Non-Markovianity detection with coherence measures based on the Tsallis relative α entropies

Abstract

In this paper, we use coherence measures based on the Tsallis relative α entropies (coherence α measures), with 0<α≤2, to detect the non-Markovianity of incoherent completely positive dynamical maps. At first, in a typical open quantum system, we study the differences between these quantum coherence (QC) measures (with different α) in reveling the non-Markovianity and meanwhile, we compare our results with the ones in Neto et al. (2016). We conclude that coherence α measures can detect non-Markovianity better than non-Markovianity measure which is based on entanglement. Then, in another example, we compare coherence α measures (with different α) with two other non-Markovianity criteria (trace distance and mutual information based criteria). The results show that generally, the coherence α measures can detect non-Markovianity at least as well as the two other criteria.

Quantifying quantum non-Markovianity based on quantum coherence via skew information

Lian-He Shao, Yu-Ran Zhang, Yu Luo +2 more

Abstract Based on the nonincreasing property of quantum coherence via skew information under incoherent completely positive and trace-preserving maps, we propose a non-Markovianity measure for open quantum processes. As applications, by applying the proposed measure to some typical noisy channels, we find that it is equivalent to the three previous measures of non-Markovianity for phase damping and amplitude damping channels, i.e. the measures based on the quantum trace distance, dynamical divisibility, and quantum mutual information. For the random unitary channel, it is equivalent to the non-Markovianity measure based on l 1 norm of coherence for a class of output states and it is incompletely equivalent to the measure based on dynamical divisibility. We also use the modified Tsallis relative entropy of coherence to detect the non-Markovianity of dynamics of quantum open systems, the results show that the modified Tsallis relative entropy of coherence are more comfortable than the original Tsallis relative entropy of coherence for small .

Coherence measure in terms of the Tsallis relative α entropy

Haiqing Zhao, Chang‐shui Yu

Coherence is the most fundamental quantum feature of the nonclassical systems. The understanding of coherence within the resource theory has been attracting increasing interest among which the quantification of coherence is an essential ingredient. A satisfactory measure should meet certain standard criteria. It seems that the most crucial criterion should be the strong monotonicity, that is, average coherence doesn't increase under the (sub-selective) incoherent operations. Recently, the Tsallis relative α entropy has been tried to quantify the coherence. But it was shown to violate the strong monotonicity, even though it can unambiguously distinguish the coherent and the incoherent states with the monotonicity. Here we establish a family of coherence quantifiers which are closely related to the Tsallis relative α entropy. It proves that this family of quantifiers satisfy all the standard criteria and particularly cover several typical coherence measures.

Non-Markovianity measure based on the relative entropy of coherence in an extended space

Zhi He, Hao‐Sheng Zeng, Yan Li +2 more

An alternative non-Markovianity measure for open quantum processes is proposed, which takes advantage of the nonincreasing property of relative entropy of coherence under the incoherent completely positive and trace-preserving maps in the extended Hilbert space constituted by the open system and its ancillary. By applying the proposed measure to some typical noisy channels, we find that for phase damping and amplitude damping channels it is equivalent to the three previous measures of non-Markovianity, i.e., the measures based on the quantum trace distance, dynamical divisibility, and quantum mutual information. For the random unitary channel, however, these measures do not coincide exactly, and the proposed measure in the witness of Markovianity is more general than the measures based on quantum trace distance and dynamical divisibility but overlaps partly with the measure based on quantum mutual information.

Detecting non-Markovianity via quantified coherence: theory and experiments

Kang‐Da Wu, Zhibo Hou, Guo‐Yong Xiang +4 more

Abstract The dynamics of open quantum systems and manipulation of quantum resources are both of fundamental interest in quantum physics. Here, we investigate the relation between quantum Markovianity and coherence, providing an effective way for detecting non-Markovianity based on the quantum-incoherent relative entropy of coherence ( $${\mathcal{Q}}{\mathcal{I}}$$ QI REC). We theoretically show the relation between completely positive (CP) divisibility and the monotonic behavior of the $${\mathcal{Q}}{\mathcal{I}}$$ QI REC. Also we implement an all-optical experiment to demonstrate that the behavior of the $${\mathcal{Q}}{\mathcal{I}}$$ QI REC is coincident with the entanglement shared between the system and the ancilla for both Markovian and non-Markovian evolution; while other coherence-based non-Markovian information carriers violate monotonicity, even in Markovian processes. Moreover, both theoretically and experimentally, we show that non-Markovianity enhances the ability of creating coherence on an ancilla. This is the first experimental study of the relation between dynamical behavior of the $${\mathcal{Q}}{\mathcal{I}}$$ QI REC and the phenomenon of information backflow. Our methods for detecting non-Markovianity are applicable to general quantum evolutions.

Parameterized coherence measure

Meng‐Li Guo, Zhi‐Xiang Jin, Jin‐Min Liang +2 more

Quantifying coherence is an essential endeavor for both quantum mechanical foundations and quantum technologies. We present a bona fide measure of quantum coherence by utilizing the Tsallis relative operator (α,β)-entropy. We first prove that the proposed coherence measure fulfills all the criteria of a well defined coherence measure, including the strong monotonicity in the resource theories of quantum coherence. We then study the ordering of the Tsallis relative operator (α,β)-entropy of coherence, Tsallis relative α-entropies of coherence, Rényi α-entropy of coherence and l1 norm of coherence for both pure and mixed qubit states. This provides a new method for defining new coherence measure and entanglement measure, and also provides a new idea for further study of quantum coherence.

Non-Markovianity of open two-level system by means of quantum coherence

He Zhi, Li Li, Chunmei Yao +1 more

We propose an approach to measuring non-Markovianity of an open two-level system from quantum coherence perspective including l1 norm of coherence and quantum relative entropy of coherence, and derive corresponding non-Markovian conditions. Further, as a particular application, non-Markovian conditions of an open two-level system undergoing phase damping channel, random unitary channel and amplitude damping channel, respectively are investigated. Specifically speaking, for the three channels we obtain non-Markovian conditions based on l1 norm of coherence at any initial state of system, and find that non-Markovian conditions are the same as the conditions of other measurements, i.e., information back-flow, divisibility and quantum mutual entropy for the phase damping channel and amplitude damping channel, but non-Markovian conditions new and different from the conditions of other measurements for random unitary channel. On the other hand, for phase damping channel we obtain non-Markovian conditions based on quantum relative entropy of coherence at any initial state of system, which are the same as the conditions of other measures, i.e., information back-flow, divisibility and quantum mutual entropy. However, for the random unitary channel and amplitude damping channel we obtain non-Markovian conditions at maximally coherent state of system.
