Abstract

Abstract Quantum battery charging in an optimized manner is of significance in quantum state engineering and technology. This paper presents an efficient scheme for rapidly charging a superconducting qutrit battery via shortcuts to adiabaticity. A qutrit battery of a superconducting quantum circuit having sufficient level anharmonicity is driven by two classical microwave fields, constituting an effective Λ -configuration interaction. Within the framework of invariant-based inverse engineering, the fast charging of the qutrit battery can be realized through suitably designing the Rabi frequencies without the restriction of adiabatic criterion. Numerical simulations showcase that high-efficiency charging could be obtained in the presence of noise decoherence and timing error. Thus the scheme could pave a feasible avenue to investigate qutrit battery charging in a fast and robust way in experiments.

Fast population transfer with a superconducting qutrit via non-Hermitian shortcut to adiabaticity

Xin-Ping Dong, Zhi‐Bo Feng, Xiao-Jing Lu +2 more

Non-Hermitian dissipation dynamics, capable of turning the conventionally detrimental decoherence effects to useful resources for state engineering, is highly attractive to quantum information processing. In this work, an effective scheme is developed for implementing fast population transfer with a superconducting qutrit via the non-Hermitian shortcut to adiabaticity (STA). We first deal with a Λ-configuration interaction between the qutrit and microwave drivings, in which the dephasing-assisted qubit state inversion requiring an overlarge dephasing rate is constructed non-adiabatically. After introducing a feasible ancillary driving that directly acts upon the qubit states, the target state transfer can be well realized but with an accessible qubit dephasing rate. Moreover, a high fidelity could be numerically obtained in the considered system. The strategy could provide a new route towards the non-Hermitian shortcut operations on superconducting quantum circuits.

Fast and robust population transfer with a Josephson qutrit via shortcut to adiabaticity

Zhi‐Bo Feng, Xiao-Jing Lu, Run‐Ying Yan +1 more

We propose an effective scheme to implement fast and robust population transfer with a Josephson qutrit via shortcut to adiabaticity. Facilitated by the level-transition rule, a Λ-configuration resonant interaction can be realized between microwave drivings and the qutrit with sufficient level anharmonicity, from which we perform the reversible population transfers via invariant-based shortcut. Compared with the detuned drivings, the utilized resonant drivings shorten the transfer times significantly. Further analysis of the dependence of transfer time on Rabi couplings is helpful to experimental investigations. Thanks to the accelerated process, transfer operation is highly insensitive to noise effects. Thus the protocol could provide a promising avenue to experimentally perform fast and robust quantum operations on Josephson artificial atoms.

Shortcut-based quantum gates on superconducting qubits in circuit QED*

Zheng‐Yin Zhao, Run‐Ying Yan, Zhi‐Bo Feng

Construction of optimal gate operations is significant for quantum computation. Here an efficient scheme is proposed for performing shortcut-based quantum gates on superconducting qubits in circuit quantum electrodynamics (QED). Two four-level artificial atoms of Cooper-pair box circuits, having sufficient level anharmonicity, are placed in a common quantized field of circuit QED and are driven by individual classical microwaves. Without the effect of cross resonance, one-qubit NOT gate and phase gate in a decoupled atom can be implemented using the invariant-based shortcuts to adiabaticity. With the assistance of cavity bus, a one-step SWAP gate can be obtained within a composite qubit-photon-qubit system by inversely engineering the classical drivings. We further consider the gate realizations by adjusting the microwave fields. With the accessible decoherence rates, the shortcut-based gates have high fidelities. The present strategy could offer a promising route towards fast and robust quantum computation with superconducting circuits experimentally.

Generating microwave photon Fock states in a circuit QED via invariant-based shortcuts to adiabaticity

Run‐Ying Yan, Zhi‐Bo Feng

Abstract Optimal generation of photon Fock states is of significance to quantum science and technology. Here we develop a theoretical scheme for fast generating microwave photon Fock states in a circuit quantum electrodynamics (QED) via invariant-based shortcuts to adiabaticity. A superconducting transmon qubit is dispersively coupled to a cavity field of transmission line resonator. Two classical drivings are applied to a composite system, consisting of a transmon qubit and cavity field. In the two-photon resonance with a large intermediate-level detuning, a single-photon Fock state can be fast created by inversely engineering Rabi couplings. With the assistance of auxiliary driving, qubit state can be initialized for inducing multi-photon Fock states in the shortcut manner. Due to negligible leakage effects and high robustness, our scheme offers a potential way to rapidly prepare photon Fock states with a superconducting qubit in circuit QED.

Speeding up the Generation of Entangled State between a Superconducting Qubit and Cavity Photons via Counterdiabatic Driving

Run‐Ying Yan, Zhi‐Bo Feng, Ming Li +2 more

Abstract Optimal generation of entangled states is of critical significance for robust quantum information processing. An effective scheme is presented for speeding up the generation of an entangled state between a superconducting qubit and microwave photons via counterdiabatic driving. At a magic bias point, the first three levels of a charge‐phase quantum circuit constitute an effective qutrit. An entangled state based on adiabatic population transfer is first achieved. By the technique of shortcuts to adiabaticity, a counterdiabatic driving is applied to the qutrit, which then accelerates the entanglement generation significantly. Moreover, with the accessible decoherence rates, the rapid operations in a shortcut way are highly robust when compared with adiabatic manipulations. The scheme could offer a promising approach toward optimal preparation of entangled states with superconducting artificial atoms in circuit quantum electrodynamics, experimentally.

Optimizing the charging of quantum batteries via shortcuts to adiabaticity

Sh. Ebrahimi, S. Salimi, F. T. Tabesh +1 more

Although implementing shortcuts to adiabaticity (STA) in open quantum systems remains challenging due to the complex control schemes required for such systems, their powerful ability to rapidly steer the system toward target states and their widespread applicability in quantum technologies have motivated us to explore their potential in quantum energy storage. In this work, we employ STA techniques to charge an open quantum battery and demonstrate that the extractable work (Ergotropy) from such a battery can be significantly enhanced by several times compared to the case where the battery is charged using a time independent driving field. Our results pave the way for accelerating the dynamics of open quantum systems and suggest promising applications in the development of high-performance, stable quantum batteries.
