Abstract

Research on experimental scheme based on non-critical squeezed light field detection

Broadband squeezed light field by magnetostriction in an opto-magnomechanical

Ke Di, Shuai Tan, Anyu Cheng +3 more

We present a novel mechanism for generating a wide bandwidth squeezed optical output field in an opto-magnomechanical system. In this system, the magnon (mechanical) mode in the yttrium-iron-garnet crystal is coupled to the microwave field (optical field) through magnetic dipole (radiation pressure) interaction. The magnetostrictive force induced by the yttrium-iron-garnet crystal causes a mechanical displacement and creates a quadrature squeezed magnon mode. Eventually, this quadrature squeezed mechanical mode is transferred to the output optical field through state-swap interaction. Our results demonstrate the optimal parameter range for obtaining a stable squeezed optical output field with a wide bandwidth. Moreover, the squeezed light field exhibits strong robustness to environmental temperature. The new scheme we propose has potential applications in quantum precision measurements, quantum wireless networks, quantum radar, etc.

Experimental characterisation of a broadband multimode squeezed light source in the high gain regime

Gil Triginer, Mihai D. Vidrighin, A. Eckstein +3 more

Summary form only given. Recent advances in the design of broadband parametric down-conversion (PDC) sources have opened the possibility to attain a regime of high squeezing previously unacessible in the pulsed domain [1]. However, characterising a PDC source is a challenging task when multiple spectral modes are being squeezed simultaneously and one wants to determine the number of squeezers and their relative strengths. Moreover, as one approaches the high squeezing regime, a number of nonlinear effects that are not usually considered when the source is operated at low pump power become relevant [2, 3].Here we present a technique to perform a complete and self-referenced characterisation of a broadband PDC source using only classical measurements. Often, PDC sources are described by their joint spectral amplitude, which conveys the frequency correlations between the generated photons. Our method complements the information contained in the joint spectrum with a measurement of a second-order process that to our knowledge has not been directly measured until now. Generally, a PDC process can be described as a Bogoliuvov transformation of the bosonic operators of the formaouts (ω) = f dω'Us,s(ω,ω') ains + f dω''Us,i(ω,ω'')(ain i (ω''))† for the signal and analogously for the idler mode. In our work we show that these transfer functions, Us,s(i,i) and Us,i(i,s), can be measured in the stimulated regime [4,5], by scanning the wavelength of a narrowband seed laser and performing a frequency resolved intensity measurement of the generated light.

Generation of 10-dB squeezed light from a broadband waveguide optical parametric amplifier with improved phase locking method

Kazuki Hirota, Takahiro Kashiwazaki, Gyeongmin Ha +10 more

We report generation of 10.1\pm0.2-dB squeezed light from a broadband periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) waveguide optical parametric amplifier (OPA). Based on our previous report where a similar PPLN waveguide shows 8.3-dB squeezing [T. Kashiwazaki et al., Appl. Phys. Lett. 122, 234003 (2023)], we reduce phase fluctuations and overall optical losses in the measurement system. In particular, we introduce a novel phase detection technique that does not require tapping a part of the squeezed light to get a phase locking signal. We use a phase-detection OPA seeded by a tapped probe and pump light before a squeezer OPA. This configuration breaks the conventional trade-off between generating a phase-locking signal with high-signal-to-noise ratio and suppressing degradation of squeezing level caused by optical tapping. With all these improvements, the phase fluctuation angle is reduced from 14 mrad to 9 mrad, and the total optical loss from 12\% to 8\%. Achieving more than 10 dB of squeezing by the broadband waveguide OPA is a significant step towards realization of fault-tolerant ultra-fast universal optical quantum computation.

Over-8-dB squeezed light generation by a broadband waveguide optical parametric amplifier toward fault-tolerant ultra-fast quantum computers

Takahiro Kashiwazaki, Taichi Yamashima, Koji Enbutsu +6 more

We achieved continuous-wave 8.3-dB squeezed light generation using a terahertz-order-broadband waveguide optical parametric amplifier by improving a measurement setup from our previous work [T. Kashiwazaki et al., Appl. Phys. Lett. 119, 251104 (2021)], where a low-loss periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) waveguide had shown 6.3-dB squeezing at a 6 THz frequency. First, to improve efficiency of the squeezed light detection, we reduced effective optical loss to about 12% by removing extra optics and changing the detection method into a low-loss balanced homodyne measurement. Second, to minimize phase-locking fluctuation, we constructed a frequency-optimized phase-locking system by comprehending its frequency responses. Finally, we found optimal experimental parameters of a measurement frequency and a pump power from their dependences for the squeezing levels. The measurement frequency was decided as 11 MHz to maximize a clearance between shot and circuit noises. Furthermore, pump power was optimized as 660 mW to get higher squeezing level while suppressing anti-squeezed-noise contamination due to an imperfection of phase locking. Note that this over-8-dB squeezing is achieved without any loss-correction and circuit-noise correction. Moreover, it is shown that the squeezing level soon after our PPLN waveguide is estimated at over 10 dB, which is thought to be mainly restricted by the waveguide loss. This broadband highly squeezed light opens the possibility to realize fault-tolerant ultra-fast optical quantum computers.
