A Structural Theory of Admissibility

Abstract

This paper proposes a structural framework in which physical laws and quantum probability emerge from a common admissibility principle, rather than from the unification of dynamical equations. No new forces, fields, particles, or dynamical laws are introduced.Instead, a universal structural constraint governing which states are admissible as physically realizable is identified. Building on results established in Admissibility Frameworks I and II, the existence of a universal frame constant limiting allowable transitions is taken as a starting point. From this principle, an equation of existence is formulated, which does not describe time evolution but instead delineates the boundary between admissible and non-admissible states.Different physical interactions are shown to correspond to distinct structural interpretations of the same admissibility condition. Within this framework, quantum states are interpreted not as probability amplitudes but as admissibility distributions.Measurement is described as structural filtering at the admissibility boundary, rather than as a dynamical collapse process.Under minimal and physically natural assumptions—phase invariance, orthogonal additivity, and locality—the admissibility measure is shown to be uniquely quadratic, yielding the Born rule as a structural consequence rather than a postulate. The resulting theory reframes unification as the closure of existence conditions shared by all physical theories.Dynamics remain domain-specific, but admissibility is universal. In this sense, unification is achieved not by combining forces, but by identifying the single structural condition under which any physical state may exist. Structural Closure and Admissibility in Physical Theory A Constraint-Based Framework for Foundational Consistency

Nathan Scott Brown

Foundational problems in physics—including quantum measurement, spacetime emergence, gravitational dynamics, nonlocality, the arrow of time, and the status of physical existence—are typically addressed in isolation, via model-dependent extensions or interpretive assumptions. This work proposes a different approach. We introduce a constraint-based framework, the Closure Admissibility Principle (CAP), which specifies minimal structural conditions any physical description must satisfy in order to be globally consistent. CAP is formulated in operational terms, using admissibility of states, recoverability under refinement, and stability of closed records, without assuming spacetime, dynamics, or ontology a priori. We show that enforcing these constraints induces a unifying closure structure on law-space, from which several persistent foundational puzzles are resolved as structural consequences rather than postulates. In particular, collapse is reclassified as record selection, spacetime and gravity emerge only in compressible regimes, General Relativity appears as an infrared universality class rather than a fundamental law, singularities correspond to failures of admissible description, and null (“nothing”) models are excluded as inadmissible fixed points. The framework is explicitly falsifiable via operational and weak-field tests, and its scope and limits are stated precisely. The results suggest that many foundational paradoxes arise not from incomplete dynamics, but from admitting globally incoherent physical descriptions.

Principal of Admissible Correlation

Ethan Brooke

Physical law is usually formulated as a set of dynamical rules acting on states within a fixed space of possibilities. This work argues that a more primitive constraint precedes dynamics: the restriction on which correlations and distinctions may meaningfully exist at all. The paper introduces the Admissibility–Entropy Structure (AES), a pre-geometric framework that cleanly separates admissibility (what correlations are possible) from entropy (finite correlation capacity) and probability (conditional statistical description). Within AES, entropy measures correlation capacity rather than likelihood, probability is defined only where multiple admissible alternatives coexist, and realizable correlation between regions is bounded by the minimal separating interface. Spacetime geometry, locality, and causal structure are shown to arise as effective representations of these constraints, rather than as fundamental ingredients. No new dynamics, entities, or probabilistic postulates are introduced. The framework yields sharp and non-negotiable discriminators: probability without entropy, geometry without capacity, and unlimited correlation are forbidden in principle. By isolating the invariant constraints that underwrite meaningful physical description, this work provides a minimal foundation for thermodynamics, quantum theory, and spacetime structure, clarifying their conceptual order without modifying established physical laws. Part I A Structural Closure of Physical Description

Ethan Brooke

This paper introduces a constraint-first framework for physical law based on a single structural requirement: that distinctions and correlations be enforceable without contradiction under finite capacity. Rather than proposing new dynamics, entities, or microscopic mechanisms, the work reframes foundational questions in physics by asking a prior question—under what conditions is physical description itself possible? Central to the framework is the recognition that correlation enforcement cannot be unlimited. From this finiteness follows a notion of admissibility, separating correlation structures that can be jointly realized from those that are structurally incoherent, independent of probability or dynamics. Geometry, time, entropy, and global state descriptions are treated not as universal primitives, but as regime-dependent representations that emerge when enforcement constraints can be smoothly distributed—and fail when they cannot. Within this perspective, long-standing foundational puzzles—such as the arrow of time, entropy bounds, horizon paradoxes, and the breakdown of global descriptions—are reinterpreted as signals of regime mismatch rather than failures of physical law. Apparent paradoxes arise when descriptive tools are extrapolated beyond the regimes in which their enforcement is possible. The paper is deliberately pre-dynamical. It does not modify quantum mechanics or general relativity, nor does it derive specific equations or predictions. Its contribution is structural: to articulate the minimal conditions that any coherent physical description must satisfy, and to clarify why familiar physical structures appear where they do, persist where they can, and fail where they must. This work serves as the conceptual foundation for a companion technical paper that formalizes admissibility and finite correlation capacity as a calculus. Together, the papers aim to delineate the boundary between meaningful physical description and questions that cannot be consistently posed. About the series. APF Paper 5 — Quantum Structure from Finite Enforceability

Ethan Brooke

Admissibility Physics — Quantum Structure from Finite Enforceability (Paper 5) This Zenodo community collects research outputs associated with Admissibility Physics, with primary focus on Paper 5 — Quantum Structure from Finite Enforceability and the derivation of quantum mechanics as an admissible representational regime. Paper 5 shows that the mathematical structure of quantum mechanics—Hilbert space, linearity, inner products, tensor products, unitary evolution, CPTP maps, and the Born rule—is not postulated, but forced by admissibility once coherent, jointly enforceable distinctions exist under finite correlation capacity. Quantum structure emerges as the unique bookkeeping required to represent interference, refinement, and recombination while preserving admissibility. The derivation does not assume probability, measurement postulates, dynamics, or spacetime geometry. Probability enters only as a secondary representation, with the Born rule arising uniquely from admissibility invariance and refinement consistency. Measurement is treated as a regime transition associated with saturation and record formation, not as a fundamental collapse mechanism. Quantum mechanics is shown to be conditionally valid: exact in regimes where coherence and non-saturation permit admissible composition, and structurally inapplicable where capacity is exhausted. Monogamy, entanglement limits, and decoherence follow from non-closure under composition and finite interface capacity, rather than from quantum axioms. All subsequent works in this community rely on the quantum-admissible representation established in Paper 5. Later papers show how variational dynamics and spacetime geometry arise as further conditional representations layered on top of quantum structure, and how quantum description itself fails at saturation boundaries, horizons, and measurement-like events. This community serves as a curated, citable archive centered on the derivation and limits of quantum structure within Admissibility Physics. Paper 5 functions as the representational keystone of the program: the point at which finite enforceability yields the quantum formalism without postulation. Core papers are frozen where noted; companion papers, mathematical appendices, figures, and computational artifacts document derivations, regime conditions, and testable consequences.

Agency Beyond Pure Unitarity: Closure-Stable Decision, Probability Rigidity, and the Limits of Purely Quantum Models

Jeremy Rodgers

What are the physical conditions required for agency?Recent work has rigorously shown that purely unitary, coherence-preserving quantum dynamics are insufficient to support deliberation, comparison of counterfactual actions, and reliable action selection. These results establish a genuine no-go theorem for agency in a strictly quantum-coherent regime. This paper provides a structural completion of that no-go result. Rather than challenging its correctness, the analysis identifies the underlying assumption on which it rests: that unitarity alone is sufficient as an admissibility criterion for decision endpoints. We show that this assumption is incomplete.Working within the Tier-0 closure framework, physical lawfulness is characterized by closure-stable fixed points selected by structural constraints rather than by unconstrained dynamical evolution. Within this framework, coherent quantum states may function as intermediate computational or representational states but are excluded as lawful endpoints for records, decisions, and control.Applying closure stability to quantum systems yields a classical decision subspace without introducing new dynamics, observer-dependent postulates, or interpretation-specific assumptions. The paper further shows that agency requires a closure-stable internal selection process capable of consistent expected-utility comparison. Imposing closure compatibility rigidly fixes the standard quadratic Born probability rule as the only weighting compatible with stability, representation-independence, and admissibility-preserving re-expression.Together, these results integrate agency into the same structural framework that accounts for quantum measurement and probability. The absence of agency in purely quantum-coherent models is shown to reflect an under-constrained admissibility regime rather than a fundamental limitation of quantum theory. Lawful agency emerges as a closure-stable property of coupled agent–world dynamics, fully consistent with standard quantum mechanics. This work clarifies the physical limits of purely quantum models of decision, sharpens existing no-go arguments, and provides a mathematically explicit foundation for agency grounded in structural admissibility rather than interpretation. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18028427

The Structural Origin of the Born Rule: Rigidity of the Quantum Probability Exponent

Rodgers, Jeremy

This work provides a structural derivation of the quadratic form of the Born rule in quantum mechanics. Rather than postulating the probability rule as a foundational axiom, the paper proves that the exponent governing quantum probabilities is uniquely fixed by stability, contractivity, and duality requirements imposed on admissible physical laws. The analysis is carried out within a general operator-theoretic and law-space framework, in which physical laws are treated as fixed points of recursive generative dynamics. By combining strict contractive flow (Kappa Law), topological rigidity (Law of Endogenous Constraint), and algebra–geometry duality (Monad Duality), the paper demonstrates that only the Hilbert–Schmidt geometry is compatible with global stability of law evolution. As a consequence, the quadratic probability rule emerges as a rigid structural invariant rather than a free modeling choice. The result implies that any hypothetical modification of quantum theory based on non-quadratic probability rules would necessarily violate at least one of the fundamental structural requirements of admissible physical law, such as uniform contractivity, spectral stability, or duality consistency. This work builds directly on the operator-theoretic resolution of quantum measurement: “A Complete Operator-Theoretic Resolution of the Quantum Measurement Problem” (DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.17823241), and on the generative law framework introduced in: “The Tier-0 Framework and the Everything Equation: A Universal Recursion Law for Physics, Mathematics, and Information” (DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.17813117).See also: The Tier–Omega Monad: Trans-Recursive Completion of the Everything Equation (DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.17859631), which establishes the unique trans-recursive invariant that terminates all possible meta-law recursion and completes the Everything Equation. This work provides the structural boundary underlying the entire framework developed in the associated papers. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.17864384

Admissibility Physics derives the Standard Model gauge group, fermion content, quantum formalism, Lorentzian spacetime, the Einstein field equations, the cosmological constant, and the neutrino, strong-CP, and dark sectors from a single assumption — that enforcement is finite at every causally connected region — with zero free parameters. The core derivation runs Papers 0–11; the extension papers carry the individual sectors. Each paper's main text and Technical Supplement is deposited separately, and every quantitative claim traces to a named, executable check in the public theorem bank (over 3,800 bank-registered theorems across roughly 450 modules, 48 quantitative predictions).
