Phase control of light amplification with dynamically irreversible pathways of population transfer in a Λ system

Yuan Shi, Jin‐Hui Wu, Jin-Yue Gao +1 more

We use the relative phase of two coherent fields for the control of light amplification with dynamically irreversible pathways of population transfer in a Λ system. The population inversion and gain with dynamically irreversible pathways of population transfer are shown as the relative phase is varied. We support our results by numerical calculation and analytical explanation.

Dynamically induced irreversibility in coherently driven systems

Krishna K. Meduri, Geoffrey A. Wilson, Peter B. Sellin +1 more

We show that continuous-wave, two color excitation of three-level atoms opens new channels of irreversible population transfer between atomic levels. We point out that dynamically induced irreversibility leads to unanticipated phenomena such as the inversion of atomic transitions in cases where the upper atomic level has no conventional source of irreversible population pumping. The widely held view that coherent excitation is reversible is called into question.

Coherent Population Transfer in a Four-Level Quasi-Lambda System Driven by Unmatched Gaussian Pulses

Xiangwei Wang

The population transfer in a four-level quasi-lambda system driven by unmatched Gaussian pulses is investigated.By using the matrix equation theory, evolutions of the populations of the four states Vs time is investigated.Numerical simulations show that the Rabi frequency intensity and detuning of pumping field have different effects on the population transfer comparing with the probe and coupling field;and spontaneously generated coherence(SGC)have little effect on population transfer. If the parameters are chosen appropriately, population can be transferred almost completely to the target state.
