Abstract

This article concerns the singularly of perturbed Gross-Pitaevskii equations in trapped dipolar quantum gases, $$\displaylines{ - \varepsilon^2 \Delta u + V(x)u +{\lambda _1}{| u |^2}u + {\lambda _2}(K * {| u |^2})u= 0 \quad \text{in } \mathbb{R}^3, \cr u > 0,\quad u \in {H^1}({\mathbb{R}^3}), }$$ where \(\varepsilon \) is a small positive parameter, \(\lambda_1, \lambda_2\in \mathbb{R}\), \(*\) denotes the convolution, \( K(x) = \frac{{1 - 3{{\cos }^2}\theta }}{{{{| x |}^3}}}\) and \(\theta = \theta(x)\) is the angle between the dipole axis determined by \((0,0,1)\) and the vector \(x\). Moreover, the potential \(V\) satisfies \(\liminf_{|x| \to \infty } V(x) > \inf_{\mathbb{R}^3} V(x) = 0\). Under certain assumptions on \((\lambda_1, \lambda_2)\in \mathbb{R}^2\), we construct a family of positive solutions \({u_\varepsilon } \in {H^1}({\mathbb{R}^3})\) whose \({L^\infty }\) norm approaches \(0\) as \(\varepsilon \to 0\). Our main results extend the results in Byeon and Wang [6] which dealt with singularly perturbed Schrodinger equations with a local nonlinearity, to the nonlocal Gross-Pitaevskii type equation. 8 ON THE GROSS–PITAEVSKII EQUATION FOR TRAPPED DIPOLAR QUANTUM GASES

Peter A. Markowich, Christof Sparber

We study the time-dependent Gross–Pitaevskii equation describing Bose–Einstein condensation of trapped dipolar quantum gases. Existence and uniqueness as well as the possible blow-up of solutions are studied. Moreover, we discuss the problem of dimension reduction for this nonlinear and nonlocal Schrödinger equation.

Complementary study of the standing wave solutions of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation in dipolar quantum gases

Rémi Carles, Hichem Hajaiej

We study the stability of the standing wave solutions of a Gross–Pitaevskii equation describing Bose–Einstein condensation of dipolar quantum gases and characterize their orbit. As an intermediate step, we consider the corresponding constrained minimization problem and establish existence, symmetry and uniqueness of the ground state solutions.

Blow-up for trapped dipolar quantum gases with large energy

Yanfang Gao, Zhiyong Wang

We consider a Gross–Pitaevskii equation with harmonic potential arising in dipolar Bose–Einstein condensate. We extend the scope of blow-up solutions in the work of Carles, Markowich, and Sparber [Nonlinearity 21(11), 2569–2590 (2008)] to those with arbitrarily large energy in a partial unstable regime.

On three-component Gross-Pitaevskii equations in the spinor Bose-Einstein condensates with trapping potentials

Zhi-You Chen, Yu-Jen Huang, Yong-Li Tang

We are concerned with the three-component generalized Gross-Pitaevskii Equations (GGPE) in the spinor Bose-Einstein condensates with trapping potentials. Under certain conditions on trapping potentials and parameters, we establish the existence and uniqueness of corresponding standing wave solutions with behaviors tending to zero at infinity. The same issues for the corresponding Dirichlet boundary value problems on the ball centered at the origin are also concluded. Additionally, we provide a classification of various types of solutions to radially symmetric situations.

Derivation of the time-dependent Gross-Pitaevskii equation for the dipolar gases

Arnaud Triay

We derive the time-dependent dipolar Gross-Pitaevskii (GP) equation from the N-body Schr{ö}dinger equation. More precisely we show a norm approximation for the solution of the many body equation as well as the convergence of its one-body reduced density matrix towards the orthogonal projector onto the solution of the dipolar GP equation. We consider the interpolation regime where interaction potential is scaled like $N^{3β--1} w(N^β(x -- y))$, the range of validity of $β$ depends on the stability of the ground state problem. In particular we can prove the convergence on the one-body density matrix assuming $\widehat{w} $\ge$ 0$ and $β< 3/8$.
