Abstract

This paper aims to study the photons antibunching in the fundamental, Stokes and signal modes of CAHRS (coherent anti-Stokes hyper Raman scattering). The generalized interaction Hamiltonian was calculated for different conditions in the Heisenberg picture under short time approximation to observe photons antibunching in the fundamental, Stokes and signal modes of CAHRS. It has been found that antibunching in the fundamental field is dependent upon interaction time, photons number, and coupling strength of field. Third order photon antibunching is found to be nonclassical to a greater extent than second- and first-order photon antibunching for the identical pump photons count. It has been also observed that the effect of photon antibunching in Stokes and signal modes is less prominent than in the fundamental- mode. Furthermore, it is also found that antibunching will increase at short interaction timeswith the increase of depth of nonclassical behavior. Finally, the extent of photons antibunching peaks precisely where the second correlation function is lowest.

Quantum squeezing effects of radiation in Stokes and anti-Stokes modes in coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering and coherent anti-Stokes hyper-Raman scattering

Dilip Kumar Giri, Partha Sarathi Gupta

The non-classical effects of squeezing of light in coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) and coherent anti-Stokes hyper-Raman scattering (CAHRS) are investigated under the short-time approximation based on a fully quantum mechanical approach. In an idealized model CARS, the interaction is looked upon as a process involving absorption of a pump photon and emission of a Stokes photon, which is followed by absorption of a pump photon and subsequently emission of an anti-Stokes photon at a different frequency, whereas CAHRS is looked upon as a process involving absorption of two pump photons and emission of a Stokes photon, which is followed by absorption of two more pump photons and subsequent emission of an anti-Stokes photon at a different frequency. The coupled Heisenberg equations of motion involving real and imaginary parts of the quadrature operators are established. It is shown that squeezing in the Stokes and anti-Stokes mode in CARS is found to be dependent on amplitude-squared squeezing of the initial pump field while, in CAHRS, it is dependent on the fourth-order amplitude squeezing of the initial pump field. Higher-order squeezing can be converted to linear squeezing through these processes. It is also shown that squeezing is greater in CAHRS than the corresponding squeezing in CARS.

Photon antibunching in sixth harmonic generation

Rupesh Singh, Dilip Kumar Giri

We studied photon antibunching in the pump and the harmonic modes of the sixth harmonic generation process. The generalized interaction Hamiltonian is solved for several particular cases in the Heisenberg picture, and the possibility of observing photon antibunching is investigated using the short-time approximation technique. It is shown that the photon antibunching in the pump field depends on the number of pump photons, the interaction time, and the coupling of the field between the modes. With the same amount of pump photons, we deduced that third-order photon antibunching is more nonclassical than second- and first-order photon antibunching. In this process, the effect of photon antibunching is not seen in the harmonic mode over pump mode. It is shown that photon antibunching is more noticeable with shorter interaction times as the depth of nonclassicality increases and the second-order correlation function decreases. The first-order Hamiltonian interaction, which stimulates both pump and harmonic fields, is demonstrated to be more nonclassical than the second-order Hamiltonian interaction. It is clear that the coherent state, or vacuum state, of a pump field with a nonzero harmonic field creates photon clusters because the pump field causes interaction, which leads to bunching effects. It is interpreted that the degree of photon antibunching is maximum in the regions where the second correlation function is minimum. Photon antibunching has been shown to be one of the quantum properties of light.

Antibunching, Sub-Poissonian, and Correlation Functions of Photons in Seventh Harmonic Generation Process

The study investigates antibunching, sub-Poissonian statistics, and photon correlation functions in the pump and harmonic modes of the seventh harmonic generation process. We investigated various approaches to photon antibunching by solving the generalised interaction Hamiltonian in the Heisenberg picture using short-time approximation. It is inferred that the number of pump photons, coupling of the field strength, and interaction times significantly influence photon antibunching. It is observed that third-order antibunching in the pump mode has greater nonclassicality than second-and first-order antibunching. In the harmonic mode, the nonclassical effect is found to be less pronounced and becomes more evident as the interaction time decreases. The first-order Hamiltonian interaction induces a stronger nonclassical effect than the second-order interaction. The interaction of a coherent pump field with a nonzero harmonic field leads to photon clustering and bunching effects. Finally, photon antibunching appears most pronounced, indicating nonclassicality, as the second-order correlation function decreases. This confirms that antibunching is a fundamental quantum property of light.

Quantum Theory of Hyper-Raman Scattering

Yu. P. Malakyan

We develop the quantum theory of stimulated hyper-Raman scattering (HRS) and discuss the quantum statistics of pump and Stokes fields. We show that the initially coherent pump field acquires a strong squeezing that exceeds the similar squeezing in other nonlinear processes also involving two-photon absorption. Stokes field statistics are analysed in detail as a function of the initial statistics of both modes. Bunching effects are shown to be amplified in the short-time region, while in asymptotics the antibunching of Stokes photons becomes dominant, which in many cases results in sub-Poissonian statistics of Stokes mode. We also find a number of correlation effects between the photons of the two modes.

Pump photons present in a non-linear process as a witnesses of nonclassicality of a system

We have studied non-classical effects, i.e. higher order photon antibunching (HOA) and higher order sub-Poissonian photon number statistics (HOSPS) in various non-linear optical processes like second harmonic generation, fourth harmonic generation, coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) and coherent anti-Stokes hyper-Raman scattering (CAHRS) using short time interaction techniques. The non-classical effects directly depend on number of photons prior to interaction with non-linear medium has already been studied but we have found that non-linear processes involving equal number of pump photons have same higher order photo antibunching (HOA) and higher order sub-Poissonian photon number statistics (HOSPS) independent of the non-linear process involved.KEYWORDS Higher order sub-Poissonian photon number statistics, higher order photon antibunching, optical processes.FOR CITATION Priyanka, Savita Gill Pump photons present in a non-linear process as a witnesses of nonclassicality of a system.

Photon Correlations in Multi-photon Raman Processes

Przemyslaw Szlachetka, S. Kielich, Jan Peřina +1 more

Non-linear interactions between incident and scattered photons (Stokes and anti-Stokes radiation) in Raman and hyper-Raman processes considered as elementary acts, are analysed. Fluctuations of phonons are shown to cause anticorrelation effects between incident and scattered photons. Antibunching of incident laser photons in spontaneous hyper-Raman processes occurs in a similar way to their antibunching in second-harmonic generation.
