Non-Markovian dynamics of a three-level Λ-atom coupled to a structured reservoir: comparison between the weak and strong coupling regimes

Xing Mao Xiao, Mao-Fa Fang, Yan-Ling Li

The dynamics of a three-level Λ-atom coupled to a structured reservoir has been investigated. Comparing the Lorentzian time-dependent decay rate and population dynamics for the weak coupling regime with those for the strong coupling regime, we note that non-Markovian features exist in both regimes, but population dynamics shows fairly different behaviors. Moreover, the different positions of the two transition frequencies with respect to the structured reservoir reduces the influence of non-Markovian effects on population dynamics. Based on the non-Markovianity, we give an intuitive interpretation of the result that the non-Markovian effects have little influence on population dynamics in the weak coupling regime, but have an obvious influence in the strong coupling regime.

Control of quantum dynamics: Non-Markovianity and the speedup of the open system evolution

Ying-Jie Zhang, Yun‐Jie Xia, Heng Fan

We illustrate a scheme for implementing a non-Markovian speedup evolution of an open system weakly interacting with a controllable environment: the coupled qubit-array. By controlling the environment, for instance by choosing a judicious nearest-neighbor excitation quanta hopping strength among the qubit-array or by changing the number of qubits coupled to the quantum system, two dynamical crossovers from Markovian to non-Markovian and from no-speedup to speedup are achieved in the weak system-environment coupling regime. For the weaker system-environment coupling, the larger hopping strength (or the larger qubits number) should be tuned to drive the non-Markovian speedup evolution. Particularly, the controllable non-Markovian dynamics is the intrinsic physical reason for the speedup evolution of a quantum system.

Controlled population transfer for quantum computing in non-Markovian noise environment

Wei Cui, Zairong Xi, Yu Pan

We propose a control approach to transfer the population between selected quantum states in the non-Markovian open quantum system. This transfers, assisted by single qubit phase shift operations can generate universal logic gates for quantum computing. We find that the occupation probability behaves differently for different environmental conditions, such as the temperature and the ratio between the frequency of the quantum system of interest, and the cut-off frequency of Ohmic reservoir. We provide an active control over non-Markovian open quantum system for the quantum state engineering.
