On Deriving the Born Rule for a Geometric Block Universe

Abstract

In a non-splitting Geometric Block Universe, every compatible history and observer-record instance is realised. The Born rule therefore cannot select which history becomes actual; the remaining question is which measure governs record-relative observer incidence. Let X = S³ be the connected compact record carrier with normalised volume measure ν, and let F be a nonzero positive continuous linear functional on C(X). If F is invariant under the full heat-resolution semigroup Hs = exp(−sΔ), then the Riesz-Markov measure representing F is stationary under heat flow. Heat smoothing makes that measure smooth, stationarity makes its density harmonic, and connectedness makes the density constant. Thus F(f) = κ∫X f dν. For a normalised physical density ρ and record cell Ar, normalised incidence is consequently the integral of ρ over Ar, the inherited geometric weight qr. The theorem extends directly to every finite product carrier XN; product states then give the finite-N Born product law without assuming a tensor-product incidence functional. An exact all-K commutant proposition supplies finite-capacity corroboration. The derivation is conditional: the inherited density, full-carrier resolution invariance, and the identification of normalised incidence with first-person probability are not derived here from the GBU action. What is proved is that, once those premises are stated, no singular or nonuniform positive linear incidence measure survives.

The Born Rule from Counting

JONATHAN CHARLES DOWNES

The Geometric Block Universe is a single completed geometric structure - a compact curved space carrying fields - in which every history compatible with the laws is present, together with the records that observers hold within it. Nothing in the block evolves. What an observer calls time is a relational ordering of records by internal coordinates, with a geometric direction, the logarithm of total volume, serving as the clock; where that clock stalls, a second clock built from accumulated volume carries the ordering through. Records are stable, mutually exclusive cells of a finite record space, the harmonics of low degree on a three-sphere, and an observer is a body that writes and reads such records. Three things that ordinary quantum mechanics must postulate are absent from this picture. There is no collapse: a measurement selects nothing, because every compatible outcome is already realised and a definite result is definite only relative to the observer's own record. There is no splitting of universes: the histories are labelled components of one structure, the number of them is not a primitive quantity, and nothing multiplies when a record is written. And there is no fundamental probability: the block contains only counts of qualified observer occurrences, and what an observer experiences as chance is self-location - the fraction of its own occurrences that carry a given record. Probability is an emergent appearance, not an ingredient. This paper shows that the quantum weights follow from counting. An earlier rigidity theorem of the programme showed that a positive linear incidence functional invariant under full-carrier heat resolution is proportional to volume, so that normalised incidence equals an inherited geometric density; the Born form of that density was an input, and this paper removes it. Three statements about counting- that the count of occurrences in a set of record points is the integral of a density depending on the amplitude at the point, that one attempt counts one, and that a non-interacting reader's counts cannot depend on a distant preparation, force the density to be the squared amplitude, with presence, unit counting, affinity and Born proportions for every sharp reader as consequences rather than assumptions. The Born weight is the conserved charge of the phase symmetry of each record, exact for the recorder the theory already contains, and its push-forward over states is the uniform reference distribution that earlier readers haad to be given by hand. The affine structure that makes counts quadratic is not free either: it is the positive first-order structure of the clock direction, derived for a clock that is a symmetry, and it survives the de Sitter trajectory the geometry selects with a bounce mixing 1/sinh²(πν) that is the same for every record mode. The recorder is realised on the canonical records of the five-rung carrier as a complete observer: it writes exactly distinguishable records at discrete pointer displacements, samples its pointer at the rate set by the evaluation overlap spectrum, and returns the branch weight with no threshold, no reference population and no preparation law; where the two records are not exactly distinguishable, the deviation from Born proportions is bounded and second order in their overlap. What remains assumed is stated once: that counting is local on the record manifold, that an attempt counts one, the selection of the record space, the standing of the recorder, and the identification of occurrence fraction with first-person credence. An unconditional derivation is not claimed. One consequence differs from quantum mechanics with continuous pointers and is recorded as a candidate signature: a recorded two-branch superposition decoheres, as a function of the write duration, with exact nulls, a partial revival of 21/91 at half the pointer period, full recurrence when the fibre closes, and a residual average coherence of 9/91.

Probability as Geometry: Viewpoint Multiplicity, Typicality, and the Confirmation of the Born Rule in a Block of Histories

JONATHAN CHARLES DOWNES

Papers 1-2 of this series derived Born weights conditionally from the block’s Riemannian geometry: the canonical volume determines the Hilbert structure, the induced projective geometry determines the ray measure, and Gleason noncontextuality fixes the trace assignment. What remained was the confirmation problem: in a block ontology every compatible history and every compatible observer-instance exists, so probability must be a measure over realised record-relative viewpoints, not a chance of becoming actual. This paper builds the record-theoretic and statistical structure that closes that gap, up to two explicitly priced commitments. The central claim, calibrated. In a non-splitting block ontology, perfect record cells inherit the Born measure and its exact conditional calculus. Under a persistent-prefix distinguishability condition (Assumption PF, stated prominently), interference remains uniformly controlled through arbitrarily deep finite record refinements. The resulting static record filtration obeys martingale concentration without independence assumptions, and — conditional on the explicitly priced viewpoint-typicality principle (Commitment TY) — Born conditional probabilities are exponentially confirmed against persistently different rival policies, including adaptive history-dependent rivals. The supporting structure: an exact perfect-record projector calculus; a closed sequential interference bound whose index is refinement depth, not flowing time; an explicit block-compatible recorder family (translated Gaussian fragments, and intrinsically, normalised heat-kernel packets on the block’s own S3) for which the record-overlap exponents and minimum redundancy thresholds are derived in closed form — the recorder family itself is not yet derived from block dynamics; and a canonical Gram-polar construction that associates to any imperfect record family, at each fixed depth, an exact Boolean hierarchy of projectors within explicitly bounded distance of the raw records — a finite-depth canonical Booleanisation, with cross-depth projective consistency an open problem. The coherent event weight Q is used only comparatively: it is not an additive probability measure for imperfect records, and the paper states the resulting trade-off explicitly. Two commitments carry the non-mathematical load and are priced, not hidden. Commitment OL: observer continuity is represented by record-functional equivalence across compatible continuations. Commitment TY: rational expectation over the record-equivalent continuations follows the canonical conditional measure. Given TY, the block-derived Born measure is internally self-confirming on record-typical viewpoints; without it, the mathematics fixes the measure but not its first-person authority. No collapse, branch creation, privileged actuality, pointer-basis selection, or theory of consciousness is used. Finite-resolution results on the block’s S3 truncation ladder (exact spectral-leakage identities, a conditional Sobolev rate, the Gleason dimension threshold) are collected in Appendix B.

Geometric Block Universe

JONATHAN CHARLES DOWNES

We present the Geometric Block Universe (GBU), a framework in which the universe is a single static geometric structure and the probabilistic content of quantum mechanics is derived from that geometry rather than postulated. The central technical task is to obtain the Born rule as a theorem of Riemannian spectral geometry. At the quantum level of description the block is modelled by a compact Riemannian manifold B. The Riemannian volume measure is the natural density on B, and it forces the L2 inner product; the physical states are selected by a Dirichlet variational principle, which we prove to be the unique admissible choice among natural functionals of the appropriate degree under two explicitly stated and minimal hypotheses, in every dimension n ≥ 2. Under these hypotheses the Born rule is not assumed: it follows as a geometric theorem, the squared L2 overlap of states forced by the naturality of the volume measure together with Gleason's theorem [5] applied after holographic truncation. Quantum states are identified with Laplace-Beltrami eigenfunctions, the spectral modes of the metric Laplacian on B. The framework is a no-collapse one, and its ontology is block-universe realist: what is ontic is the geometry, while the state ψ is an indexical description of the transition amplitudes available to an observer from its current block. Nothing collapses and nothing splits; there is a fixed structure and observers who traverse it, and what appears within a traversal as a measurement event is a feature of how a path sits in the block rather than a process the structure undergoes. This places GBU in the no-collapse family, while departing from it ontologically, replacing dynamically generated branches with pre-existing geodesic paths. The holographic bound truncates the spectrum to a finite physical subspace, suggesting a finite-mode regularisation of ultraviolet divergences, with recovery of low-energy quantum field theory deferred to Paper 3. Temporal asymmetry is derived as an observer-selection effect on record-accumulating geodesics rather than a fundamental feature of the geometry. The constants c, ℏ and G are identified as geometric conversion factors between levels of the block structure. We demonstrate the framework on an explicit two-sphere calculation, and outline a five-paper programme. Throughout, the paper is explicit about the boundary between what is proven (the conditional Born-rule theorem), what is a route with a verified proof-of-concept (the dynamics), and what remains conjectural (the origin of the two-level structure, and the constants).

The Born Ledger: Record Weighting from Finite History Amplitudes

Adam Alexander Dick

This paper is Paper 003 in the Anaxiomatic Mechanics / pq-Spacetime stack. It develops the Born Ledger: the probability scalarization of Binary Mechanics. Paper 002 derived finite polarized graph histories and the primitive finite amplitude law. In that construction, amplitudes are not assigned to instantaneous graph states, vertices, or hidden local phase registers. Instead, they arise as finite sums of Z4-weighted admissible histories grouped into coarse record classes. The present paper begins from that result and asks what probability ledger is forced once record-disjoint coarse alternatives are required to receive stable nonnegative weights. The central result is a no-fence scalarization theorem: the only admissible nonnegative scalarization of a finite complex record amplitude is its squared modulus. When normalized over an exhaustive record-disjoint partition, this yields the Born-type probability rule. The derivation does not assume Hilbert space, a wavefunction, a measurement postulate, a continuum path integral, primitive probability, or primitive branch selection. Interference appears before probability as cancellation inside finite history amplitudes, and probability appears only as the record-level scalarization of those amplitudes. No fine history is primitively deleted or selected; the ledger assigns weights to record-disjoint coarse alternatives generated from the full admissible finite history structure. The paper therefore supplies the Born-weighting step in the Binary Mechanics construction: finite graph histories first, finite amplitudes second, record ledgers third, normalized probabilities last.

Quantum Records, Definite Outcomes, and the Born Rule from Finite Accessibility - The Measurement Completion of the Operational Framework

Paul Cooney

Papers I and II derived gravitational geometry and second-order dynamics from finite accessibility without invoking measurement, observation protocols, or collapse as primitive notions. This paper extends the operational program to the measurement sector, deriving the structure of record formation and probabilistic weights from the same finite accessibility and compositional constraints. Finite accessibility restricts admissible operations on a subsystem to a proper operator subalgebra. Because bounded certification excludes operators requiring nonlocal coordination or arbitrarily fine phase resolution, the accessible algebra is strictly smaller than the full operator algebra. When a system becomes correlated with orthogonal environment sectors, off-diagonal operators between those sectors fall outside the accessible algebra. The reduced state is therefore indistinguishable, under all admissible operations, from its diagonal ensemble. Definiteness emerges as an algebraic consequence of sector restriction, not as a collapse postulate. The weights of these sectors are fixed uniquely by compositional consistency. Phase invariance, multiplicativity under independent refinement, and stability under record coarse-graining constrain any admissible assignment of sector weights to satisfy a functional equation whose only continuous, non-contextual solution is quadratic in amplitude. The Born rule therefore arises as the unique invariant measure compatible with finite accessibility. Irreversibility follows from action scaling: reversal requires operators outside the admissible tensor algebra and incurs action cost proportional to the number of correlated subsystems. Since admissible operations are bounded by the action gap, macroscopic record reversal is excluded. Measurement introduces no new physical primitives beyond finite accessibility, locality, and compositional stability. Record formation, classical definiteness, and Born probabilities are structural consequences of algebraic restriction under finite accessibility. **This paper is part of the Finite Accessibility series, which reconstructs gravitational geometry, quantum dynamics, gauge structure, cosmological perturbation theory, and the dark sector from a single operational primitive: a finite certification ceiling ω* governing the maximum rate at which physical relations can be maintained across extended domains.** **Introductory papers** - Geometric Limits to Coherent Timekeeping in Extended Reference Frames — https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18824556 - Accessibility Selection Law (ASL) — https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18824649 - Phase Boundary Gravity — https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18824707 **Pillars (numbered I–IV)** - Paper I: Deriving Gravitational Geometry and Schrödinger Dynamics from Finite Accessibility — https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18601600 - Paper II: Deriving Inertia, Motion, and Wave Propagation from Finite Accessibility — https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18625174 - Paper III: Accessible State Spaces, Record Stability, and the Emergence of Quantum Statistics — https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18625192 - Paper IV: Frame Dissolution, the Certification Ceiling, and Observable Deformations — https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18654458 **Extension papers** - Dark Matter from Finite Accessibility — https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18654433 - Dark Energy from Finite Accessibility — https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18654523 - No-Go Theorems and the Admissibility Corridor — https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18654493 - Gauge Structure from Finite Accessibility — https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18928152 - Perturbation Theory from Finite Accessibility — https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18928213 **Experimental paper** - Experimental Probes of Finite Accessibility: GW Dispersion and Vacuum Path Independence — https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18931126 **Keywords:** Born rule derivation, measurement problem, quantum statistics, finite accessibility, operator subalgebra, record formation, definiteness emergence, wave function collapse, compositional consistency, accessible state spaces, action gap, irreversibility, sector restriction, quantum foundations, algebraic quantum mechanics, decoherence

Structural Origin of the Born Rule in the Theory of Structural Articulation

Aleksandr Nett

The Born rule connects squared amplitudes with the frequencies of recorded outcomes. This preprint constructs that connection through two explicit mechanisms: the square is a lattice index; probability is a fixation share. Complex multiplication on a lattice of rank two produces a contact layer whose cardinality equals the squared modulus of the register content. Loading one unit at each contact turns this arithmetic count into conserved mass. Fair transfers redistribute the units until a single contact survives. A bounded-martingale argument then gives each contact a winning probability equal to its initial share. Within the specified interaction class, the resulting Born law is exact, holds from every initial clock address, and is independent of the encounter schedule, provided fairness and completion are maintained. Polarization of the contact count also recovers the Hermitian geometry of the register. A single object, harmonic mass, connects the outcome law to the arrow of fixation. Its normalized coordinates give the conditional probabilities of future records, while its positive support can only shrink: an excluded alternative cannot return during the same run. The paper develops finite certificates for this structure, including sectorwise balance and a characterization of robustness under causal changes of the interaction parameter. Protected block outputs yield the sequential Born–Lüders law. Rational generalized measurements admit exact integer dilations and use the same fixation mechanism. Quantitative continuity gives a unique extension to arbitrary finite-dimensional states and measurements; controlled truncations extend the probability law to normal states on separable Hilbert spaces, including continuous spectra. The construction also makes the resources of recording calculable. Exact transfer costs, bounds on deviations from the Born law, retention times, and slow recording-error dynamics are derived. A temporal certificate reconstructs contact masses from activity measurements independently of winner frequencies. Developed within the Theory of Structural Articulation, the paper provides a complete finite event-source realization and a criterion for transferring its law to other physical carriers. Application to a particular recording process requires independent verification of contact loading, interaction balance, completion, and protection of the recorded block.
