Abstract

Quantum Mechanics from the 600-Cell: Measurement, Collapse, and the Born Rule Solved Pentagon Physics Programme Paper 36 This paper argues that the measurement problem in quantum mechanics is not a dynamical problem but a geometric one, and solves it accordingly. The physical state space is the 600-cell, a four-dimensional regular polytope with 120 vertices whose coordinates all lie in ℚ(√5). The 600-cell is not postulated. It is derived from the self-referential axiom σ = 1/(1+σ) via E₈, as established in earlier papers in this series. A 3D observer is by definition a hyperplane in ℝ⁴. Measurement is the 4D state touching that hyperplane. Measurement is therefore projection — not by assumption or analogy, but by definition. Given a 4D state space and a 3D observer, no other operation is geometrically available. From this, six results follow: The Born rule is not a postulate. It is the projection identity |⟨m|ψ⟩|² = 1 − v₄², automatic from the Pythagorean theorem once the state space is the 600-cell. The squaring is forced by Gleason's theorem: the quadratic form is the unique consistent probability measure on subspaces of dimension ≥ 3. The mean Born probability is exactly 3/4. By the spherical symmetry of S³, each coordinate has expected square 1/4. The three visible coordinates account for 3/4 of the state. The hidden fraction is exactly 1/4. This is the same 3/4 : 1/4 partition that appears in the Spiral Engine as the hydrogen-to-helium transmission ratio — the same geometric fact at two levels of the sublimation hierarchy. Hilbert space is the coordinate system. The 600-cell is the geometry. ℂ² is ℝ⁴ with complex bookkeeping. Every approach that worked within ℂⁿ without identifying the 600-cell was handling the right evidence inside the wrong frame. Superposition, collapse, wave-particle duality, and entanglement all dissolve. Superposition is what a 3D observer describes when the fourth coordinate is inaccessible. Collapse is not a process — it is a definite 4D vertex seen from ℝ³. Entanglement is shared structure in the fourth coordinate, locally present in the geometry, non-local only from inside three dimensions. Quantum mechanics is entirely a fourth-dimension phenomenon seen from inside three. The path integral is finite. The Dirac–Frenkel action restricted to the 600-cell is a sum over 720 edges, all weights in ℚ(√5). It converges without regularisation. QFT divergences are artefacts of a continuous state space that was never the correct object. The VAC/σ² cell in the Constants Table is identified. The coherence floor φ⁶ is derived from the 600-cell's angular structure: six steps of π/5 close the signed inner-product cycle. The 600-cell is the second geometric mode. Five falsification conditions are given. The sharpest: if any experiment specifically engineered to prepare and probe states with full icosahedral symmetry in four dimensions yields measurement probabilities outside {0, (5−√5)/8, 3/4, (5+√5)/8, 1}, the framework fails. No such experiment has been performed. No laboratory has been looking for it. Quantum Mechanics Is a Shadow

Eric McLean

Quantum Mechanics Is a Shadow The Born Rule, the Observer, and the Fourth Dimension Pentagon Physics Programme Paper 37 A two-page paper deriving the Born rule from geometry, without new postulates beyond the self-referential axiom σ = 1/(1+σ) established in earlier papers in this series. The central observation is that a 3D observer is by definition a hyperplane in ℝ⁴. If the physical state space is four-dimensional, measurement cannot be anything other than projection from ℝ⁴ to ℝ³. This is not an analogy or an assumption. It is what observation means for a 3D being in a 4D state space. The question "why is measurement projection?" has no content. The geometry fixes it entirely. From this, the Born rule follows in three steps. The projection identity |proj(v)|² = 1 − v₄² is Pythagoras, a theorem not a postulate. Gleason's theorem forces the quadratic form as the unique self-consistent probability measure on subspaces of dimension ≥ 3. The spherical symmetry of S³ gives the mean Born probability as exactly 3/4, with 1/4 carried in the inaccessible fourth coordinate. The standard quantum mysteries are consequences of observing a 4D geometry from inside three dimensions. Superposition is a 3D description of a definite 4D vertex whose fourth coordinate is inaccessible. Collapse is not a process; it is a definite vertex touching a hyperplane. Wave-particle duality is the same vertex presenting different projections to differently oriented measurement subspaces. Entanglement is shared structure in the fourth coordinate, locally present in the geometry, non-local only from inside ℝ³. The paper is explicit about what it does not claim. It addresses measurement, not dynamics. Interference and complex phases belong to state evolution, a separate problem. The self-referential axiom replaces the Born postulate one-for-one; the gain is that the axiom generates the 600-cell, the dimensional structure, and the probability rule as theorems, where Born's postulate generates nothing. Bell's theorem rules out local hidden variable theories; v₄ is not a local hidden variable. For entangled pairs the correlation is encoded in joint 4D geometry inaccessible to either 3D observer, placing this framework in the same category as Bohmian mechanics. Multi-particle systems are not addressed. And: removing the paradox is not the same as solving the problem. Superposition and entanglement may carry richer structure than the present geometric framework has yet reached. The 600-cell is derived, not postulated, in the E₈ paper (doi:10.5281/zenodo.18901979). Entanglement Does Not Exist

Eric McLean

Entanglement Does Not Exist — It Is 4D Geometry Misread by 3D Observers Quantum mechanics works perfectly. Every Bell test has been done correctly. The experiments are not in question. The interpretation is wrong. The four great mysteries of quantum mechanics — entanglement, wave-particle duality, the measurement problem, and non-locality — are not phenomena. They are what a three-dimensional observer sees when intersecting a four-dimensional geometric object they cannot fully perceive. The shadows differ. The object does not. This paper identifies the state space of quantum mechanics as the 600-cell: a regular four-dimensional polytope with 120 vertices, forced by the single axiom σ = 1/(1+σ) with zero free parameters. The Born rule becomes automatic projection geometry. Collapse does not occur. Measurement is a 3D hyperplane intersecting a 4D state. The central result is a genuine mathematical discovery. The 600-cell contains exactly 60 orthogonal spinor pairs {v, jv}, where j is the quaternion unit and jv denotes left multiplication of vertex v by j within the binary icosahedral group 2I. For every one of these 60 pairs, the antisymmetric combination |v⟩|jv⟩ − |jv⟩|v⟩ equals √2·|ψ⁻⟩ exactly — the singlet state of quantum mechanics, with a uniform coefficient, verified algebraically across all 120 vertices of the 600-cell. The singlet is not imported from quantum theory and mapped onto the geometry. It is there, in the geometry, forced by the group structure of 2I, prior to any quantum formalism. Bell's theorem is correct and every Bell experiment is correctly interpreted. What fails is factorizability — the assumption that the joint probability P(a,b|A,B,λ) decomposes as P(a|A,λ)×P(b|B,λ). This requires λ to split into two independent local states. In the 4D geometry, λ = (v, jv) is one indivisible geometric object. It cannot be split because jv is entirely determined by v. There are not two local ontologies. There is one 4D state with two projections. The correlations were always in the geometry. No signal was ever required. An appendix lists all 60 orthogonal spinor pairs explicitly, with coordinates in ℚ(√5), independently verifiable by anyone with a computer algebra system in under five minutes. The paradox was in the projection. The geometry was always local.

The Schrödinger equation as self-referential flow on the 600-cell

Eric McLean

Titles: Why Schrödinger - The Schrödinger equation as self-referential flow on the 600-cell Description: The Schrödinger equation is the dynamical law of quantum mechanics. It has been tested to extraordinary precision and has never been derived from deeper first principles within standard physics. This paper derives it from the self-referential axiom σ = 1/(1+σ), the same equation that produces the fine structure constant, Newton's constant, and the cosmological constant in the companion paper "Why General Relativity and Quantum Mechanics Are Unified" (doi:10.5281/zenodo.19056730). The axiom forces a four-dimensional state space whose discrete realisation is the 600-cell, a polytope with 120 vertices on S³ ⊂ ℝ⁴. The adjacency matrix is the canonical symmetric nearest-neighbour Hamiltonian. Its spectrum has nine distinct eigenvalues, all in ℚ(√5), partitioned into a φ-free confined sector (integers: 12, 3, 0, −2, −3) and a φ-carrying free sector (irrationals forming two Galois conjugate pairs). The Schrödinger equation iℏ ∂ψ/∂t = Aψ is the unitary flow generated by this Hamiltonian. The imaginary unit is forced by the pentagonal rotation and Stone's theorem. Planck's constant is quantised because the state space is discrete and the shortest loop has finite length. The Born rule is reduced to a geometric postulate: measurement is projection from ℝ⁴ to ℝ³ (the maximal proper subspace), and Gleason's theorem forces the unique quadratic probability measure. Five probability classes emerge, discretising the Born measure into values determined by φ and √5. The path integral converges exactly on the finite state space with no ultraviolet divergence and no renormalisation. Scope: single-particle, non-relativistic quantum mechanics on a discrete state space. Zero free parameters. This is the second dynamical test of the Pentagon Physics programme. The first (doi:10.5281/zenodo.19115512) tests Friedmann dynamics. Quantum Mechanics Derived from GG-Theory as Projection from 6D Bulk to 4D Boundary

K. Arisaka

For a century, quantum mechanics has been the most accurately tested theory ever written — and the least understood. It predicts the electron's magnetism to one part in ten trillion, yet no one can quite say why a measurement yields a single definite result, why outcomes appear random, or why two particles far apart are correlated more tightly than any classical theory allows. This paper offers one reading of all three. The deeper description of Nature, we propose, is six-dimensional: ordinary spacetime plus two non-spatial geometric directions — a scale dimension, carrying the resolution at which a question is asked, and a phase dimension, carrying the gauge phase that locks matter to force. In that fuller geometry the underlying state is deterministic and constitutionally real, as Einstein hoped — with no complex phase for quantum chance to be written in; it is not, as Bell's theorem requires of any such theory, local. What a four-dimensional observer sees is its projection; every measurement is unavoidably an average over the two hidden directions — the averaging a century of physics has called collapse. Read this way, the century-old measurement problem becomes three precise questions, each answered by a theorem, and one further question — why outcomes fall in exactly the proportions Born's rule predicts — whose dynamical realization is closed at the relaxation level, as a stated conditional theorem, with one named analytic step remaining. We claim no new laboratory prediction where quantum mechanics already succeeds; we offer a picture in which its deepest strangeness is the shape of a shadow, and the dice — rolled in an imaginary unit made by the same projection — are thrown in two directions our senses can never turn to face. Coherence Relativity I: Coherence Frames, Frame Invariance, and the Born Rule

Bryan L. Kaufman

We propose that the quantum measurement problem is a frame problem, resolved by recognizing that coherence is relative to a choice of coherence frame—analogous to the relativity of simultaneity in special relativity. We introduce coherence relativity, a geometric framework in which physical reality is described on a joint manifold M×Σ, where M is emergent spacetime and Σ is a coherence manifold whose points represent distinct observational perspectives. In this framework, wave function collapse is not a dynamical process but a transformation between coherence frames induced by measurement interactions. We present a derivation of the Born rule—that measurement probabilities equal squared amplitudes—as the unique probability measure invariant under coherence-frame relabelings and splittings, given additivity and continuity. This derivation unifies insights from Gleason's theorem, Zurek's envariance, and operational reconstruction programs within a single geometric structure. We demonstrate the framework with the double-slit experiment in two coherence frames and identify six experimentally testable signatures distinguishing Coherence Relativity from standard quantum mechanics: non-linear visibility scaling, frame-transformation hysteresis, coherence-space curvature effects, modified gravitational decoherence, measurable transformation timescales, and coherence revival. The most accessible predictions—erasure hysteresis and transformation timescales—are testable with current superconducting qubit and trapped ion platforms. v4 (April 2026): Adds three new paradox resolutions (Quantum Zeno with D_f completion interpretation, Sleeping Beauty via CR-internal derivation from axioms A1+A3, and a unifying meta-theorem characterizing all quantum paradoxes as non-Born-compliant frame transport). Introduces Prediction 7 (Zeno/anti-Zeno crossover at τ_meas ≈ τ_transform with pointer-basis dependence). Total experimentally testable signatures increased from six to seven. 21 pages.

PREPRINT: The Measurement Problem is Geometry A Derivation of the Born Rule, Collapse, Decoherence, and the Preferred Basis from Scale Space

Koenig, Andy, Karma

ABSTRACTThe measurement problem is the longest-standing unresolved foundational issue in quantum mechanics. The Born rule is postulated. Collapse isassumed. Decoherence is explained environmentally but does not produce collapse. The preferred basis is arbitrary. This paper solves the measurement problem using the scale dimension from Geometric Essentialism (Koenig 2026a). The fullwavefunction lives in 5D: spacetime plus scale . The scale measure defines the inner product. Observers are not points but narrow Gaussiansin with width , where s is the brain's alpha rhythm (the "present moment" refresh rate). From these ingredients, we derive:1. The Born rule: (up to normalization) follows from the -weighted inner product and the observer's -localization. Notpostulated.2. Decoherence: When different branches of the wavefunction are separated in by more than the observer's width, the interference term vanishes. Noenvironment needed. Scale geometry does it.3. Collapse: The observer only experiences the branch that overlaps their -slice. Projection is not physical collapse — it's conditional experience. Thefull 5D wavefunction remains unitary.4. Preferred basis: The eigenfunctions of the scale Laplacian (the scaleons) are naturally localized in . Measurements project onto scaleon numberstates.5. The observer's width: . This is derived from the 42 constant: , where Hz is the alpharhythm.6. Why matters: The observer cannot be at because the probability density vanishes there (the graviton node). The observer is offset, and that offset enables the Born rule.7. Consciousness: The ability to maintain coherent -localization at 10 Hz is proposed as the physical substrate of conscious awareness. Theinterthalamic adhesion (ITA) is the candidate resonator. The Mirror Test (ITA version) is a falsifiable prediction. The measurement problem is not a problem. It is geometry.
