Abstract

Constraint satisfaction problems (CSPs) are ubiquitous in various domains, including artificial intelligence, circuit design, and scheduling. Traditional CSP solvers often struggle with problems exhibiting high dimensionality and complex constraints, leading to exponential time complexity in the worst case. This paper proposes a novel approach to CSP solving that draws inspiration from quantum mechanics, specifically superposition and entanglement, through the utilization of tensor networks and quantum-inspired algorithms. We represent CSP variables and constraints using tensor networks, allowing for efficient storage and manipulation of complex relationships. Furthermore, we employ quantum walks, a quantum-inspired search algorithm, to perform constraint propagation and explore the solution space. This approach aims to achieve significant performance gains by effectively exploiting the inherent parallelism and exploration capabilities associated with quantum phenomena. The core claim is that these quantum-inspired techniques can efficiently explore the solution space of CSPs, particularly those with high dimensionality. The mechanism involves tensor network representation and quantum walk-based search. The effectiveness of this method is demonstrated through theoretical analysis and a conceptual framework, paving the way for future research and development in applying quantum-inspired methods to classical problem-solving.

Quantum-Inspired Constraint Satisfaction via Superoperator Algebra

Jincheng Zhang

This paper introduces a novel approach to constraint satisfaction problems (CSPs) by drawing inspiration from quantum superoperator algebra. Traditional CSP solvers often struggle with exponentially growing complexity, particularly when dealing with intricate constraints. Our method proposes representing constraints as quantum superoperators that operate on variable states. This allows us to exploit the concepts of superposition and interference, which are fundamental to quantum mechanics, to explore the solution space more efficiently. The core idea is to treat the problem of satisfying constraints as a quantum computation, rather than a purely classical one. We define a mathematical framework based on superoperator algebra and illustrate its application to a range of CSP instances. The proposed method offers a potentially significant improvement over classical CSP algorithms, particularly for problems exhibiting exponential growth in complexity. We provide a detailed description of the theoretical underpinnings, a formal mathematical model, and a conceptual outline of the algorithm. The key contributions lie in the direct translation of quantum principles into a computational paradigm for solving CSPs and the potential for achieving scalability in handling complex constraint networks.
