Abstract

The authors employ the artificial noise (AN) technique to enhance physical layer security (PLS) in one-way full-duplex (OWFD) networks. Specifically, an OWFD network incorporating AN and operating over Rayleigh fading channels is considered. The system consists of five nodes: a source node, a destination node, a relay node, an eavesdropper node, and a jamming node. To evaluate security performance, the authors analyze and assess several metrics, including the secrecy outage probability (SOP), secrecy throughput (STP), and the trade-off between outage probability (OP) and intercept probability (IP). Closed-form expressions are derived in the paper. The analytical results are validated through Monte Carlo simulations implemented in MATLAB, the results are illustrated through four graphs: the impact of the artificial-noise node’s position on the SOP under variations in the source node’s transmit power; the effect of the eavesdropper’s position; and the influence of the path-loss exponent on the system’s OP, IP, and SOP. In addition, a comparative graph of the SOP between the proposed model and the reference model is presented. All graphs demonstrate a significant improvement in security performance compared with previous studies. The proposed model confirms the feasibility of implementing PLS solutions in OWFD networks.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF SECURITY WHEN USING ARTIFICIAL NOISE FOR ONE-WAY FULL-DUPLEX RELAY NETWORKS

Hồ Quốc Bảo

In this paper, we are presenting a method to improve physical layer security (PLS) in wireless communication networks. Specifically, we would like to propose a one-way full-duplex (OWFD) relay network model with artificial noise (AN). The model consists of five nodes (source node, destination node, relay node, eavesdropping node, jamming node). To evaluate the security performance of the model, we analyzed key performance metrics such as the secrecy outage probability (SOP) and the system's secrecy throughput (STP) through deriving closed-form expressions for SOP and STP. Simulation results verify the proposed expressions using the Monte-Carlo method. The findings of this study demonstrated a significant improvement in security performance compared to previous researches. Additionally, the proposed model has highlighted the feasibility of implementing PLS techniques in OWFD relay networks.

Physical layer security in DF full-duplex relaying network: performance analysis

Phu Tran Tin, Tan Nhat Nguyen, Van-Duc Phan +1 more

In this letter, the system performance of the DF full-duplex (FD) Relaying communication network is investigated with Physical Layer Security (PLS). In this system model, the source (S) and the destination (D) communicate via a helping relay (R) in the presence of the Eavesdropper (E). From the system model, we derive the closed-form expressions for Intercept Probability (IP) and secrecy outage probability (SOP). For verifying the correctness of the analytical analysis, the Monte Carlo simulation is conducted. In addition, the influence of the main system parameter on the system performance is investigated. Finally, the results show that the analytical and the simulation values agree well with each other.

Secrecy Performance on Half-Duplex Two-Way Multi-Relay Transmission Technique Under Wireless Physical Layer Security

Mohammed Ahmed Salem, Azlan Abd Aziz, Mohamad Yusoff Alias +1 more

The open broadcast nature of the wireless networks makes it vulnerable to the eavesdropper attacks. The physical layer security (PLS) is a grown research field that exploits the characteristics of the physical wireless channel to prevent the eavesdropper interruptions and attacks. The use of the cooperative relay transmission is a method to approach the physical layer security. This paper studies the secrecy performance metrics of the half-duplex two-way multi-relaying technique. A cooperative jamming protocol is proposed to enhance the physical layer security, where the destination sends jamming signals to the eavesdropper node to degrade its channel capacity. However, the relays can act as a jammer and send jamming signals to the eavesdropper node. Moreover, Simulations of the performance metrics namely the secrecy capacity (Cs) and the secrecy outage probability (SOP) applied on the technique are presented and discussed to measure the secrecy level of the proposed technique compared with an existing technique namely half-duplex one-way multi-relaying technique. Based on simulations and discussions the proposed technique outperforms the existing technique in term of secrecy performance.

Physical Layer Security of Full-Duplex Two-Way AF Relaying Networks with Optimal Relay Selection

Fang Liu, Jiaojiao Li, Shulan Li +1 more

In this paper, the physical layer security of full-duplex two-way multiple amplify-and-forward (AF) relaying network in the presence of an eavesdropper is analyzed. The closed-form expression of the approximate secrecy outage probability (SOP) based on the optimal relay selection scheme (ORS) in maximizing the secrecy capacity of proposed network is given out. Furthermore, Monte-Carlo simulation results validate the analytical expressions and show that secrecy performance can be impacted by different parameters, including the number of candidate relay and the average power of residual self-interference. The simulation results also show that the full-duplex relaying systems based on optimal relay selection scheme can significantly outperform the conventional single-relay systems and the traditional half-duplex scheme in secrecy performance.

Security and Reliability Analysis of a Two-Way Half-Duplex Wireless Relaying Network Using Partial Relay Selection and Hybrid TPSR Energy Harvesting at Relay Nodes

Duy-Hung Ha, Tan Nhat Nguyen, Minh Hoang Quang Tran +3 more

In recent years, physical layer security has been considered as an effective method to enhance the information security beside the cryptographic techniques that are used in upper layers. In this paper, we provide the security analysis for a two-way relay network, where the two sources can only communicate through the intermediate relay nodes. In particular, we consider the scenario that there is an eavesdropper in the vicinity of one source node. Both reliability and security aspects are taken into consideration in our work. To enhance the reliability of communication, the intermediate relays are supplied with the energy harvested from the sources' radio frequency (RF) signals using hybrid time-switching and power splitting (TPSR) protocol. Also, we apply the relay selection technique to select the best relay for the information exchange between two sources. Regarding security, the secrecy of information is improved with the help of friendly jammers nearby the eavesdropper. We provide the in-dept reliability and security analysis in terms of the closed-form expressions of the outage probability (OP) at the source nodes, the intercept probability (IP) at the eavesdropper, the secrecy outage probability (SOP), and the average secrecy capacity (ASC) of the system. Finally, the Monte Carlo simulations are also conducted to verify the correctness of our analysis and the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. Numerical results confirms that with the appropriate and feasible choices of involved parameters, both outage OP and IP can be kept at small values to guarantee the reliable and secure communication of the system.

Enhancing Physical Layer Security of Cooperative Nonorthogonal Multiple Access Networks via Artificial Noise

Dan Jiang, Yuanyuan Gao, Guoxin Li +3 more

The massive connectivity requirement and security issues have become major factors restricting the further development of the Internet of Things. Nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) can be combined with physical layer security (PLS) to achieve massive connectivity and secure transmission. This article investigates the PLS performance for a downlink communication system over Nakagami-m fading channels, with full-duplex (FD) cooperative NOMA transmission aided by artificial noise (AN). While direct communication is built between the base station and two NOMA users, the strong user is employed as an FD relay as well as the jammer to enhance the PLS of the legitimate transmission in the presence of a passive eavesdropper (Eve). Closed-form analytical expressions in terms of the outage probability of the legitimate users and the intercept probability of Eve are derived to evaluate the security–reliability trade-off (SRT) of the proposed scheme. Monte Carlo simulations are provided to validate the veracity of the theoretic analyses and illustrate that the proposed scheme is superior in terms of SRT to the benchmark schemes in the low SNR region. Furthermore, the results reveal that the SRT performance of the two NOMA users can be enhanced through a proper AN-bearing ratio and power allocation optimization.
