Abstract

ABSTRACT We propose a scheme to realize magnon blockade in a hybrid system composed of a transmon‐type superconducting qubit directly coupled to the magnon mode of a single‐crystalline yttrium‐iron‐garnet sphere. By applying two‐tone driving to the qubit, we engineer an effective Hamiltonian for the magnon mode including both single‐magnon and two‐magnon interaction. Due to the destructive interference between two transition paths, the two‐magnon excitation is suppressed, and thus the unconventional magnon blockade can be achieved. We also demonstrate that the intrinsic anharmonicity of the qubit can be transferred to the magnon mode through their coherent hybridization, but this anharmonicity has almost no influence on the blockade effect. Through solving the second‐order correlation function analytically and numerically, we show that the scheme can be realized under experimentally feasible conditions and remains robust against system dissipations and environment temperature. Therefore, the presented work provides a viable path toward generating single‐magnon sources and advancing quantum information processing with magnonic platforms.

Dispersive-induced magnon blockade with a superconducting qubit

Zeng-Xing Liu, Yan-Hua Wu, Jing-Hua Sun

We investigate the magnon blockade effect in a quantum magnonic system operating in the strong dispersive regime, where a superconducting qubit interacts dispersively with a magnonic mode in a yttrium-iron-garnet sphere. By solving the quantum master equation, we demonstrate that the magnon blockade, characterized by the second-order correlation function g(2)(0)→0.04 , emerges under optimal dispersive coupling and driving detuning. The mechanism is attributed to suppressed two-magnon transitions as a result of qubit-induced anharmonicity. Notably, our study identifies the critical role of dispersive interaction strength and environmental temperature, showing that magnon blockade remains observable under experimentally achievable cryogenic conditions. This work extends the magnon blockade effect into the dispersive regime, offering a robust platform for single-magnon manipulation and advancing applications in quantum sensing and information processing.

Magnon blockade with skyrmion qubit-magnon coupling in a hybrid quantum system

Si-Tong Jin, Shi-Wen He, Zi‐Long Yang +2 more

Abstract Magnon blockade (MB) is a fundamental quantum phenomenon for generating single-magnon states, and has gradually become one of the candidates for quantum information processing. We extend existing blockade optimization schemes to a hybrid system consisting of a YIG micromagnet and a skyrmion, and propose a theoretical scheme for achieving MB on this platform. Under weak magnon probing and external driving of the skyrmion qubit, the second-order correlation function is analytically derived, and the optimal parameter conditions for both conventional and unconventional MB are identified. By appropriately adjusting the intensities of the driving and probing fields, the MB effect is significantly enhanced, multi-magnon excitations are effectively suppressed, and strong antibunching is achieved. Further analysis reveals that MB originates from two distinct physical mechanisms: conventional blockade induced by anharmonicity of the energy level structure, and unconventional blockade arising from quantum interference between different transition paths. On this platform, the two mechanisms coexist and can be synergistically controlled, and their cooperation yields a blockade effect superior to that of either mechanism alone. This work thus provides a feasible theoretical scheme for the effective manipulation of MB effects.

Quantum-interference-enhanced magnon blockade in an yttrium-iron-garnet sphere coupled to superconducting circuits

Ji-kun Xie, Sheng-li Ma, Fuli Li

We study the generation of a magnon blockade in a single-crystalline yttrium-iron-garnet (YIG) sphere coupled to a three-dimensional superconducting microwave resonator that interacts with a superconducting qubit. Based on the indirect coupling between the Kittel mode of YIG and the superconducting qubit mediated by the virtual photon excitation in the microwave cavity, we propose two different mechanisms for observing the magnon blockade effect in the ferromagnetic sphere. The first one is to use the strong anharmonicity of the dressed states of the coupled qubit-magnon system. However, the strong magnon antibunching can only be achieved under the strong-coupling regime. To relax this constraint, we propose another quantum interference method to produce and enhance the magnon blockade effect with the moderate-coupling strength. By optimizing the relative phase and the strength ratio of the external driving fields applied to the YIG and qubit, we show that the much stronger magnon antibunching with significantly increased steady-state mean magnon numbers can be realized by the destructive interference for the two-magnon excitation.

Quantum-interference-induced magnon blockade and antibunching in a hybrid quantum system

Pooja Kumari Gupta, Sampreet Kalita, Amarendra K. Sarma

In this work, we study the phenomena of quantum-interference-assisted magnon blockade and magnon antibunching in a weakly interacting hybrid ferromagnet-superconductor system. The magnon excitations in two yttrium iron garnet spheres are indirectly coupled to a superconducting qubit through microwave cavity modes of two mutually perpendicular cavities. We find that when one of the magnon modes is driven by a weak microwave field, the destructive interference between more than two distinct transition pathways restricts the simultaneous excitation of two magnons. We analyze the magnon correlations in the driven magnon mode for the case of zero detunings as well as finite detunings of the magnon modes and the qubit. We show that the magnon antibunching can be tuned by changing the magnon-qubit coupling strength ratio and the driving detuning. Our work proposes a possible scheme that has a significant role in the construction of single magnon generating devices.

Perfect Single‐Magnon Generator Based on a Hybrid Cavity‐Magnonic System

Shi‐Yan Li, Ai‐Dong Zhu

Abstract A theoretical scheme for a single‐magnon generator based on a hybrid cavity‐magnonic system, in which a microwave cavity is coupled to the magnetostatic mode through the magnetic dipole interaction and coupled to a superconducting qubit (transmon) through electric dipole interaction, and the virtual excitation of microwave photons mediates the interaction between the magnon mode and the transmon qubit, is proposed. The magnon blockade effect is studied based on the coexistence mechanism of anharmonicity of energy levels and multipath interference, and a global optimal condition of magnon blockade is obtained. The numerical results with accessible experimental parameters demonstrate that under this global optimal condition, a perfect single‐magnon generator with a second‐order correlation function tends to zero and a higher single‐magnon number can be achieved even at ambient temperature up to 25 mK. The current scheme is proposed based on the lithographically scalable and superconducting circuit compatible design, which provides convenience for precisely and flexibly engineering in experiments. It is expected to be used as an integrated single‐quanta generator in quantum network.
