QUANTUM COMPUTING IN MEDICINE: BRIDGING PHYSICS, COMPUTER SCIENCE, AND HEALTHCARE
Sara Mahmood
Quantum computing represents a paradigm shift in computational science, harnessing the principles of quantum mechanics to solve problems beyond the capacity of classical systems. Within the realm of medicine, the integration of quantum computing offers unprecedented opportunities in drug discovery, genomics, diagnostic imaging, and personalized healthcare. This article explores the multidisciplinary intersection of physics, computer science, and medical sciences, highlighting case studies from both global and Pakistani contexts. Graphical analyses illustrate the potential of quantum computing in accelerating drug discovery, optimizing diagnostic imaging, enhancing genomic analysis, and fostering public trust in quantum technologies. Despite significant promise, ethical concerns, high infrastructure costs, and the need for robust policy frameworks remain key challenges. The study concludes that quantum computing, if strategically developed, can revolutionize Pakistan’s healthcare landscape and contribute to global medical innovation.
