Physical Layer Secrecy Performance Analysis Over Gamma-Shadowed Two-Wave With Diffuse Power Composite Fading Channels

Abstract

In this paper, the physical layer secrecy performance of the classical Wyner wiretap channel with gamma-shadowed two-wave with diffuse power (GS-TWDP) composite fading is investigated. A closed-form expression for the average secrecy capacity (ASC) is derived, assuming that the transmitter dynamically adapts its transmission rate based on the available channel state information (CSI) of both the legitimate receiver and the eavesdropper. The derived expression is validated through Monte Carlo simulations and used to conduct a detailed analysis of the impact of shadowing and multipath severity on ASC. To further enhance secrecy performance in GS-TWDP fading environments, an optimal power allocation strategy is also designed and integrated with rate adaptation. The resulting secrecy performance is compared to that achieved using only rate adaptation, providing insight into the effectiveness of the joint power/rate adaptation strategy under varying composite fading conditions.

Secrecy Outage Performance Analysis over Composite Gamma-Shadowed Two-Ray with Diffuse Power Fading Channels

Pamela Njemčević, Almir Marić

In this paper, we analyze the secrecy outage performance of the classical Wyner’s model, where both the legitimate receiver and the eavesdropper experience gamma-shadowed two-wave with diffuse power (GS-TWDP) composite fading. We derive expressions for the lower bound of the secrecy outage probability (SOP) and the probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC) in terms of Meijer’s G-function, which can be efficiently implemented in MATLAB® and MATHEMATICA®. The derived expressions are validated through Monte Carlo simulations and used to perform detailed analysis of the impact of shadowing and multipath severity on secrecy outage performance in channels with composite fading.

On the Secrecy Capacity of Fisher-Snedecor F Fading Channels

Osamah S. Badarneh, Paschalis C. Sofotasios, Sami Muhaidat +3 more

The performance of physical-layer security of the classic Wyner's wiretap model over Fisher-Snedecor F composite fading channels is considered in this work. Specifically, the main channel (i.e., between the source and the legitimate destination) and the eavesdropper's channel (i.e., between the source and the illegitimate destination) are assumed to experience independent quasi-static Fisher-Snedecor F fading conditions, which have been shown to be encountered in realistic wireless transmission scenarios in conventional and emerging communication systems. In this context, exact closed-form expressions for the average secrecy capacity (ASC) and the probability of non-zero secrecy capacity (PNSC) are derived. Additionally, an asymptotic analytical expression for the ASC is presented. The impact of shadowing and multipath fading on the secrecy performance is investigated. Our results show that increasing the fading parameter of the main channel and/or the shadowing parameter of the eavesdropper's channel improves the secrecy performance. The analytical results are compared with Monte-Carlo simulations to validate the analysis.

Secrecy Capacity of Physical Layer over $\kappa-\mu$ /Gamma Composite Fading Channel

Rupender Singh, Meenakshi Rawat

Rapid developments of the emerging wireless network applications such as 5G, IoT and device-to-device (D2D) systems raise the diversity of challenges in physical layer security (PLS). In the present work, we examine Wyner's wiretap composite multipath/shadowing fading channel model and provide analysis for PLS secrecy performance. We consider a generic single-input and single-output (SISO) system where both the main and eavesdropper channels are modeled by κ-μ /gamma composite fading channel. In particular, the lower bound of secure outage probability (SOPL) and strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC) are obtained in closed-form. We also conduct the analysis for average secrecy capacity (ASC) in heavy shadowing and derive analytical expression in closed-form.

Secrecy Analysis of Physical Layer over $κ-μ$ Shadowed Fading Scenarios

Hussien Al‐Hmood, Hamed Saffa Al-Raweshidy

In this paper, the secrecy analysis of physical layer when both the main and wiretap channels undergo $κ-μ$ shadowed fading channel is investigated. In particular, the average secrecy capacity (ASC), secure outage probability (SOP), the lower bound of SOP (SOP$^L$), and the probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC) are derived by using the classic Wyner's wiretap model. Two different scenarios for the fading parameters, i.e., $μ$ and $m$ which represents the shadowing impact have been studied. These parameters are chosen first as arbitrary numbers, thus the performance metrics are expressed in single infinite series with multivariate Meijer $G$-function. In the second scenario, both the aforementioned fading parameters are assumed to be integer numbers in order to obtain the derived results in simple exact closed-form analytic mathematically tractable expressions. The numerical results of this analysis are verified via Monte Carlo simulations.

Achievable Physical-Layer Security Over Composite Fading Channels

Osamah S. Badarneh, Paschalis C. Sofotasios, Sami Muhaidat +3 more

We investigate the physical layer security limits of Wyner's wiretap model over Fisher-Snedecor .T composite fading channels. .T fading conditions have been recently shown to provide an accurate characterization of multipath fading and shadowing effects in emerging wireless transmission scenarios such as body centric, cellular and vehicular communications. To this end, we utilize a redefined analytic expression for the Fisher-Snedecor .T distribution in order to ensure unconstrained validity and reliability when used in the analysis of various performance metrics of interest. In this context, we assume that the main channel (i.e., between the source and the legitimate destination) and the eavesdropper's channel (i.e., between the source and the illegitimate destination) undergo independent quasi-static Fisher-Snedecor .T composite fading. Novel exact analytic expressions are then derived for the corresponding average secrecy capacity (ASC), secure outage probability (SOP) and probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC) along with their insightful asymptotic representations. In addition, analytical expressions for the ASC, SOP and SPSC over mixed fading channels such as Nakagami-m/Nakagami-m, Nakagami-m/Fisher-Snedecor .T and Fisher-Snedecor .T/Nakagami-m are derived. The new formulations are validated through comparisons with Monte-Carlo simulations and analyzed to gain useful insights into the impact of the fading parameters on the achievable accuracy and the overall system performance.

Performance Analysis of Physical Layer Security Over Generalized-$K$ Fading Channels Using a Mixture Gamma Distribution

Hongjiang Lei, Huan Zhang, Imran Shafique Ansari +4 more

In this letter, the secrecy performance of the classic Wyner's wiretap model over generalized-K fading channels is studied. The closed-form expressions for the average secrecy capacity, secure outage probability, and the probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity are derived. The new expressions provide a unified form, which can handle several of the well-known composite fading environments as special or limiting cases. Monte-Carlo simulations are performed to verify the proposed analysis models.
