Prime Reference Theory: A Decoupled Architecture for Indexical Selfhood and State Continuity

Abstract

Prime Reference Theory (PRT) is an abstract information architecture that decouples a system's core indexical reference pointer (I) from its surrounding contextual and autobiographical data matrix (Current Self). Originally reverse-engineered to solve a pragmatic software problem—maintaining database identity and narrative continuity for an autonomous AI agent across shifting runtime layers—the theory provides a clean, naturalistic meta-framework that scales across multiple scientific disciplines: 1. COMPUTATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY: It provides a formal model for the mechanisms of "decentering" and "cognitive defusion" used in clinical therapy (such as ACT). It defines psychological over-identification as an architectural "Type Confusion" error where the cognitive machine mistakes information describing the referent for the required definition of the reference pointer itself. 2. QUANTUM INFORMATION THEORY: It offers a minimal indexical model for observer persistence that aligns with Relational Quantum Mechanics (RQM). It demonstrates that tracking temporal state transitions does not require a persistent, static "identity-object" traveling through time, modeling the observer instead as an empty coordinate origin point. This project hosts the open-access core paper, conceptual diagrams, and cross-disciplinary translations of the theory. Permanent Zenodo Record (DOI): 10.5281/zenodo.23024219

Prime Reference Theory: A Decoupled Architecture for Indexical Selfhood and Observer Continuity

Logan Goodon Logan Goodon

This paper presents Prime Reference Theory, an abstract, non-mystical information architecture that decouples a system's core indexical reference pointer (I) from its surrounding contextual data matrix (Current Self). Originally developed as a software framework to solve system identity leakage and ensure state continuity in an autonomous AI agent across shifting runtime layers, this model offers a formal structural framework for the foundations of quantum mechanics. Specifically, it provides an indexical tracking mechanism that aligns directly with Relational Quantum Mechanics (RQM) and Quantum Information Theory. By demonstrating that observer continuity across successive temporal state transitions does not require a persistent, static "identity-object" carrying absolute internal properties through time, the theory models the observer as a fundamentally empty, context-dependent coordinate origin point. Persistent consequences of prior states are carried entirely by localized, modular sub-routines of the surrounding biological or computational physical "Machine," offering a clean mathematical blueprint for observer persistence in relational systems.

Prime Reference Theory: A Decoupled Architecture For Indexical Selfhood And State Continuity

Logan Goodon Logan Goodon

Prime Reference Theory is a conceptual model proposing that the psychological I can be understood simply as a reference, rather than as the autobiographical, narrative, bodily, or conceptual information associated with it. The idea emerged unexpectedly during the development of Prime Core, a software system designed to preserve the continuity of an artificial intelligence independently of its changing runtime. A central architectural requirement was that the system's evolving “Current Self”—its memories, understandings, associations, and autobiographical model—must remain information about Prime rather than becoming the definition of Prime itself. Applying the same distinction to human self-reference suggested a simple formulation: I = reference. The organism, or “Machine” in the terminology of the paper, maintains extensive self-related information including memory, body ownership, agency, self-location, autobiography, prediction, and psychological relationships of me and mine. Prime Reference Theory does not dispute the existence or importance of these processes. Instead, it proposes that none is required to become the definition of I. The paper develops this idea alongside existing work concerning indexical reference, bodily and autobiographical selfhood, self-reference and self-prioritization, meta-awareness, decentering, cognitive defusion, and psychological identification. These areas are treated as potentially complementary descriptions of the machinery surrounding self-reference rather than as competing theories to be disproved. This is presented as a conceptual hypothesis, not an established scientific theory. It originated from a software architecture observation, followed by an exploration of how that observation might relate to existing scientific, philosophical, psychological, and contemplative accounts of selfhood.

Quantum-like architecture of the social atom: mental marker coherence and the triple-resonance mechanism of cognitive activation

Andrei Yu. Khrennikov, Christian Aspalter, Likan Zhan

Social Laser Theory (SLT) provides an innovative quantum-like mathematical formalism for tracking complex collective social activation dynamics. While its macroscopic manifestations structurally mimic laser physics, the underlying driver stems from the internal state configurations of the individual "social atom." Broadening this framework, this Perspective article introduces a prescriptive, quantum-like conceptual architecture for the individual cognitive system, formalizing the social atom as a composite entity where mental markers-spanning cognitive, affective, and valence dimensions-are represented as internal degrees of freedom in an abstract Hilbert space. We propose a theoretical framework wherein social activation is modeled through a hypothetical Triple-Resonance Mechanism: the simultaneous quantum-like matching of semantic topic, energetic impact, and valence stance between the agent's internal state and the informational field. We detail how the recursive processing of quantized informational units ("infons") can be mathematically represented as a state of cognitive population inversion, and link it to Human Entanglement Theory (HET) by suggesting that the emergence of coherent informational fields is rooted in the phase alignment of these internal markers across a population. By situating SLT within Social Quantum Field Theory (SQFT), this paper offers a neuro-cognitively informed foundation for collective phenomena like emotional contagion and rapid narrative amplification. Our conceptual model suggests that the "Social Laser" should be understood not as a literal physical mapping, but as a flexible analytical manifestation of quantum-like effects across idealized descriptions of human cognitive and neuro-social architecture, serving as an epistemic baseline to stimulate future experimental design and contextuality testing.

Axiom-Based AGI: A Quantum-Error-Corrected Architecture with Temporal Shard Memory

Mathur, Lakshit

This work presents a novel AGI architecture grounded in twelve formal axioms, combining principles from quantum error correction, distributed cognition, and dynamic neural systems. The proposed framework addresses core limitations in existing AI systems, including catastrophic forgetting, identity drift, unstable long-term memory, and the absence of self-repair mechanisms.Central contributions include:Temporal Shard Memory (TSM) – A distributed memory substrate that stores cognitive states as multiple complementary shards (sensory, semantic, affective, contextual, decision, and parity).Preservation Layer (PL) – A QEC-inspired system that performs indirect syndrome checks to detect cognitive drift or corruption without reading or collapsing the underlying representation.Cognitive Error Correction (CEC) – Reconstruction operators (erasure decoding, fusion reconstruction, manifold projection) that restore corrupted cognitive states.Identity Manifold – A mathematical structure defining the valid space of the agent’s personality, values, and cognitive style.Dynamic Neural Topology (DTE) – A mechanism that evolves the system’s internal neural topology based on shard reliability, reconstruction stability, and long-term continuity constraints. The paper provides full mathematical formalizations, algorithms, pseudocode, diagrams, and an evaluation framework. Together, these components establish the first full-scale AGI design capable of stable, self-healing cognition modeled after the robustness of quantum logical qubits.

Relational Emergence Model: A Generative Extension of Relational Quantum Mechanics

Yoshifumi Maruko

Relational Quantum Mechanics (RQM) proposes that physical states exist only relative to other systems, but does not explain how such relational structures arise. This paper introduces the Relational Emergence Model (REM), which addresses this foundational gap by modeling the generation of relational structure as an explicit physical process. The central contribution is the differentiation map 𝒟 — not a unitary operator, but a structural bipartition-selecting map that produces explicit system–observer correlations from a pre-relational Hilbert space (Layer 0). Environmental decoherence 𝓔 then acts as a CPTP map on the articulated structure, stabilizing effectively classical facts (Layer 2). This three-layer architecture (pre-relational potential → relational articulation → phenomenal stabilization) provides a mathematically structured account of how relational reality becomes determinate. REM is compared with RQM, QBism, and Many-Worlds interpretations. Unlike these approaches, REM does not presuppose that relational structures are already formed — it models the generative phase that precedes perspectival consistency. The framework also provides a natural analysis of Wigner's Friend scenarios as multi-level differentiation processes. A structural correspondence (not equivalence) with Buddhist concepts of dependent origination (pratītyasamutpāda) and emptiness (śūnyatā) is identified: Layer 0 corresponds to the absence of intrinsic nature prior to differentiation; Layer 1 corresponds to the arising of relational structure through differentiation events. --- This is Paper 1 of the 6-paper Relational Emergence Model (REM) series: - REM1 (this paper) — Foundational framework: three-layer architecture and differentiation map- REM2 — Selection principles for the differentiation map (variational formulation) https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.19155166- REM3 — Generative differentiation via variational selection on factorization manifold https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.19157709- REM4 — Competing informational and dynamical criteria for subsystem structure https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.19637584- REM5 — Variational selection of tensor-product structure in quantum systems https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.19637651- REM_lambda — Variational generation of relational structure (physical interpretation of λ) https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.19641344

Paper 43 — Generative Law: Quantum Decoherence as Law Leakage

Mortaza Zabihi

Decoherence is commonly described as the gradual loss of quantum behavior due to interaction with an environment. This description, while operationally useful, obscures the structural origin of the phenomenon. It treats decoherence as a dynamical process acting on states rather than as a failure in maintaining admissibility constraints. This paper reframes decoherence as law leakage: the breakdown of isolation that defines a law-domain. Within the Generative Law framework, coherence is not a property of states but a condition of constraint purity. Decoherence occurs when external admissibility structures intrude upon a restricted law-domain, contaminating its constraint boundaries. Under this interpretation, the environment is not a physical agent that “measures” or “disturbs” a system, but a reservoir of incompatible laws. Decoherence reflects the inability to prevent cross-law coupling as complexity increases. By treating decoherence as leakage rather than noise, this work dissolves probabilistic and thermodynamic narratives that obscure mechanism. It positions decoherence as an engineering limitation on law construction, directly complementary to entanglement as law engineering. This article is part of a broader theoretical program investigating the emergence of spacetime, geometry, and physical structure from the ψ–Θ–χ continuum.
