Secrecy analysis of unauthenticated amplify-and-forward relaying with antenna selection

Jing Huang, Amitav Mukherjee, Arnold Lee Swindlehurst

We investigate the secrecy outage performance for a cooperative unauthenticated relay network where antenna selection is employed at the multi-antenna relay. Both traditional amplify-and-forward (AF) relaying and a cooperative jamming (CJ) protocol are studied. We characterize the exact secrecy outage probability (SOP) for the AF scheme, and analyze the asymptotic behaviour in terms of SOP for the CJ scheme. Although both the unauthenticated relay and the destination perceive diversity gain from antenna selection, we show that as the number of antennas grows, the SOP approaches one for AF, while it approaches zero for CJ. For a fixed number of antennas, we demonstrate that the CJ scheme is better than AF relaying for high SNR, and its SOP approaches zero when the SNR goes to infinity. The theoretical analysis is also validated via several numerical examples.

Joint Antenna and User Selection for Untrusted Relay Networks

Bingtao He, Qiang Ni, Jian Chen +2 more

In this paper, we investigate secure communication for an untrusted relay network, in which a source equipped with NS antennas communicates to M users with the help of an untrusted relay. To protect the data confidentially while concurrently relying on the untrusted relays, joint antenna and user selection scheme has been proposed with the aid of cooperative jamming. Furthermore, the impacts of both the number of antennas and the number of users on system performance are studied. Both the secrecy outage probability (SOP) and ergodic secrecy rate (ESR) are derived in closed form, and the secrecy diversity order of the considered networks is proved to be min(NS, M/2). Compared with the traditional single antenna and single source-destination scenario, both SOP and ESR can achieve a great improvement owing to the mutual effects of antenna diversity and user diversity. In addition, numerical results are conducted to demonstrate the validity of the proposed scheme.

Secure Cooperative Transmission Against Jamming-Aided Eavesdropper for ARQ Based Wireless Networks

Dawei Wang, Pinyi Ren, Qinghe Du +2 more

Secure the cooperative transmission is studied for an automatic repeat request (ARQ)-based wireless network against a jamming-aided eavesdropper. The eavesdropper utilizes the jamming attack to assist its eavesdropping by forcing the legitimate transmitter to retransmit its confidential messages under poor wiretap channel quality. Then, utilizing these retransmission opportunities, the eavesdropper will eavesdrop the confidential message under good wiretap channel quality. To address the threat from the jamming-aided eavesdropper in the ARQ-based wireless network, we propose an adaptive cooperative relaying and jamming secure transmission scheme to protect the confidential messages. In the proposed scheme, the legitimate receiver adopts the energy detection method to detect the jamming-aided eavesdropper's action and a cooperative node will aid the secure transmission through cooperative relaying under jamming attack or cooperative jamming under eavesdropping attack. By taking into account of the detection errors, we investigate the transmission outage probability and the secrecy outage probability, and derive their closed-form expressions for both one retransmission and multiple retransmissions scenarios. Numerical results are presented to verify the derived analytical results and demonstrate the performance superiority of the proposed scheme in terms of the secrecy outage probability.
