Beyond Occupancy: Transition Accessibility in Critical Systems

Jamie Morris

This work introduces a complementary framework for analyzing critical transitions through transition accessibility rather than occupancy statistics alone. Using the two-dimensional Ising model as a test system, the study defines constraint density as a normalized measure of local transition entropy, quantifying the rigidity or flexibility of a system’s accessible transformation structure. Rather than proposing new physics or a new universality class, the framework explores whether accessibility-sensitive observables exhibit distinct restructuring morphology near standard critical transitions. Preliminary finite-size analyses suggest broader restructuring envelopes, extended response behavior, and distinct integrated susceptibility characteristics compared with canonical occupancy-sensitive observables. The work is exploratory and emphasizes observable restructuring topology rather than modifications to underlying dynamics. Potential applications include finite, noisy, or operationally constrained systems where broad restructuring behavior may be more informative than sharply localized critical coordinates.

Correlation Ceilings and Thermal Cliffs: A Structural Diagnostic of Phase Transitions

Takayuki Takagi

We propose a structural diagnostic for thermal phase transitions based on the product of two correlation-derived quantities: the nearest-neighbor mutual information I_nn and the magnetic susceptibility χ. Key Result The thermal cliff diagnostic: κ_T = Ĩ_nn × χ̃ exhibits a sharp peak (cliff) near the critical temperature in systems possessing genuine phase transitions. Stochastic-geometrical analysis to investigate critical behavior for statistical-mechanical models

This work is based on the paper [49].In Chapter 4, we will introduce the quantum Ising model, especially focusing on the graphical representations of it.By using the Suzuki-Trotter transformation and a graphical representation based on the classical Ising model, we will analyze the susceptibility of the quantum Ising model. This is an ongoing work with Kamijima and Sakai and based on the preprint [50].
