A Point-Coincident N-Mass Swarm as a Deterministic Toy Model for Electron Detection: A Variant of Zitterbewegung -Type Models

Abstract

We present a fully formulated variant of Zitterbewegung-type composite models in which the electron is modeled as N distinct mass-entities qi sharing a common spatial point xi(t) = xe(t) and a common de Broglie clock f0 = me c^2 / h. Unlike de Broglie's original single-clock hypothesis with a single wavelength lambda = h/p, we retain fi = f0 for all i but allow distinct masses mi = mj with ∑︁ mi = me. Consequently each sub-entity carries a different momentum pi = mi * ve and wavelength lambda_i = h / pi. Detection randomness is reduced to which qi delivers its momentum to the detector, while constant scintillation energy follows from conservation of f0. We discuss binding, Lorentz invariance, cooling, and open problems. To our knowledge this point-coincident multi-wavelength clock has not been formulated in this exact form.

A Unified Geometrical Interpretation of Zitterbewegung and de Broglie Matter Waves

Hidemi Munakata

Zitterbewegung and de Broglie matter waves are both phenomena associated with the quantum-mechanical properties of the electron, but they are usually discussed in different contexts. Zitterbewegung is understood as a rapid oscillatory motion appearing in the Dirac equation, whereas the de Broglie matter wave is understood as a wave corresponding to the linear momentum of a particle. Some previous studies have attempted to derive the de Broglie matter wave from an internal clock of the electron or from Zitterbewegung. In the present study, however, no causal relation in which the matter wave is generated by Zitterbewegung is assumed. Instead, the two are regarded as different geometrical representations of a common phase degree of freedom. Specifically, Zitterbewegung is interpreted as a phenomenon corresponding to an internal rotational degree of freedom, while the de Broglie matter wave is interpreted as spatial phase progression associated with linear momentum. and are interpreted, respectively, as the rates of phase progression in the temporal and spatial directions. Furthermore, using the relation introduced in previous work, and reinterpreting it as the ratio of the internal rotational velocity to the external propagation velocity, this study shows the possibility of describing internal rotation, translational motion, matter waves, and the fine-structure constant within a common phase geometry.

Zitterbewegung and the Electron

Arend Niehaus

Starting from a probabilistic model of the electron, which explains spin and spin measurements in terms of a probability density distribution resulting from a rapidly changing angular momentum during an extended Zitterbewegung EZBW, a “light-like” model of the electron and other spin-1/2 particles is formulated. This model describes individual particles in terms of paths of a moving quantum. It is shown that this description allows one to reproduce observable properties as path-averages over a period of the fast EZBW in elementary calculations. The general topology of the paths may be described as a helical path, with a helix axis forming a circle around a fixed point in space. The radius of the helix and of the circle is equal and given by half the reduced Compton wave length of a photon of energy equal to the rest energy of the particle described. The paths depend on the relative velocity between the described “entity” and the observer, and represent the De Broglie wave. The merits of the proposed model are summarized and its role in relation to the established description by quantum mechanics is discussed. It is concluded that it supports the existence of the proposed EZBW, and offers a description of quantum behavior without quantum mechanics.

Common Pedagogical Issues with De Broglie Waves: Moving Double Slits, Composite Mass, and Clock Synchronization

Robert L. Shuler

This paper addresses gaps identified in pedagogical studies of how misunderstanding of De Broglie waves affects later coursework and presents a heuristic for understanding the De Broglie frequency of composite. De Broglie’s little known derivation is reviewed with a new illustration based on his description. Simple techniques for reference frame independent analysis of a moving double slit electron interference experiment are not previously found in any literature and cement the concepts. Points of similarity and difference between De Broglie and Schrödinger waves are explained. The necessity of momentum, energy, and wavelength changes in the electrons in order for them to be vertically displaced in their own reference frame is shown to be required to make the double slit analysis work. A relativistic kinematic analysis of De Broglie frequency is provided showing how the higher De Broglie frequency of moving particles is consistent with Special Relativity and time dilation and that it demonstrates a natural system which obeys Einstein’s clock synchronization convention of simultaneity and no other. Students will be better prepared to identify practical approaches to solving problems and to think about fundamental questions.

Electron channeling, de Broglie's clock and the relativistic time operator

M. Bauer

Electron channeling in silicon crystals has brought forward the possibility of having detected a particle's "internal clock", as an intrinsic oscillation with de Broglie's frequency. The transmission probability along a major axial direction is reduced with respect to neighboring angles, except for a sharp peak at the atomic row direction. The pattern observed is a "W" instead of a "U". This central peak is attributed to a process known as "rosette motion", in which the crossing of successive atoms would be related to the de Broglie frequency. A classical multiple scattering calculation found that, to represent the experimental results, the interaction frequency had to be about twice the de Broglie's clock frequency; that is, the "Zitterbewegung" frequency. In the present paper, the observed characteristics of this process are shown to be consistent with a free particle quantum mechanical motion described by Dirac's Hamiltonian, albeit with an effective mass resulting from the interaction with the crystal atoms. The introduction of a self-adjoint dynamic time operator provides the connection with an internal "system time", the de Broglie clock.

The Ultimate Relativity: A Four-Postulate Framework Unifying Spacetime Ontology, Quantum Measurement, and Relativistic Charge

Bimal Chandra Dan

We present four postulates that together constitute a self-consistent ontological framework for physics, which we call The Ultimate Relativity. The framework proposes: (I) that all physical entities - mass, energy, charge - are restructurings of space itself (the Space Postulate); (II) that every particle is created together with a superluminal shadow/wave counterpart carrying opposite energy, momentum, and angular momentum, separated from the observable particle by the perceptual boundary at speed c (the Pair Postulate); (III) that a particle's existence is discrete - it appears and disappears with a characteristic "motional frequency" that is the physical origin of time (the Time Postulate); and (IV) that any detection event involves the simultaneous meeting of the particle and its shadow at the detector (the Measurement Postulate). We show that these four postulates are not in conflict with established physics but rather provide a deeper ontological foundation for it: the Space Postulate corresponds to Wheeler's spacetime foam and emergent-spacetime programmes; the Pair Postulate identifies the shadow with the de Broglie-Bohm pilot wave and naturally produces Zitterbewegung; the Time Postulate recovers the de Broglie internal clock relation nu_0=m_0c^2/h, confirmed experimentally; and the Measurement Postulate provides a concrete physical mechanism for the Born rule without invoking wavefunction collapse. We further show that the Pair Postulate implies a velocity-dependent rest charge for the electron - the central postulate of Dan's reformulation of electromagnetism - as a direct consequence. The framework therefore unifies the relativistic charge reformulation, the cosmic expansion mechanism, and the neutron magnetic moment derivation under a single coherent set of first principles.
