\tilde β|_{{\cal N}_0}, {\cal N}_0\subset {\cal N}$, which is conjugate to the flow of Powers shifts $β$ associated with j. It yields for $\tilde β$ an analogue of the Wold decomposition for classical stochastic process on completely nondeterministic and deterministic parts. The examples of quantum stationary stochastic processes on the algebras of canonical commutation, anticommutation and square of white noise relations are considered. In the model situation of the space $L^2(\mathbb R)$ all markovian cocycles of the group of shifts are described up to unitary equivalence of perturbations.

We summarise recent results concerning quantum stochastic convolution cocycles in two contexts—purely algebraic and $C^*$-algebraic. In each case the class of cocycles arising as the solution of a quantum stochastic differential equation is charact

Langevin Formulation of Quantum Dynamics

M. Roncadelli

We first point out that nonrelativistic quantum mechanics formulated at imaginary time s = it can formally be recognized as the Fokker-Planck description of a classical Brownian motion, which occurs (in general) in a medium where particles are absorbed and emitted. We next offer a new formulation of quantum dynamics, which is basically the Langevin treatment of that Brownian motion. More explicitly, we derive a noise average representation of the transition probability W ( X", s"|X', s' ) in terms of the solutions to a Langevin equation with a Gaussian white noise. Upon analytic continuation back to real time W ( X", s"|X', s' ) becomes the propagator of the original Schrödinger equation, namely we have ⟨ X", t"|X', t' ⟩ = W ( X", it"|X', it' ). The main advantage of this approach is to permit a systematic application to quantum-dynamical problems of the mathematical techniques developed in the theory of classical stochastic processes, even when vector potentials and/or time-dependent potentials are present.

Couplings to Classical and Non-Classical Squeezed White Noise as Stationary Markov Processes

Jürgen Hellmich, Reinhard Honegger, Claus Köstler +2 more

The squeezed white noise states of the quantum optics literature are identified with specific quasifree states on the bosonic C *-Weyl (resp. CCR) algebra, which are not gauge invariant. Their properties are discussed, and concrete realizations of their GNS-representations are given. The squeezed white noise states are obtained from the chaotic temperature (or white noise states) by the application of squeezing Bogoliubov transformations, which may lead to a noise reduction in selected modes. A squeezing strength is determined, below which the squeezed white noise states remain classical and above which they are rendered non-classical. We further couple additional systems to the squeezed white noise, the quantum character of which are leading to a large class of stationary quantum Markov processes with related quantum stochastic calculus. Their interactions are described in terms of unitary cocycles, which arise from adapted additive cocycles by means of solutions of stochastic differential equations resp. by stochastic Itô integrals. The restriction of the Markovian dynamics to the sub-system leads to a quantum semi-group, for which the Lindblad generator is of detailed balance type. Finally the stochastic Itô table for squeezed white noise is derived. From the latter non-classicality of the squeezed white noise process can now be checked by inspection.
