ORM and the Quantum Measurement Problem applies the Oscillation–Recursion Mirror (ORM) of Unified Recursion Theory (URT) to the longstanding problem of quantum measurement. ORM identifies the physical conditions under which a system transitions from reversible unitary evolution to irreversible outcome selection. The key mechanism is recursion admissibility: a measurement occurs only when stiffness σ and local thermal capacity permit a compressive informational update. This replaces the need for wavefunction collapse, hidden variables, or many-world branching. In this framework, reversible evolution generates alternatives under the conserving operator, while outcome selection corresponds to a compressive update governed by the URT proportionality law. Decoherence is interpreted as stiffness amplification through environmental coupling, not as a selection mechanism. Weak measurements correspond to partial recursion (0<λ≪10 < \lambda \ll 10<λ≪1), and strong measurements occur when recursion efficiency becomes finite. The Born rule emerges naturally from repeated recursion events, as amplitude structure determines which branches satisfy admissibility. The theory maintains full compatibility with quantum mechanics and identifies clear observational signatures linked to stiffness modulation, partial recursion behavior, and threshold-dependent measurement onset. This work provides a complete informational account of measurement that resolves the conceptual divide between reversible evolution and irreversible outcome selection without modifying quantum theory. This preprint presents a complete and fully operator-theoretic resolution of the quantum measurement problem. Including collapse, the Born rule, the uniqueness of outcomes, and the irrelevance of observersm derived entirely from a universal structural principle called the lawhood identity. Rather than adding new physics, modifying the Schrödinger equation, introducing hidden variables, invoking many-worlds branching, or appealing to consciousness, this work shows that quantum measurement is a direct, unavoidable consequence of a general fixed-point law that applies to all stable physical systems. When instantiated for quantum mechanics, this law forces every genuine superposition to fail the criteria for being a physically lawful state. Collapse is not an extra postulate: it is structurally mandatory. Key results include: • The No-Superposition Theorem: All superpositions are proven to be structurally unlawful; they cannot survive the measurement map.• Mandatory Collapse: Collapse emerges automatically from the composition of three physical operators (boundary, decoherence, and closure), without modifying quantum dynamics.• Derivation of the Born Rule: The familiar probabilities arise uniquely from the internal consistency of the measurement operators. No additional assumptions, decision theory, or symmetry arguments are required.• Observer Independence: Awareness and measurement are formally separated. Collapse is a physical, observer-independent process; knowledge acquisition is epistemic, not causal.• Uniqueness of Outcomes: The framework proves that there is only one stable classical outcome for any initial quantum state, directly resolving the many-worlds branching issue.• Experimental Signatures: The formulation predicts measurable relationships involving entropy, decoherence rates, and effective dimensionality. This paper shows that the puzzles of quantum collapse, superposition, outcome selection, probability, and the apparent role of observers, are not mysteries requiring new interpretations. They are the natural consequences of a deeper structural principle that governs all lawful physical systems. Quantum mechanics, under this lens, becomes a specific case of a universal operator identity that determines which states can persist as stable reality. Readers will find a complete, logically self-contained argument, with theorems and proofs written in a way that does not rely on philosophical interpretation or speculative assumptions. The result is a clear and testable framework that resolves a problem that has persisted since the birth of quantum theory. This work is part of a broader research program developing the universal Tier-0 lawhood framework and the “Everything Equation,” which unifies stability, collapse, and fixed-point structure across physics, computation, thermodynamics, and information. Relation to Tier-1 dynamical formulation: This work develops a law-level (structural) resolution of quantum measurement. A complementary Tier-1 dynamical realization of these structural principles, formulated entirely within a constrained operator framework and independent of law-level recursion language, is developed in: J. Rodgers, Saturation Geometry and the Structural Emergence of Measurement and the Born Rule in a Capacity-Constrained Dirac–Λ System, Zenodo (2026).https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18704783 The Tier-1 formulation may be read independently and provides a concrete operator-theoretic instantiation of the structural mechanisms discussed here.

Project Description This project develops a unified operator framework to resolve the measurement paradox in quantum mechanics. Standard theory uses two incompatible operators: unitary evolution for open systems and discontinuous collapse for measurement. This dual-rule architecture creates paradoxes at the seam between regimes. We propose a single continuous operator that governs both open and closed dynamics. The seam is modeled as a curved transition manifold, with collapse emerging naturally as high curvature rather than a separate projection rule. This restores continuity, preserves invariants, and eliminates the need for observer-dependent discontinuities. A toy model is presented to demonstrate the framework. The unified evolution equation interpolates smoothly between Schrödinger-like dynamics and collapse-like stabilization. Collapse is expressed as gradient flow into outcome basins, driven by curvature in the potential landscape. The model shows how unitary evolution and collapse can be understood as two expressions of one operator, resolving the paradox cleanly. This project establishes the foundation for further refinement of the unified operator, including explicit curvature equations, dynamical openness parameters, and worked examples in two-level systems. The aim is to provide a structurally coherent alternative to the dual-operator formalism and open a path toward publishable results in quantum foundations. 1. The quantum measurement problem arises from a structural asymmetry in standard formulations of quantum mechanics: while unitary evolution is treated as fundamental, irreversible events are introduced only through ad hoc postulates. As a result, measurement, decoherence, and probability appear conceptually disconnected. In this work, we propose a minimal reformulation in which irreversible interaction events are taken as ontological primitives. An event is defined as a completely positive, trace-preserving map that is not equivalent to any unitary transformation. Unitary evolution emerges as an effective description valid between events. Within this framework, quantum measurement is not a special process but a particular class of irreversible events with outcome-resolving structure. The Born rule arises naturally from the statistical structure of event realizations, and environmental decoherence is reinterpreted as a high density of irreversible events. No collapse postulate, observer-dependent rule, or modification of quantum dynamics is required. This formulation provides a unified and physically grounded resolution of the measurement problem and establishes a conceptual foundation for event-based extensions connecting quantum theory with spacetime and gravity.
Abstract: The quantum measurement problem has been the deepest conceptual difficulty since the birth of quantum mechanics. Standard quantum mechanics accepts wavefunction collapse as an independent postulate but never provides a physical explanation. The decoherence approach attributes collapse to the interaction between the system and its environment, but faces two fundamental limitations: the “infinite regress” problem and the “insufficiency of decoherence” problem. Within the framework of the Self-Construction Theory (SCT), this paper provides a complete resolution of the measurement problem. The core thesis is that quantum measurement is not a fundamental process independent of the laws of physical evolution, but rather a local manifestation of constructive renormalization—the scale evolution of the spacetime complex field K from microscopic degrees of freedom to macroscopic effective descriptions. The origins of wavefunction collapse, decoherence, and the Born rule receive a unified first‑principles interpretation in this framework. SCT’s spontaneous decoherence mechanism is the key to the resolution. Constructive renormalization inherently involves information loss—the integrated‑out microscopic degrees of freedom no longer exist in the macroscopic effective description. During a measurement, the measuring apparatus possesses a huge number (∼1023) of microscopic degrees of freedom. When the apparatus interacts with the measured system, constructive renormalization triggers information compression of these degrees of freedom—the apparatus can no longer distinguish which branch of the superposition it is in, and quantum coherence is thus spontaneously lost. No “external environment” is needed—the constructive renormalization dynamics of spacetime itself is the ultimate source of decoherence, thereby completely solving the “infinite regress” problem. Among the probability distribution given by the Born rule, the weights of non‑maximal probability branches are further suppressed by information compression under the huge number of microscopic degrees of freedom, so that macroscopic observers can perceive only a definite outcome in the effective description. The information loss caused by constructive renormalization is ontological—it does not rely on any approximation or truncation, thus fundamentally solving the “insufficiency of decoherence” problem. The Born rule—that measurement outcomes occur with probabilities given by the squared amplitudes—is directly derived from the constructive integral structure in SCT. In the constructive renormalization limit, interference terms between different configurations are naturally suppressed by off‑diagonal phase randomization, and the system automatically switches to a classical probabilistic description. In the diagonal density matrix representation, the squared amplitude is the only natural weight that is simultaneously real and non‑negative. Hence the Born rule is not an additional postulate of quantum mechanics but a necessary and unique manifestation of the relative frequencies of the constructive integral in the constructive renormalization limit. This derivation is rigorous within the mathematical framework of constructive renormalization—it does not rely on any approximations or truncations. SCT’s quantum measurement theory is deeply unified with the black hole information paradox. The “collapse” in quantum measurement and the “information loss” in black hole evaporation are different manifestations of the same core mechanism—the redistribution of information due to constructive renormalization—in two extreme physical situations. In quantum measurement, information is redistributed into the degrees of freedom of the macroscopic apparatus; in black hole evaporation, information is redistributed into the time‑point configurations on the horizon. This unification is the strongest proof of the universality of constructive renormalization as an information‑processing mechanism.
