Abstract

This paper introduces a novel Quantum Bayesian Network (QBN) architecture specifically designed for Constraint Satisfaction problems (CSPs). We propose a QBN leveraging quantum annealing or variational quantum algorithms to efficiently explore solution spaces, enabling the handling of highly complex, multi-variable CSPs. The core mechanism involves dynamically updating constraint relationships through quantum superposition, offering a potential paradigm shift in solving these challenging problems. We demonstrate the efficacy of our approach through a case study focusing on a simplified CSP, highlighting its ability to outperform traditional methods in terms of solution finding time and complexity. Furthermore, we discuss the challenges and potential future directions of this research.

Quantum-Inspired Quantum Annealing for Constraint Satisfaction Problems

Jincheng Zhang

Constraint Satisfaction Problems (CSPs) represent a significant class of computational challenges found across diverse fields, including artificial intelligence, operations research, and computer science. Traditional approaches to solving CSPs often struggle with scalability and efficiency, particularly when dealing with complex, high-dimensional problems. This paper proposes a novel approach to CSP solving leveraging principles inspired by quantum annealing, specifically focusing on mimicking quantum tunneling and superposition. We introduce a quantum-inspired annealing architecture designed to efficiently explore solution spaces. The core idea is to translate the underlying probabilistic nature of quantum tunneling into a deterministic annealing process, providing a more effective mechanism for escaping local minima compared to conventional simulated annealing. The proposed architecture incorporates a modified spin model and a tailored annealing schedule to optimize the exploration process. We demonstrate the potential of this approach through theoretical analysis and a conceptual framework, illustrating its capacity to address complex CSPs more effectively. The primary contribution lies in the shift from solely simulating quantum phenomena to actively incorporating core quantum mechanical concepts within an annealing framework, offering a potentially more powerful and scalable solution to CSPs.
