Secure fiber-optic communication system based on Internet-accessible multipath transmission of ciphertext fragments

Ya Jin, Yichao Qi, Yinfang Chen +3 more

A secure fiber-optic communication system based on Internet-accessible multipath transmission of ciphertext fragment (MTCF) technology is proposed and demonstrated in this paper. By performing algorithm encryption on the transmitted data before randomly assigning them to multiple channels corresponding to different wavelengths or Internet protocols (IPs), the secure and long-distance transmission can be realized. A field trial experiment over 125 km between Beijing and Xiongan has been successfully undertaken, and the results show that the maximum throughput can reach 60 Mb/s, which demonstrates the feasibility of the scheme. We also established a theoretical model to analyze the security performance of the proposed system. As far as we know, this is the first time that MTCF, an optical physical layer and application layer integrated security technology, has been enjoyed the capacity to access the public network, which provides an exciting opportunity to advance our knowledge of long-distance secure communication.

Secure optical communication system based on polarization regulation of the data fragmentation multipath transmission technology

Kun Peng Zhai, Xin Yan Zhang, Sha Zhu +3 more

We propose and demonstrate a data fragment multipath transmission scheme to achieve a secure optical communication based on polarization regulation. A dual-polarization Mach–Zehnder modulator (DPMZM) is driven by digital signals which are scattered by field-programmable gate array (FPGA) and transmitted in multiple paths. By utilizing two orthogonal polarization states, we have achieved a signal transmission under different optical parameters, and the transmission rate of the two paths can reach over 10 Gbps through a 20 km fiber with 2.5 Gbps hopping rate. In addition, we establish a theoretical model to analyze the security of the system and simulate brute force cracking; the probability of cracking the minimum information unit is 1.53 × 10−53. This proves that it is difficult to obtain a user data even using the fastest computers. Our scheme has provided, to our knowledge, a new approach for physical layer security.

Mable P. Fok, Paul R. Prucnal

All-optical encryption and anti-jamming have been experimentally demonstrated in an optical CDMA system using four-wave mixing in a 32-cm highly-nonlinear bismuth-oxide fiber. The scheme provides a high-speed, compact, and low latency approach for network security.

Multichannel quantum system of fiber-optics secure communication

О. К. Барановский, Иван Романович Гулаков, Евгений Викторович Василиу +2 more

The method and the scheme of multichannel quantum system of secure communication for transfer of confidential data on optical fiber are developed. The considered scheme combines quantum key distribution with quantum secure data transmission. Such approach does not give possibility to the eavesdropper to decipher that part of information, which he can receive before the detection. The suggested scheme provides higher security level of transferred confidential information, than known, which use traditional pro-tocols of symmetric enciphering in a combination to quantum key distribution. It is found out that for the transmission protected in such a way on optical fiber the choice of wavelengths of 850 and 1625 nanometers is optimum. It is found out that when using in such systems of the avalanche photo diode FD-115L it is possible to provide a speed of information transfer up to 0,8 Mbps in one channel. For increase in speed of transfer, it is proposed to use two and more channels of transfer.
