Energy Quantization as a Consequence of Discrete Time: The Dissolution of the Wave-Particle Dichotomy

Abstract

This paper argues that the quantization of energy and the relationship E = hf are not fundamental axioms of quantum mechanics but structural consequences of two postulates: that time is discrete at the Planck scale, and that each discrete temporal unit carries equal action. Planck's constant is identified as the action content of one Planck-time tick, and the Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem is applied to derive the maximum physical frequency. The paper further argues that wave-particle duality dissolves under this framework — a photon is always a wave, and point-like detection events are what quantized energy transfer looks like at the receiving end, not evidence for particle ontology. The double-slit experiment, quantum eraser, and interaction-free measurements are re-examined and shown to require no paradoxical interpretation when particle language is abandoned. The paper is a conceptual contribution intended to motivate formal development. Prior work by Caldirola on the chronon is discussed and distinguished.

What Exactly Are Photons and Quanta?

Xiangqian Zhang, Yuchuan Xu

This paper investigates the essence of photons and quanta by reexamining the bottom layer meanings of the ultraviolet catastrophe, physical calculus, Planck constant, natural constant, energy frequency relation, photoelectric effect, Compton scattering, double slit interference, and wave particle duality. The paper argues that a quantum is not a tiny particle in the universe, and a photon is not a small ball flying through space. A quantum is a discrete fact manifested when the source endpoint opens a ledger and the receiving endpoint seals it under finite space unit refresh. A photon is the discrete readout formed when an open electromagnetic ledger is issued at the source endpoint or sealed at the receiving endpoint. In the Natural Origins framework, the root of the ultraviolet catastrophe is not the blackbody itself, but the mistaken treatment of mathematical infinitesimals as physical ontology. Space units possess finite elementary length and finite elementary frequency, and the speed of light comes from relay refresh of space units. Therefore, physical processes cannot be divided without limit into zero space and zero time. Planck constant is not an isolated patch, but the manifestation of a complete cycle action ledger. The proportional relation between energy and frequency comes from the rhythm readout by which a difference ledger drives elemental cells to complete ledger opening and sealing. The photoelectric effect shows that an open ledger must cross the material unsealing threshold by single unit energy, while Compton scattering shows that the open ledger and the closed electron ledger can reallocate their accounts. The paper further states that in double slit interference, what truly passes through the double slit is not a photon ball, but an open electromagnetic ledger. The double slit boundary rephases, reorganizes, and reissues the ledger, while screen elemental cells form bright and dark fringes according to ledger alignment and cancellation. So called wave particle duality is a misunderstanding caused by mixing the propagation layer with the settlement layer. The wave belongs to the geometric unfolding of the open ledger during propagation, while the particle belongs to the discrete fact formed after endpoint elemental cell sealing. The whole paper finally forms a unified chain: discrete ledger opening at the source endpoint, open propagation through space units, boundary reissuance, and discrete ledger sealing at the receiving endpoint. The propagation ledger only transmits without retaining, elemental cell sealing generates the quantum, and endpoint readout manifests as the photon.

Interpretation of quantum mechanics

Benjamín de Zayas

The standard Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics relies on a set of historically established, ad hoc postulates to describe particle-wave duality, measurement, and non-locality. In this paper, we propose a single foundational axiom that fully reproduces the standard mathematical formalism of quantum mechanics while eliminating the need for supplementary assumptions. From this singular postulate, we rigorously derive the fundamental origin of the wave function and the mathematical generator of the Schrödinger equation. Furthermore, we demonstrate via isomorfism that all seemingly inexplicable quantum phenomena—including wave-function collapse and quantum entanglement—are mathematically and conceptually reducible to the underlying dynamics of the double-slit experiment. By establishing a direct fundamental correlation between the double-slit interference mechanism and the Monty Hall phenomenon, we prove that these effects are distinct manifestations of the exact same principle. We framed the double-slit experiment as an interference of the space of possibilities affected by information and simetrys. Ultimately, by anchoring the existing quantum mathematical framework to this unique axiom, this work provides a coherent, paradox-free ontological foundation that resolves the interpretational crisis of quantum mechanics without altering its empirical predictive power.

A Structural-Origin Explanation of Quantization and the Minimal Action Principle: Existence Layers, Identity Protection, and the Emergence of Planck's Constant

Li, JW

The quantization of action, discrete energy levels, and finite phase-space resolution are among the most fundamental yet conceptually opaque features of quantum physics. In standard theory, the universal constant is introduced empirically, and canonical quantization rules are postulated without deeper ontological justification. In this work we present a first-principles derivation of quantization based on the Structural Unified Field (SUF) framework. By treating physical entities as layered “existence objects” characterized by a boundary parameter and an existence function , we argue that structural identity requires a minimal nonzero layer separation . This structural irreducibility implies a universal minimal distinguishability in all attribute domains, which, when projected into phase space, yields a minimal phase-space cell and thus a universal minimal action unit. Upon mapping to physical units, this structural minimal action corresponds to Planck’s constant . The SUF interpretation thereby promotes quantization from an empirical postulate to a necessary consequence of the ontological geometry of existence. The resulting framework naturally accounts for discrete spectra, uncertainty relations, action quantization, canonical commutation relations, topological quantization phenomena, and the universality of . We discuss broader implications for the foundations of quantum theory, the quantum–gravity interface, and potential avenues for testing structural deviations.

The Structure of Time: Complex-Time Theory and the Derivation of Quantum Mechanics from Temporal Ontology

Toru Ishibashi

We present complex-time (CT) theory, a framework in which the fundamental structures of quantum mechanics are derived from three physical postulates concerning the internal structure of time. The postulates are: (P1) physical time possesses two orthogonal components — past-fixed (pf), representing actualized, irreversible records, and future-pending (fp), representing physically real but undetermined possibilities; (P2) pf and fp are orthogonal (pf fp); and (P3) the total temporal magnitude is conserved (pf + fp = 1). From these three postulates alone, we show that: (i) the state space is the unit circle and the dynamical group is , so that the imaginary unit arises as the unique generator of temporal evolution — not as a mathematical convenience but as a consequence of temporal geometry; (ii) the Schrödinger equation follows from the identification of energy with the rate of phase rotation in the pf–fp plane, with the Planck constant playing the role of a natural constant intrinsic to the pf/fp structure; (iii) the de Broglie–Einstein relation holds universally — for massive and massless particles alike — because the wave structure belongs to time itself, not to any particular particle; (iv) the uncertainty principle is a geometric consequence of the impossibility of fully eliminating fp while preserving ; (v) the complex structure of Hilbert space, the inner product, and the Born rule all follow from the geometry of fp pf projection; and (vi) energy quantization emerges from a “real-axis sampling” rule without imposing discreteness on the underlying dynamics. We further show that the CT framework provides unified descriptions of double-slit interference, quantum tunneling, unstable-state decay widths, and the structural origin of the arrow of time. Preliminary experimental predictions for quantum-circuit observables are stated, and applications to cosmological dark-energy phenomenology, galaxy rotation curves, and Lorentzian path-integral contour selection are outlined with references to dedicated companion papers. The central thesis is that quantum mechanics is not a theory of particles with mysterious wave-like properties, but a consequence of the internal structure of time — time whose wave-like phase (fp) is projected, irreversibly and discretely, onto the real axis (pf) in every act of measurement. Keywords: complex time; temporal structure; imaginary unit; quantum mechanics derivation; past-fixed / future-pending decomposition; Born rule; energy quantization; measurement; irreversibility; arrow of time

Is Quantization a Co-Operative Phenomenon? On the Ensemble Interpretation of Quantum Physics

Peter Marquardt

A fresh look at Planck's quantum, h, re-interprets action as the companion of power in a dynamic interplay of energies in a multi particle system of the micro world. An exchange of energy, δE, requires a characteristic duration, δτ, with δE and δτ tied together in a natural way. Action, the product δEδτ, must have a nonzero lower limit, h, as a classical necessity everywhere in physics. Zero h would constitute a singularity. The veritable quantum is action, not energy. Black body radiation formulas (Wien, Planck, and Rayleigh) all require this non zero h. Planck's thermodynamic approach was not consistently developed further. Einstein in his 1905 description of the photo effect chose the single "quantum of light" as statistically independent actor in radiation. The resulting discussions about the wave-particle dualism, the meaning of uncertainty, the collapse of wave packets when observed, self-interference, and related problems can be avoided by the consistent view of the ensemble interpretation. In agreement with action defined as δEδτ only co-operative phenomena produce the effects we observe. In particular, this concerns the photon, directly associated with h, as naturally interactive quantum. Careful experiments on low intensity interference suggest to take the photon out of the isolation, thus changing the general view of quantum physics with surprising consequences. Do photons transport energy or action? To understand where 20th century physics has gone a glance at the historical background is in order.

On the Dynamics of Euclidean Space–Time at the Planck Scale

Lewis Nash

In this study, a radical hypothesis concerning the wave-particle duality exhibited by extremely small objects in nature is explored by developing a Planck lattice model of space–time that grapples with the uncertain dynamic quantum structure of space–time at the Planck scale. Upon applying the Planck lattice model to two notable experiments that most clearly demonstrate the essence of wave-particle duality, one immediately finds that it successfully shows in a relatively straightforward and physically consistent manner how parcels of matter and energy, i.e., electrons and photons, respectively, can behave like waves. The heuristic concepts regarding the underlying structure of space–time contained herein are intended to show the classical particle description of matter and energy as fundamental, while at the same time doing away with the widely held notion of a continuous space–time.
