Abstract

Rapid developments of the emerging wireless network applications such as 5G, IoT and device-to-device (D2D) systems raise the diversity of challenges in physical layer security (PLS). In the present work, we examine Wyner's wiretap composite multipath/shadowing fading channel model and provide analysis for PLS secrecy performance. We consider a generic single-input and single-output (SISO) system where both the main and eavesdropper channels are modeled by κ-μ /gamma composite fading channel. In particular, the lower bound of secure outage probability (SOPL) and strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC) are obtained in closed-form. We also conduct the analysis for average secrecy capacity (ASC) in heavy shadowing and derive analytical expression in closed-form.

Secrecy Analysis of Physical Layer over $κ-μ$ Shadowed Fading Scenarios

Hussien Al‐Hmood, Hamed Saffa Al-Raweshidy

In this paper, the secrecy analysis of physical layer when both the main and wiretap channels undergo $κ-μ$ shadowed fading channel is investigated. In particular, the average secrecy capacity (ASC), secure outage probability (SOP), the lower bound of SOP (SOP$^L$), and the probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC) are derived by using the classic Wyner's wiretap model. Two different scenarios for the fading parameters, i.e., $μ$ and $m$ which represents the shadowing impact have been studied. These parameters are chosen first as arbitrary numbers, thus the performance metrics are expressed in single infinite series with multivariate Meijer $G$-function. In the second scenario, both the aforementioned fading parameters are assumed to be integer numbers in order to obtain the derived results in simple exact closed-form analytic mathematically tractable expressions. The numerical results of this analysis are verified via Monte Carlo simulations.

Comprehensive Framework for Physical Layer Analysis over Generalized-Lognormal composite Fading channels

Rahul Maurya, Puspraj Singh Chauhan, Vimal Bhatia +1 more

Abstract Physical layer security is a feasible solution to improve wireless communication secrecy against eavesdropping threats. Within this framework, this work examines the secrecy performance of a wireless link subjected to eavesdropping over generalized composite fading environments, specifically using the α-η-µ/Lognormal and α-κ-µ/Lognormal distributions. Closed-form results are derived for key secrecy performance metrics, including the average secrecy capacity (ASC), a lower bound on the secrecy outage probability SOPL, and the probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC). Additionally, asymptotic analyses of ASC, SOPL, and SPSC are presented in the high-SNR regime to yield simplified insights into system behavior. The analysis accommodates arbitrary and independent fading conditions for the main and eavesdropper channels, thereby enabling a comprehensive evaluation of the impact of various channel parameters. Ultimately, all analytical outcomes are corroborated using comprehensive Monte Carlo simulations, affirming their precision and relevance.

PERFORMANCE OF SECURE COMMUNICATION OVER LAMBDA-FISHER-SNEDECOR FADING CHANNELS

Jelena A. Anastasov, Aleksandra S. Panajotović, Dejan Milić +1 more

In this paper, we investigate the physical layer security (PLS) of the traditional Wyner’s wiretap channel model. Secrecy performance analysis is performed assuming a presence of an active eavesdropper trying to overhear the confidential data transmission from the source node to the predefined destination. In what follows, we derive the lower bound of the secrecy outage probability, the strictly positive secrecy capacity as well as the average secrecy capacity, over the composite a-Fisher-Snedecor (a-F) fading environment. According to the analytical results, numerical results are also shown. The impact of the path loss component, the average signal-to-noise ratios over the main/wiretap channel as well as the impact of the fading, the non-linearity of the propagation medium and the shadowing shaping parameter on the PLS metrics is examined. The overall analysis and the obtained results have a high level of generality and also a high level of applicability since the a-F distribution was recently proposed, as the best fit distribution for the channel characterization of the device-to-device wireless communication in the future Beyond 5G networks.

Secrecy Performance Analysis of SIMO Systems Over Correlated $\kappa$ –$\mu$ Shadowed Fading Channels

Jiangfeng Sun, Hongxia Bie, Xingwang Li +3 more

In this paper, the secrecy performance of single-input-multiple-output systems over correlated κ-μ shadowed fading channels is investigated. In particular, based on the classic Wyner's wiretap model, we derive analytical expressions for secure outage probability (SOP) and the probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC) over correlated κ-μ shadowed fading channels. In order to further study the impact of channel parameters on the secrecy performance, novel SOP and the probability of SPSC over independent and identically distributed κ-μ shadowed fading channels are also obtained. In addition, we discuss the asymptotic expressions of the SOP and the SPSC. The match between the analytical results and simulations is excellent for all parameters under considerations. It is interesting to find that the results show that when the signal-to-noise ratio of the main channel is lower than that of the eavesdropping channel, the larger value of correlation coefficient is helpful to improve the secrecy performance and vice versa.

On the Secrecy Capacity of Fisher-Snedecor F Fading Channels

Osamah S. Badarneh, Paschalis C. Sofotasios, Sami Muhaidat +3 more

The performance of physical-layer security of the classic Wyner's wiretap model over Fisher-Snedecor F composite fading channels is considered in this work. Specifically, the main channel (i.e., between the source and the legitimate destination) and the eavesdropper's channel (i.e., between the source and the illegitimate destination) are assumed to experience independent quasi-static Fisher-Snedecor F fading conditions, which have been shown to be encountered in realistic wireless transmission scenarios in conventional and emerging communication systems. In this context, exact closed-form expressions for the average secrecy capacity (ASC) and the probability of non-zero secrecy capacity (PNSC) are derived. Additionally, an asymptotic analytical expression for the ASC is presented. The impact of shadowing and multipath fading on the secrecy performance is investigated. Our results show that increasing the fading parameter of the main channel and/or the shadowing parameter of the eavesdropper's channel improves the secrecy performance. The analytical results are compared with Monte-Carlo simulations to validate the analysis.

Achievable Physical-Layer Security Over Composite Fading Channels

Osamah S. Badarneh, Paschalis C. Sofotasios, Sami Muhaidat +3 more

We investigate the physical layer security limits of Wyner's wiretap model over Fisher-Snedecor .T composite fading channels. .T fading conditions have been recently shown to provide an accurate characterization of multipath fading and shadowing effects in emerging wireless transmission scenarios such as body centric, cellular and vehicular communications. To this end, we utilize a redefined analytic expression for the Fisher-Snedecor .T distribution in order to ensure unconstrained validity and reliability when used in the analysis of various performance metrics of interest. In this context, we assume that the main channel (i.e., between the source and the legitimate destination) and the eavesdropper's channel (i.e., between the source and the illegitimate destination) undergo independent quasi-static Fisher-Snedecor .T composite fading. Novel exact analytic expressions are then derived for the corresponding average secrecy capacity (ASC), secure outage probability (SOP) and probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC) along with their insightful asymptotic representations. In addition, analytical expressions for the ASC, SOP and SPSC over mixed fading channels such as Nakagami-m/Nakagami-m, Nakagami-m/Fisher-Snedecor .T and Fisher-Snedecor .T/Nakagami-m are derived. The new formulations are validated through comparisons with Monte-Carlo simulations and analyzed to gain useful insights into the impact of the fading parameters on the achievable accuracy and the overall system performance.
