The black hole information paradox admits several distinct formulations. This paper targets the unitarity formulation: the requirement that pure states evolve to pure states under quantum mechanics conflicts with Hawking's derivation of a mixed thermal density matrix for the radiation. We propose a structural reinterpretation within Temporal Rate Ontology (TRO), in which physical states are represented by directed acyclic graph (DAG) continuation structures and observables are coarse-grained projections of this structure onto a space of observational outcomes. Within this framework, the density matrix of Hawking radiation is a projection-level object: it encodes what is accessible to coarse-grained observation, not the full continuation structure of the system. We argue that this reframing is not a hidden variables position in the standard sense, because TRO does not complete quantum mechanics but replaces its ontological substrate. The island formula results (Almheiri et al. 2019; Penington 2019), which restore the Page curve dynamically, are argued to be orthogonal to TRO's contribution: they establish that information is recoverable in principle through non-local correlations, while TRO provides an ontological account of why projection degeneracy is structurally possible and why apparent loss at the observational level is compatible with preservation at the structural level. A precise condition for projection-induced degeneracy is stated and its implications for the unitarity formulation are developed.

Abstract The black hole information paradox (Hawking, 19741976) poses a fundamental conict: quantum mechanics requires unitary evolution (information is preserved), while black hole evaporation via Hawking radiation appears to destroy information (the radiation is thermal, carrying no information about the in-fallen state). After fty years of debate, the paradox remains unresolvedHawking conceded it in 2004 [3] but no complete mechanism has been identied. ˆ We resolve the paradox by identifying its source: confusing Ω with Πext[Ω]. Information is never destroyed. Ω-conservation (Noether, P2) guarantees this. What is destroyed at the event horizon is not the information but the exterior ˆ observer's projection operator : Πext becomes inapplicable inside the horizon. The ˆ ˆ information encoded in the in-fallen matter passes from Πext[Ω] to Πint[Ω]two projections of the same Ω = 1 that agree in total but disagree in local accessibility. Hawking radiation is the κ→0 leakage of Ω-entanglement across the projection boundary. The Page curve [4]entanglement entropy rising and then falling as the black hole evaporatesfollows directly from Ω-conservation without invoking island formulas [8, 9] or specic stringy mechanisms. The paradox is not a paradox. It is a projection error.
Why do quantum paradoxes persist despite flawless equations? This paper argues that thermal pure states, black hole information loss, and recurrence arise not from physics itself, but from mistaking sampled descriptions for generative reality. Reframes TPS, black hole information, and recurrence through sampling theory as a unified framework Identifies these paradoxes as artifacts of observational projection, not physical inconsistency Clarifies the role of horizons, decoherence, and coarse-graining as irreversible sampling filters Resolves loss–preservation and purity–thermality tensions without new postulates or dynamics Positions sampling theory as an ontological interface between quantum formalism and physical meaning This paper provides a unified reformulation of three longstanding issues in quantum foundations—Thermal Pure States (TPS), the black hole information problem, and Poincaré recurrence—through the lens of sampling theory. Rather than treating these phenomena as independent paradoxes or signs of physical inconsistency, the paper argues that they share a common structural origin: the ontological misplacement of sampled, discrete descriptions as substitutes for underlying generative processes. By explicitly distinguishing continuous generation from observational projection, the paper shows that TPS naturally appear thermal under partial sampling while remaining globally pure, that event horizons act as irreversible band-limiting filters rather than sites of information destruction, and that recurrence arises only within idealized models that implicitly assume perfect reconstruction. In each case, paradox emerges when observational limits are ignored and sample-level quantities are reified as complete representations of reality. Importantly, this framework introduces no new physical postulates or dynamics. Instead, it clarifies the domain of validity of existing quantum, statistical, and gravitational theories by restoring the role of sampling as a foundational constraint. Sampling theory thus functions as an ontological interface, dissolving several persistent quantum paradoxes by realigning formal descriptions with the conditions under which they retain physical meaning. The black hole information paradox presents a fundamental tension between the global unitarity of quantum mechanics and the apparent thermal, mixed-state nature of Hawking radiation. We propose a resolution grounded strictly in the Operational Coherence Bound (OCB), a covariant entropy constraint asserting that while formal (global) information may be unbounded, the operationally accessible and distinguishable information available to any single observer must be finite. By defining operational entropy via vacuum-subtracted relative entropy to ensure finiteness in continuum quantum field theory, we prove the Operational Unitarity Theorem: in a black hole spacetime satisfying the OCB, no single observer can operationally distinguish between unitary and non-unitary evolution of the global state. This framework resolves the Hawking information loss claim, the Page curve verification problem, and the AMPS firewall paradox by demonstrating that the causal geometry of black holes dynamically enforces an observer-indexed cap on cumulative information access. Global unitarity is preserved, but its operational verification is strictly forbidden by the geometric constraints of the observer’s causal diamond. This paper was originally integrated into the Unified Framework for Yang-Mills Mass Gap, QCD Confinement, and Black Hole Information paper uploaded in March 2026 https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18829529 Version 3 updates a duplication error I made in the last version.
This document is part of the Informational Mechanics (IM) framework and is published in the IM-D (Core Physics) series within the IM v0.3 corpus. The paper addresses the black hole information problem by re-examining the physical meaning of information under extreme gravitational collapse. Rather than treating the problem as a conflict between information loss and information preservation, the analysis argues that both alternatives presuppose the continued admissibility of operator-defined information in regimes where the structural conditions required to define information may no longer hold. Within Informational Mechanics, information is defined only where admissible structure exists: stable distinctions, persistent identities, and reproducible correlations supported by operational comparability under disturbance. Under gravitational collapse and evaporation, these conditions fail. In such regimes, the operators required to define, track, or recover information cease to be physically implementable, rendering questions of loss or preservation physically undefined rather than false. This admissibility-based perspective reframes the black hole information paradox without introducing new dynamics, modifying quantum mechanics, or invoking observer-dependent ontologies. Formal unitarity may remain intact at the level of mathematical description, while the physical content of information-bearing correlations becomes inadmissible. The firewall paradox is treated as a direct corollary, arising from an inadmissible demand for simultaneous operator-defined access to interior, exterior, and horizon-spanning descriptions. The paper synthesizes and clarifies the distinct insights associated with Penrose, Hawking, and Susskind by showing that each applies within a different admissible regime. Black holes are treated as local admissibility boundaries, analogous to cosmological regime boundaries analyzed in Regime Condensation Cosmology (IM-D002). This work introduces no new dynamics, models, or experimental fits. Its contribution is disciplinary and structural: to clarify the regime conditions under which “information” is physically defined, and to reclassify the paradox as an inadmissible demand for simultaneous operator-defined access across incompatible regimes.
This paper develops an interpretive reading of the black hole information problem within a consistency-history framework that distinguishes preservation, commitment, recoverability, feasible auditability, and public finality. Its central claim is narrow: the Page time should be understood as a transition in recoverability, not as the onset of redundant public facthood. In controlled island and quantum-extremal-surface models, an interior region associated with the black hole becomes reconstructible from the Hawking radiation after the Page transition. The paper redescribes this as a transition from hidden encoding to recoverable encoding. It does not derive the Page curve, the island formula, replica wormholes, or a solution to the black hole information problem; those results are supplied by the cited quantum-information and quantum-gravity literature. The paper argues that Hawking radiation is not, by itself, a Quantum-Darwinist broadcasting environment for the infalling microstate information. Recovery requires a large radiation region and a holistic decoding, while no small set of disjoint fragments independently carries the same infalling record. Recoverability-in-principle therefore remains distinct from strong public finality, which would require redundant, non-disturbing, and repeatable access by multiple independent observers. The Harlow–Hayden complexity barrier further separates formal reconstructibility from feasible auditability. On this reading, the Page curve schedules delayed recoverability rather than strong public finality. If the recovered information later becomes redundantly recorded in ordinary detectors and environments, that later public finality is a downstream process rather than something supplied by the black hole itself. The paper is interpretive and conceptual, has L2 status within the framework’s claim discipline, and makes no independent empirical prediction.
Version 2: Replaced Word file with properly formatted PDF. No changes to scientific content. --- We argue that quantum entanglement is best understood as the structural non-factorizability of joint continuation measures in a pregeometric framework — one that presupposes neither a background Hilbert space nor a background spacetime. This thesis has direct implications for the interpretation of Bell non-locality, the debate between ontic and epistemic structural realism, and the question of whether entanglement is a fundamental feature of reality or an artifact of quantum-mechanical representation. Within Temporal Rate Ontology (TRO), physical systems are modelled as directed acyclic graphs (DAGs) of continuation events, and entanglement is defined as the non-existence of a product decomposition of the joint continuation measure — a purely combinatorial condition that requires no wavefunction and no shared configuration space. We prove that this structural condition entails the standard correlated measurement outcomes of quantum mechanics, under a mild non-degeneracy condition on the joint DAG that is generically satisfied. The quadratic probability rule is derived from an aggregation-stability argument within the CLT regime rather than postulated. Bell non-locality is reinterpreted as global DAG coherence rather than superluminal influence. Decoherence is modelled as constraint-induced suppression of continuation multiplicity. The framework is situated against relational quantum mechanics, causal set theory, and ontic structural realism, and philosophical objections concerning subsystem identity, underdetermination, and the emergence of the Hilbert space are addressed directly.
