Stimulated downconversion of single-photon emission in a quantum dot placed in a target-frequency microcavity

We propose efficient frequency-tunable single-photon sources using stimulated frequency downconversion occurring directly in the quantum dot (QD) inside a microcavity. This microcavity should be designed not for the exciton frequency in the QD but for the target frequency that is set by the difference between the exciton resonance and the stimulating laser energies. This frequency downconversion arises from the second-order nonlinear interaction of an exciton (bright or dark) and a light-hole exciton in the stimulating laser field. We present an analytical model for such a process and evaluate its efficiency for a widely sought-after single-photon source for the C-band telecommunications.

All-optical tailoring of single-photon spectra in a quantum-dot microcavity system

Dominik Breddermann, Dirk Heinze, Rolf H. Binder +2 more

Semiconductor quantum-dot cavity systems are promising sources for solid-state-based on-demand generation of single photons for quantum communication. Commonly, the spectral characteristics of the emitted single photon are fixed by system properties such as electronic transition energies and spectral properties of the cavity. In the present work we study cavity-enhanced single-photon generation from the quantum-dot biexciton through a partly stimulated nondegenerate two-photon emission. We show that frequency and linewidth of the single photon can be fully controlled by the stimulating laser pulse, ultimately allowing for efficient all-optical spectral shaping of the single photon.

Stimulated Emission Behavior of Single Quantum Dot in Microcavity

Chang-qi Cao

A system consisted of a three-level quantum dot coupled to a single mode of an optical microcavity is investigated.Using the numerical calculation method, the net stimulated emission dynamical evolution with the variation of the coupling strength between the quantum dot and the single mode of the optical microcavity is studied, which is based on quantum-optical master equations. The effect of the decay rate between the laser levels on the net stimulated emission is also studied. When the coupling strength between the quantum dot and the single mode of the optical cavity is larger, the net stimulated emission is prone to a saturation curve sooner. These saturation curves get to a limit value with the increasing value of the coupling strength sooner. The net stimulated emission curves show the opposite law with the increasing value of the decay rate between the laser levels.
