From Whole to Distinction: Physical Context and Pre-Alternative Articulation in a Whole-First Quantum Framework

Abstract

Whole Pattern, Local Event (WPLE) assigns ontological priority to the quantum Whole and treats localized particle-like manifestation as downstream from Whole-level quantum structure. Paper 3 developed relational resolution as the distinguishability of conditional states relative to physically relevant alternatives, while explicitly leaving the specification of those alternatives to the interaction structure and other physics of the modeled problem. The present paper moves one explanatory step earlier. It asks how a physically instantiated context carrying a resolving criterion can make a distinction articulable within an inclusive modeled domain before that distinction is represented as a predefined set of alternatives. A context may be modeled by a physical response channel M_c; operationally, the distinction structure relevant to that context can be characterized by the family of effects accessible through the response. Modeled states that agree on every response available through the context are context-indiscernible; states that differ on an accessible response are distinguishable relative to that context. The resulting structure is an effective context-relative response space. Mutually exclusive alternatives or sectors enter where additional physical structure - for example a classical output, commutative response algebra, orthogonal support, or justified coarse-graining - supports such a decomposition. Output distinguishability and post-processing then quantify how finely the context preserves response-relevant differences. A continuous probe-coupling model shows how a physically realized sensitivity profile can induce context-relative articulation without first writing a discrete A/B decomposition, while retaining the coordinate, probe, and coupling structure supplied by the model. Paper 3's conditional-state overlap, coherence-distinguishability, and local-registration mathematics applies downstream once suitable alternatives are physically warranted. Recent work on observable-relative indiscernibility, restricted operational access, quantum reference frames, decoherence-selected observables, perspectival basis selection, quantum mereology, and reconstructive interpretation provides close mathematical and conceptual neighbors. WPLE's distinctive proposal is the Whole-first explanatory genealogy from physically embodied criterion to context-relative articulation, then to effective alternatives where warranted, relational resolution, and local manifestation.

Cross-Context Articulation: Multiple Lawful Distinction Structures in a Whole-First Quantum Framework

Brahmar Chaganty, Hemal Jariwala

Whole Pattern, Local Event (WPLE) assigns explanatory and ontological priority to the quantum Whole and treats distinctions, effective alternatives, and localized manifestations as physically articulated within it. Paper 7 developed the single-context problem: a physically realized access structure carries a criterion, induces context-relative indiscernibility, and makes selected differences articulable before a discrete set of alternatives is imposed. The present paper develops the cross-context problem. A common modeled domain can support more than one physically lawful articulation structure when different realized contexts preserve different differences in their responses. For a family of physically realizable contexts C_phys(D), each context c induces a response map M_c, an indiscernibility relation ~_c, and an effective response space S(D)/~_c. The family of these structures is called an articulation atlas. Contexts may stand in post-processing relations that define a preorder on contexts and a partial order on post-processing equivalence classes, or remain operationally incomparable. Distinctions that recur across multiple access structures acquire cross-context stability, while primitive ontological status remains an additional claim requiring further grounds. Formal and experimental precedents provide distinct forms of support: which-way correlations can determine the availability of path information; parity measurements can resolve a shared relational property while preserving coherence inside parity sectors; GHZ reduced-state results show that a multipartite distinction need not be recoverable from proper-subsystem reduced states; and operationally accessible interactions and measurements can help determine effective subsystem structure. Synthetic frequency dimensions and dimension witnesses provide neighboring examples of engineered and operationally certified structure. These access-based examples show how structural distinctions can become physically available or experimentally ascertainable. The Kochen-Specker theorem supplies a complementary no-go constraint: under its stated assumptions, compatible measurement contexts cannot be represented by one global noncontextual definite-value assignment. WPLE organizes these different results within a Whole-first cross-context thesis: one quantum Whole may support multiple lawful articulations, and the success of any one articulation establishes its physical effectiveness under the conditions that sustain it.

From Wave Character to Local Registration: Relational Resolution in a Whole-First Quantum Framework

Brahmar Chaganty, Hemal Jariwala

Whole Pattern, Local Event (WPLE) assigns ontological priority to the quantum Whole, treats wave-character as intrinsic to Whole-level quantum structure, and locates particle-like localization at local physical manifestation. This paper develops the downstream question of how Whole-level wave structure can support increasingly resolved distinctions and, under additional conditions of local embodiment and stability, registrations or records. Relational resolution is defined as the distinguishability of conditional states relative to physically relevant alternatives. The mathematical ingredients are established: classical and quantum coherence, conditional-state overlaps, trace distance, complementarity relations, resource-theoretic coherence-distinguishability bounds, decoherence, pointer-state selection, and record formation. A worked two-site localized-detector model explicitly traces an initial Whole-level state through conditional coupling, increasing relational resolution, localized detector excitation, and a schematic environmental stabilization/record-robustness stage. The unitary model establishes locally embodied, registration-capable conditional structure; it does not select one unique actual event. The contribution is a Whole-first organization of established structure: local manifestation and record formation are treated as downstream developments of Whole-level wave structure rather than as consequences of a primitive continuously localized corpuscle.

Articulation and Persistence: A Conceptual Closure in the Whole Pattern, Local Event Framework

Brahmar Chaganty, Hemal Jariwala

Whole Pattern, Local Event (WPLE) gives explanatory priority to the Whole and treats particle-like localization as a local physical manifestation within that Whole. Paper 1 established that the localized form of an event does not, by itself, warrant projecting a continuously localized corpuscle backward through the prior quantum process. Paper 7 then examined how criterion-bearing physical context makes distinctions articulable before predefined alternatives are assumed, and Paper 3 described how physically warranted alternatives can become relationally resolved and locally embodied. The present note completes that line of thought by separating articulation from persistence. A local articulation is real through the physical relation in which a distinction becomes effective. Persistence, where physically present, is an additional property of the organization that sustains that articulation across further relations. This distinction extends WPLE’s anti-reification discipline forward as well as backward: local reality is established at articulation, while object-like continuity requires its own physical support. Durable detector records form a downstream case of persistence. Once a local manifestation is incorporated into a stable apparatus-environment configuration, the existing WPLE Technical Note and established physics of amplification, decoherence, detector dynamics, materials, and nonequilibrium thermodynamics provide the relevant account. The resulting WPLE ordering therefore distinguishes local reality from later persistence while keeping both within one Whole-first framework.

Whole Pattern, Local Event: A Whole-First Ontological Ordering of Wave and Particle in Quantum Theory

Brahmar Chaganty, Hemal Jariwala

Quantum theory is commonly narrated by beginning with objects already called photons, electrons, atoms, or molecules and then asking why those objects display wave-like behavior. Whole Pattern, Local Event (WPLE) reverses that explanatory order. Its ontological principle assigns priority to the Whole: the most fundamental quantum reality is not taken to be an assembly of independently localized corpuscles. The term wave names the Whole's intrinsic wave-like, non-corpuscular quantum character - expressed in quantum theory through phase-sensitive amplitudes, coherence, superposition, and nonseparability - without identifying the Whole with an ordinary oscillation in three-dimensional space or with any single wavefunction. In WPLE, particle-like localization manifests in local physical events such as detector transitions, ionizations, clicks, and other localized registrations. The localized morphology of such an event is not projected backward into a continuously localized corpuscular history unless independent physics warrants that description. Particle species, quantum numbers, and effective particle persistence remain intact. Standard quantum mechanics is compatible with this ordering but does not deductively establish it. The positive case for Whole-priority is abductive: nonseparability makes whole-state structure irreducible in important cases; the standard formalism does not require primitive corpuscular trajectories; localized events are nevertheless ubiquitous; and Whole-first ordering treats interference, entanglement, and localized registration without assigning rival wave and particle substances to one pre-given microscopic object. The paper distinguishes this proposal from Bohr, Everett, Bohm and Hiley, priority monism, relational quantum mechanics, Haag and Pashby, GRW flash ontology, decoherence, wave-function realism, and recent work by Goyal. WPLE does not introduce a new outcome-selection dynamics. Its central principle is compact: Whole (wave-like coherent/nonseparable quantum structure) + local interaction -> localized event (particle-like manifestation).

From Local Registration to Physical Record: Thermodynamic Robustness in a Whole-First Quantum Framework

Brahmar Chaganty, Hemal Jariwala

This technical note places the downstream transition from local registration to durable physical record within the Whole Pattern, Local Event (WPLE) framework. Papers 1, 7, and 3 order the analysis through Whole-priority, physically grounded articulation, relational resolution, and local registration. The present note takes the next physical step: how a registered result acquires stability, durability, and fact-like accessibility within the enlarged apparatus-environment configuration. Established work on decoherence, environmental records, pointer robustness, measurement thermodynamics, and irreversible detection provides the relevant mechanisms. The central claim is that the durability and fact-like character of a registered result can belong to the macroscopic record and its thermodynamic embedding rather than to a continuously localized microscopic bearer. In this way, WPLE local registration connects directly to established physics of record formation and effective irreversibility.

Unity in Motion: Distinction, Resolution, and the Articulation of Reality with a Singlet-State Theorem and Bell Correlations

Eric Needham

This record presents a new foundational theory of unity, distinction, and closure, together with a deliberately restricted technical companion. The two manuscripts are complementary and are intended to be read in tandem. The primary manuscript, Unity in Motion: Distinction, Resolution, and the Articulation of a Whole, develops the full theoretical proposal. Its primitive claim is that Unity is the condition of reality itself, rather than a property belonging only to particular physical systems. Distinction, change, multiplicity, motion, and separation are therefore treated as internal articulations of Unity rather than departures from it. In this framework, distinction determines what becomes consequential and therefore admissible, while Unity simultaneously resolves and contains that distinction. Closure is understood as the complete resolution of articulation within the whole. The paper develops this idea across several mathematical realizations already established within the ENSO programme: conserved distinction, reciprocal counter-motion, invariant quadratic closure, complex phase, Schrödinger norm preservation, Born resolution, and finally entanglement. These are not proposed as different kinds of unity. They are distinct mathematical contexts in which the same underlying question can be asked: how can real distinction and change occur without requiring ontological fragmentation of the whole? The second manuscript, Unity as the Composite: Exchange-Resolved Distinction, the Singlet State, and Bell Correlations, is supplied as a deliberately restricted technical companion. It suspends the wider ontological proposal and asks what can be established within a tightly specified bi-binary quantum representation The distinction between the two presentations is intentional. Unity in Motion is, in the author’s view, the best representation of the meaning and scope of the theory. Unity as the Composite isolates the principal theorem-level quantum result while minimizing ontological commitment. The technical companion should therefore not be read as replacing, reducing, or delimiting the full theory; conversely, the wider ontological proposal should not be mistaken for something proved solely by the singlet theorem. Publishing both versions makes the epistemic boundary explicit: one manuscript states the proposed theory in full; the other identifies a precise mathematical consequence that can presently be derived under declared assumptions. Their conjunction is intended to preserve both conceptual meaning and scientific auditability. The accompanying archive packages contain the manuscript sources, computational validator, README documentation, and reproducibility materials. The validator checks the algebraic singlet construction, exchange symmetry, correlation tensor, Born joint probabilities, no-signalling marginals, CHSH value, and hostile controls. It is a consistency check of the mathematical construction and is not presented as proof of the universal ontological premise. The earlier Unity Paper (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.19481116) explicitly frames distinction as Unity's first internal articulation rather than the assembly of prior separated objects.
