This paper gives a first-principles structural derivation of Planck’s constant within the completion-locked closure framework. The derivation begins from a completion-locked phase–time–energy structure in which admissible phase-frequency comparisons are fixed before energy observables are compared. It does not assume the numerical value of Planck’s constant, the Planck–Einstein energy–frequency law, the standard Hamiltonian phase convention, or canonical commutator normalization. Instead, the action scale is derived from a projective phase carrier, a strongly continuous time-translation representation with Stone angular-frequency generator, an admissible class of energy observables for the same deformation, a sector-rich and spectrally exhaustive comparison structure, and, for dimensional reporting only, a unit convention. The main representation theorem proves that any admissible energy observable satisfying spectral affiliation, direct-sum naturality, tensor-product additivity, zero normalization, continuity, positivity orientation, spectral exhaustivity, and common-source descent must be linear in the Stone generator. This yields a unique reduced action scale, from which the full-cycle quantum of action follows by circle normalization. The Planck–Einstein energy–frequency law is then derived as a consequence of the same structure rather than assumed as an input. The paper also establishes conditional action-unit closure pathways. A certified electromagnetic response branch supplies one action-unit closure path, while a certified curvature–vacuum branch supplies a second through an independently derived source vacuum invariant. A single certified dimensional branch determines the action unit within its unit convention; two same-source certified branches overdetermine the same action unit and therefore must agree. Since Planck’s constant is dimensional, its decimal value becomes meaningful only after an action-unit convention or certified dimensional branch has been specified. Under the post-2019 SI convention, the numerical value of Planck’s constant is exact by definition. The structural contribution of the paper is to identify Planck’s constant not as an empirical insertion into quantum dynamics, but as the derived action-conversion invariant relating phase-frequency generation to physical energy observables, with independent electromagnetic and curvature–vacuum closure paths for the same action unit. Several fundamental physical relations share a mathematical structure in which the product of two conjugate quantities equals an invariant constant. Representative examples include the energy-period relation ET = h (where T = 1/f is the oscillation period and h is Planck’s constant), the momentum-wavelength relation pλ = h (the de Broglie relation), and the frequency-wavelength dispersion relation fλ = c. Although these expressions originate from quantum mechanics, wave mechanics, and electromagnetism respectively, each belongs to the generalized class XY = K, where K is an invariant constant. Their shared algebraic form raises the question of whether a common organizational principle underlies physical representation. This paper proposes the Foundational Principle of Closure Representation as an interpretational framework. Within this framework, action is adopted as the foundational quantity, and closure is introduced as a representation-independent measure of cyclic completion, defined by the condition Δθ = 2π. Planck’s constant h is interpreted as the action associated with one completed closure—consistent with the Bohr–Sommerfeld quantization condition ∮p dq = nh. The Planck relation E = hf is accordingly understood as the product of action per closure and closure rate per unit time. A representation-transfer relation (RX)(Y/R) = XY is introduced, where R is a dimensionless representation coordinate. A measurable realization is given by R = λC/λdB = p/(mc), coinciding with the standard relativistic quantity γβ. This relation is a mathematical identity; its physical significance lies in the proposed interpretation of R as a representation coordinate characterizing the distribution of closure action between conjugate observables. The proposed framework does not introduce new physical laws, modify established equations, or claim to supersede existing theories. It provides a unified interpretational architecture within which several established reciprocal relations—connecting action, closure, wavelength, frequency, momentum, and propagation—may be understood as instances of a common closure-action structure.
This paper presents a Coherence Geometry interpretation of Planck’s constant as a natural action scale arising from phase closure in structured coherence fields. Planck’s constant is traditionally introduced as an empirical constant. In this paper, a natural coherence action scale S0 arises from the requirement that stable μ-field structures close phase cycles in integral multiples of 2π. This quantizes action increments as S=2πnS0. The standard quantum relations follow once S0 is calibrated to laboratory data, yielding S0=ℏ. The result is structural rather than numerological: the paper does not claim to derive the measured numerical value of h without calibration. Instead, it argues that an action scale of the Planck type appears naturally from phase-constrained coherence geometry, with numerical value fixed by physical units and experimental comparison. Cosmological beginning problems often begin with an early classical state of the universe and then ask what that state can tell us about earlier structure, initial conditions, or origin. This paper studies a prior finite-dimensional question: under what explicit conditions can a stable low-entropy classical description be initiated from more primitive data? The paper proves finite sufficient conditions under which history selection, boundary extraction, projective reduction, and action-unit calibration produce a stable classical boundary law from an upstream finite carrier. The resulting boundary law is a first accessible classical chart generated by the finite datum. It is not assumed as a primitive classical state and is not identified with the origin of the carrier from which it descends. The construction begins with a finite total carrier, a finite boundary Hilbert space, a finite history-selection family, a boundary channel, and a finite projective boundary context. Under a positive rigidity gap, the selected boundary state converges exponentially to an equilibrium boundary state. The projective boundary context then determines a commutative outcome algebra, and the corresponding outcome weights form a classical probability law. The theorem also gives an explicit entropy concentration result. When the equilibrium boundary support has finite rank, the boundary entropy satisfies a concentration bound with exponentially small off-sector weight. The resulting boundary law is therefore stable and effectively classical. The boundary-accessibility quotient determines exactly which distinctions are represented by the initiated chart and which distinctions remain inaccessible through the declared boundary channel. In the noninjective case, the initiated chart is necessarily compressed: it represents precisely the distinctions separated by the boundary law and no more. The finite theorem proceeds through four stages: history selection, boundary extraction, projective reduction, and action-unit calibration. Boundary accessibility determines the content of the initiated chart, while Planck action-unit closure supplies the final calibration step needed to make the chart physically reportable by fixing the energy-time reporting scale associated with the boundary law. The theorem supplies finite sufficient conditions for initiating a classical cosmological chart from upstream finite data. It identifies a first-principles distinction between carrier origin and chart initiation: the initiated boundary law is certified from explicit selection, accessibility, projection, quotient, entropy, and calibration data. For Big-Bang-type applications, the theorem functions as an audit condition for the initial classical chart itself. Any downstream use of that chart in spacetime realization, inflationary dynamics, singularity resolution, or microscopic quantum-gravity modeling must supply the additional hypotheses required for that application. With causal-chart certification data added, the initiated boundary law becomes the finite boundary-channel component of a classical cosmological chart. This paper establishes the structural uniqueness of a phase-to-action conversion scale within an admissibility-first framework. Starting from a quotient-defined principal phase and its real cover, it proves that any admissible action representative possesses a constant monodromy, while linear conversion follows only under separately declared history-composition and single-phase sufficiency conditions. The resulting scale is universal only across commissioned, cycle-consistent comparison channels, with disconnected sectors remaining Undefined. Applied to the wider framework, the theorem supplies the missing formal justification for the common factor identified empirically with (\hbar), without claiming to derive its numerical value or the full structure of quantum mechanics.
This short note proposes that the conserved substance of physics is action, not energy. Energy conservation is, by Noether's theorem, the exact statement of a uniform flow of time — an assumption that fails, even if only slightly, in a relativistic universe where clocks run at different rates in different places. Read the other way, Planck's relation becomes a conservation law rather than an empirical input: Eτ = h, one quantum of action processed per cycle of a local resonance, with ordinary energy conservation recovered as the special case in which the period τ is held fixed. The note carries exactly one assumption beyond the algebra, stated plainly rather than smuggled in: the vacuum is a medium of such resonances, and a particle is a persistent, self-closing cycle within it. Angle and capacity The invariant has two faces. The law pins the magnitude at h — the capacity — leaving the accumulated phase φ as the only freedom: dS = ℏ dφ. Every familiar conjugate pair is this one statement read along a different axis of advance — energy against time, momentum against position, angular momentum against orientation — three orthogonal accounts of one accumulating phase, each closing one unit of capacity per cycle: Eτ = h, pλ = h, L·2π = h. This split is where classical and quantum mechanics part ways. An open trajectory reads the phase continuously, and its stationary-phase condition is the principle of least action; a closed resonance can only count whole turns, and closure quantises. Quantisation is a property of closure, not a property of the phase — the boundary between classical and quantum is a change of topology, not a change of law. What follows mechanically From the capacity law alone, with no further postulate, three familiar structures are recovered. A resonance at rest turns at the Compton frequency ωC = mc²/ℏ, so that one full turn spends exactly one quantum, EτC = h: mass is nothing but a resonance's cycling rate. Driven through the medium, a resonance meets an increased flux that scales as the Lorentz factor; conserving its fixed action budget under that load forces its geometry to yield — contraction along the direction of motion, dilation of its internal period — recovering special relativity as mechanical equilibration rather than a postulate about coordinates, with no rest frame ever exposed because the same yielding that would reveal one also defines the observer's own rulers and clocks. Requiring the accumulated phase along a worldline to stay coherent, expanded in the weak-field limit, returns the classical Lagrangian directly, −Mc²dτ = (T − V − Mc²)dt: least action is not minimised as a primitive rule, it is what capacity conservation looks like when a resonance crosses a gradient of the medium. And the Heisenberg relation σxσp ≥ ℏ/2 is read as the ordinary bandwidth (Gabor) theorem for a wave and its Fourier transform — a floor on occupancy for a phase-locked resonance, not a ceiling on knowledge. Gravity, without a graviton The most interpretive claim in the note, flagged as such throughout: if the metric's invariant is Eτ = h rather than a fixed energy, the metric carries no absolute clock, and the phase-lock condition forces its temporal and spatial responses to be reciprocal, giving the bipolar exponential line element ds² = −e−2ξc²dt² + e+2ξdx². The conceptual point is what this reframes: the decades-long search for a quantum theory of gravity has sought a graviton by quantising the metric on a fixed background, when gravity is the background. On this reading there is no separate field to quantise — the medium's deformation is already quantised at h per cycle, and gravity is simply the shape of phase accumulation across its gradient. The problem is not solved so much as dissolved: relocated from “how do we quantise the metric” to “the metric was never a separate thing to quantise.” Scope The note is deliberately bounded, and says so explicitly rather than leaving the boundary implicit. It derives special relativity, the principle of least action, and the bandwidth reading of the uncertainty relation from the capacity law alone; it advances the gravitational reading as a stance to be tested against its consequences, not a completed theory. It does not derive the particle spectrum, specific masses, electric charge, colour, or the numerical values of G or α, and makes no cosmological claim. This separation is intentional: a conservation principle should be judged on its own terms. A companion note reports a closed-form numerical identity for the proton mass as a separate, independent empirical fact; the two are meant to be read, and to stand or fall, apart.
