Abstract

We consider a system of three particles consisting of two identical fermions and one other particle on a one-dimensional lattice. The fermions interact via a nearest-neighbor potential of strength $$\mu_1\in\mathbb{R}$$ , while the interaction between a fermion and one other particle is via an on-site potential with strength $${\mu_2\in\mathbb{R}}$$ . We establish existence of bound states of the associated three-body lattice Schrödinger operator for all values of the total quasimomentum $$K\in\mathbb{T}^1$$ . Furthermore, we show that both the bound state $$f_{\mu_1\mu_2}(K;\,{\cdot}\,{,}\,{\cdot}\,)$$ and its corresponding eigenvalue $$E_{\mu_1\mu_2}(K)$$ depend holomorphically on the quasimomentum.

The existence of bound states in a system of three particles in an optical lattice

Saidakhmat Norzhigitovich Lakaev, Sh. S. Lakaev

Abstract We consider the hamiltonian H μ , μ ∈ R of a system of three-particles (two identical fermions and one different particle) moving on the lattice Z d , d = 1 , 2 interacting through repulsive ( μ > 0 ) or attractive ( μ < 0 ) zero-range pairwise potential μ v . We prove for any μ ≠ 0 the existence of bound states of the discrete three-particle Schrödinger operator H μ ( K ) , K ∈ T d being the three-particle quasi-momentum, associated to the hamiltonian H μ .

The point spectrum of the three-particle Schrödinger operator for a system comprising two identical bosons and one fermion on Z

Zahriddin Ishkobilovich Muminov, Актамова Васила Уктамовна

We consider the Hamiltonian of a system of three quantum particles (two identical bosons and a fermion) on the one-dimensional lattice interacting by means of zero-range attractive or repulsive potentials. We investigate the point spectrum of the three-particle discrete Schrödinger operator H(K), K ∈ T which possesses infinitely many eigenvalues depending on repulsive or attractive interactions, under the assumption that the bosons in the system have infinite mass

We prove the existence of two-and three-particle bound states of the Schrödinger operators $h_μ(k),k\in \T^d$ and $H_μ(K),K\in \T^d$ associated to Hamiltonians $\mathrm{h}_μ$ and $\mathrm{H}_μ$ of a system of two and three identical bosons on the lattice $\Z^d, d=1,2$ interacting via pairwise zero-range attractive $μ<0$ or repulsive $μ>0$ potentials. As a consequence we show the existence of an isolated band in the two and three bosonic systems in an optical lattice.

Critical mass ratio and phase transition in three-particle lattice systems: comparison of bosonic and fermionic cases

J. I. Abdullaev, A.I. Eshniyоzov, M. V. Dolgopolov

We study three-particle Schrödinger operators on the two-dimensional lattice Z 2 and show that a critical mass ratio γ c ≈ 2.75194 governs the existence of a bound trimer in the fermionic 2 + 1 configuration (two identical fermions and a third particle). For γ < γ c there is a topological prohibition (Pauli suppression) of a three-body bound state, whereas for γ > γ c a doubly degenerate eigenvalue emerges below the essential spectrum with the strong-coupling asymptotics z(γ, λ) = −λ+e 0 (γ)+O(λ −1 ). Within a unified framework based on the Birman–Schwinger principle and strong-coupling asymptotic analysis, we compare this behaviour with the bosonic case of three identical particles, where two bound states exist below the essential spectrum and the ground-state energy satisfies z 1 s (µ) = −3µ + C 2 + O(µ −1 ). The resulting second-order phase transition with respect to the mass ratio γ is relevant for the design of experiments on fermionic trimers in optical lattices and for modelling excitonic complexes and defect-bound states in two-dimensional nanomaterials, where the critical value γ c serves as a design guideline for the observability of three-body bound states. We also outline a modified three-particle lattice model with two competing interaction channels, for which the Birman–Schwinger analysis naturally leads to a Landau-type scenario of a first-order phase transition in the space of trimer bound states. In the bosonic case we prove a strong-coupling theorem describing the existence and asymptotics of trimer bound states, while in the fermionic 2+1 case we establish a spectral phase-transition theorem that identifies an explicit critical mass ratio γ c separating the trimer and non-trimer regimes.

Repulsive bound-atom pairs in an optical lattice with two-body interaction of nearest neighbors

Y.-M. Wang, J.-Q. Liang

Repulsively interacting particles in a periodic potential can form bound composite objects with long lifetimes, as has been observed experimentally [Winkler et al., Nature (London) 441, 853 (2006)]. In this paper, a complete two-particle solution of one-dimensional periodical potential was derived in a strong interaction regime, where the on-site approximation of a two-body interaction in the Bose-Hubbard model (BHM) is extended to include the interaction of nearest neighbors, which results in atom-pair hopping. The energy spectrum of the bound pair is drastically reshaped due to the pair-hopping term, and complex eigenenergy corresponding to metastable states is also found that has not been discovered in the usual BHM. When the absolute value of a center-of-mass quasimomentum wave vector is greater than a critical value ($|K|>{K}_{c}$), two bound-pair solutions are found. Furthermore, the spatial and momentum distributions of the bound pair displays a crossover from dark to bright soliton-like solutions in the extended BHM. Our results reduce to that of the usual BHM in the weak interaction case.
