Abstract

ABSTRACT The cross-integration of spacetime physics and quantum precision measurement has promoted human cognition of spacetime from theoretical speculation to experimental verification. However, the research on spacetime coupling effects in the low-energy region and laboratory scale has long been a cutting-edge blank field. Guided by the methodology of scientific philosophy, this paper proposes α=6.2×10⁻¹⁶ as a candidate detection anchor at a purely methodological level for this research gap. Focusing on the 10⁻¹⁶ order of magnitude blank precision interval, three cold atom experiments: optical lattice ultracold atom interference experiment, high-precision optical lattice atomic clock experiment, Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) quantum measurement experiment, and three non-cold atom experiments: thermal atomic beam interference experiment, commercial rubidium atomic clock experiment, conventional atom interferometer experiment are clearly defined. A gradient experimental framework of "current signal screening and magnitude calibration layer + high-precision pre-detection and future verification layer" is constructed. It clarifies the research path that non-cold atom experiments can carry out screening and calibration at present, cold atom experiments start pre-detection based on existing technologies, and accurate verification can be realized after technological breakthroughs in the next 10-20 years. There is no strong ontological presupposition in this paper. It breaks through the traditional "theory-first" research paradigm, puts forward the original methodology of candidate anchor method, clarifies the setting logic and rationality of candidate anchors, responds to the query of random numerical selection, clearly marks the adapted cold atom and non-cold atom experiment systems, and explains the scientific philosophical connotation and practical logic of the hierarchical experimental framework. The research not only fits the current technological reality of quantum precision measurement, but also builds an original underlying logical framework for this brand-new research field of low-energy spacetime coupling effect, clearly marks all applicable experimental names, fills the gaps in methodology and research system in this field, realizes the deep cross between scientific philosophy and cutting-edge physics research, and provides a complete, implementable and original idea for the exploration of unknown cutting-edge fields.

(Precision Measurement of Low-Energy Spacetime: An Interdisciplinary Research Centered on 6.2×10⁻¹⁶)

Haiyang Liu

ABSTRACT Modern quantum precision measurement has entered the precision range of 10⁻¹⁹ to 10⁻²¹, while the 10⁻¹⁶ magnitude has long been regarded as the system error-dominated area, lacking systematic and targeted scientific detection. From the perspective of scientific philosophy and experimental methodology, this paper proposes taking the candidate weak coupling constant α = 6.2×10⁻¹⁶ as the core detection target for low-energy spacetime effects, and presents three complementary experimental approaches: BEC atomic interference phase shift experiment, atomic clock precision timing experiment, and ultracold atomic interference experiment, forming a complete, implementable and falsifiable research framework. This paper does not presuppose strong ontological commitments such as high-dimensional spacetime, dark matter, or cosmological models. It only aims to “fill the blank interval, anchor experimental directions, and promote testable research”. According to the literature retrieval, no scholars have proposed similar research schemes at present, so the idea of this paper is original, pioneering and forward-looking. Regardless of whether future experiments verify this constant, this study will provide an important methodological reference for low-energy spacetime precision measurement and promote the transformation of basic science from theoretical speculation to empirical verification. Transport and coupling of ultra-cold atoms to nano-structured surfaces

Jean-Baptiste Gérent

The entry into the new millennium was marked in the quantum community by the first experimental realizations of the Bose-Einstein condensation of atoms in a vapor, achieved in different research groups. Twenty-five years later, such systems are 'routinely' produced and are the core of many experiments. At the frontier between condensed matter their y, quantum optics, and atomic physics, ultra-cold atoms are subjects of high scientific interest.Ultra-cold gas can be trapped in optical lattices, giving a realistic way of experimentally realizing a new range of lattice Hamiltonians, that are used to simulate condensed matter systems. In these simulations, ultra-cold atoms are used to mimic the behavior of electrons in a solid-state material and could be used to simulate a wide range of complex condensed matter phenomena, such as the fractional quantum Hall effect, topological insulators, and high-temperature superconductivity. In order to study such systems, diffraction-limited quantum gas microscopes have emerged as a way to manipulate and detect atoms trapped in lattice potentials. Using far-field interference, experiments have mainly been restricted to a lattice spacing of 500 nm. This limits the speed of dynamics of all physical processes.Higher energy regimes could be accessed by reducing the lattice spacing. For this purpose, one of the long-term goals of the team is to trap atoms in the near-field of a surface and to make use of the Casimir-Polder forces to shape sub-wavelength potentials. Thanks to nano-fabrication capabilities, the spacing can be reduced to a few tens of nanometers. However, this requires to adapt the imaging techniques to observe cold-atoms with sub-wavelength spatial resolutions. In this PhD thesis, I report first on the advances toward implementing an atom chip in our experiment, which will serve as an integrated platform to manipulate the quantum gas. I present simulations and study an experimental solution allowing the cloud to be transported to the near-field. The method is based on the interference of a laser radiation in the near field of a rotating surface. It has been fully simulated, and the limitations have been numerically and experimentally assessed. I conclude this part by presenting the first model of chip that has been fabricated. In a second part, I report on the development of a sub-wavelength imaging method of cold Rubidium 87 atoms which is based on excited state dressing. I detail the concept of this nano-metric spatial resolution method and apply it to super-resolve a single longitudinal wave function trapped in a tight lattice that exhibits a width below 30 nm.

Compact, low-noise current drivers for quantum sensors with atom chips

Manuel Popp

Quantum sensors based on atomic interferometry are becoming valued tools for precision measurements in various research areas such as metrology, Earth sciences and inertial sensors. However, the verification of their accuracy is linked to the resolution and thus the free-fall time of the interferometer, which can only be extended on Earth by levitation or other methods, which themselves usually result in a loss of accuracy. Especially in the field of basic research, space-based measurement apparatuses are therefore fascinating prospects to set new standards for fundamental tests and measurements in Earth observation. In space, it is possible to drop the measuring devices alongside their test objects as long as desired, which allows a considerable extension of interferometry time. An important prerequisite for interferometry on such long time scales is the minimization of propagation velocity and initial expansion, which can only be achieved with ultra-cold atomic ensembles such as a bose-einstein condensate (BEC). Therefore, the creation of such a BEC on a compact, space-based platform represents a central challenge for the feasibility of atom interferometers in space. An important step for the necessary adaptation of existing laboratory equipment to space platforms is the sounding rocket mission maius-1, which is to develop and test both technology and methodology for the use of quantum sensors in space. The core of the scientific payload of maius-1 is an ultra-compact cold atomic source, based on the atom chip technology, employed to generate BEC in magnetic traps. The precise magnetic field control with atomic chips, in an environment like that of a sounding rocket, requires specialized current drivers that combine ruggedness, compactness and excellent noise performance that is yet unattainable with commercial technology. This thesis presents design and characterization of a new generation of compact current drivers for this purpose. Based on a typical preparation of a BEC, core specifications for current drivers are derived and their effects on the experiment are discussed. These specifications are then supplemented by the technical requirements of a sounding rocket. The evaluation of the requirements catalogue results in three current driver designs. First of all, an analog, flexible prototype is presented, which, in addition to the demonstration of miniaturization and high power densities, allows many possible settings of control parameters and has been used in the evaluation phase of the maius-1 atomic chip section. The experiences from this phase flowed into the designs of the maius flight hardware, which offer two architectures, adapted to the given technical conditions: one model for the employment at atom chips and one model to drive the external coils around the atom chip. The design process was supported by detailed circuit simulation. They enable fast optimization of control architecture and parameters for any load. Particularly in the case of coils, which are of crucial importance for magnetic traps, the prediction quality obtained represents a major technological advantage in terms of optimizing switching behavior, since predecessor experiments previously depended on heuristic methods for this task. With a volume reduction of more than one order of magnitude compared to laboratory electronics, and output currents of up to 10 A, the current driver modules of maius can be used under harsh temperature conditions from 10 to 70 ℃. They show a temperature drift of 100 ppm/K (chip) or 32 ppm/K (coils). In thermal equilibrium, the drivers work with a relative current stability of 3⋅10−5 (chip) and 5⋅10−6 (coils). Technical current noise is a decisive limitation of the lifetimes in magnetic atom traps. Thus, the noise characteristics of the designs are evaluated in a spectral analysis and compared with commercial laboratory equipment from previous experiments. The thereby obtained values for the integrated current noise of 108 μARMS (Chip) and 64 μARMS (Coils) (1Hz-99.8 kHz), represent an improvement by a factor of 3.8, or 6.4 in comparison to the commercial reference. To conclude the first characterization of the developed designs before the launch of maius the first operational measurements of the integrated source of cold atoms are presented and evaluated in view of temperature drift of the current driver modules in the experiment. The achieved performance values set a new benchmark in the field of compactification and noise performance and thus provide a key technology for compact, atomic chip-based quantum sensors. The presented designs operated successfully on the maius-1 mission which on January 23rd, 2017, among other things, could demonstrate the first creation of a BEC in space.

Liu Weitao
