Hugh Everett letter to Aage Petersen, June-1956
Hugh Everett
Abstract
Aage Petersen was Niels Bohr's personal assistant. Along with Bohr, Petersen spent the fall of 1954 in Princeton and he and Everett became friends. As someone close to both Everett and to Bohr, Petersen was one of Everett's principal correspondents concerning the relationship between his work and the Copenhagen interpretation. Since he considered Petersen a friend, Everett was often more informal and frank about his appraisals of the Copenhagen response to his thesis in correspondence with Petersen than with other Bohr acolytes. In this letter, for instance, Everett is explicit that he does not believe the Copenhagen physicists have understood his proposal and he encourages Petersen to re-read his thesis more carefully.
