Abstract

The technique of Quantum Random Number Generation (QRNG) is widely recognized as a superior method for generating true random numbers. This is due to the inherent security benefits offered by quantum effects. In our research paper, we showcase a high-dimensional and compact QRNG system, which uses a metalens array to generate random numbers. The unique advantage of our system is that it is smaller than current commercial products, and post-randomness extraction is not required for random number generation. This greatly streamlines the QRNG process, making it more efficient and effective, and provides a new integrated solution for QRNG.

Metalens array for quantum random number

Yubin Fan, Shufan Chen, Xiaoyuan Liu +4 more

Quantum random number generation (QRNG) leveraging intrinsic quantum uncertainty has attracted significant interest in the field of integrated photonic architecture, with applications in quantum cryptography, tests of quantum nonlocality, and beyond. The demand for compact, low-energy consumption, robust, fast, and cost-effective QRNGs integrated into photonic chips is highlighted, whereas most previous works focused on bulk optics. Here, based on the metalens array entangled source, we experimentally realized a miniaturized, high-dimensional quantum random number generator via a meta-device without post-randomness extraction. Specifically, the device has a high-density output with 100 channels per square millimeter. This chip-scale quantum randomness source can obtain random number arrays without post-randomness extraction and enable compact integration for quantum applications needing secure keys or randomness. Our approach demonstrates potential in secure key generation and randomness for quantum applications.

Novel Quantum Random Number Generator with the Improved Certification Method

Maksim Iavich, Tamari Kuchukhidze, Giorgi Iashvili +2 more

Random numbers play an important role in many areas, for example, encryption, cryptography, static analysis, simulations. It is also a fundamental resource in science and engineering. There are algorithmically generated numbers that are similar to random distributions, but are not actually random, called pseudo random number generators. In many cases the tasks to be solved are based on the unpredictability of random numbers, which cannot be guaranteed in the case of pseudo random number generators, true randomness is required. In such situations, we use real random number generators whose source of randomness is unpredictable random events.Quantum Random Number Generators (QRNGs) generate real random numbers based on the inherent randomness of quantum measurements. Our goal is to generate fast random numbers at a lower cost.At the same time, a high level of randomness is essential.Through quantum mechanics, we can obtain true numbers using the unpredictable behavior of a photon, which is the basis of many modern cryptographic protocols. It is essential to trust cryptographic random number generators to generate only true random numbers. This is why certification methods are needed which will check both the operation of the device and the quality of the random bits generated. We present the improved novel quantum random number generator, which is based the on time of arrival QRNG.It uses the simple version of the detectors with few requirements. The novel QRNG produces more than one random bit per each photon detection. It is rather efficient and has a high level of randomness.Self-testing as well as device independent quantum random number generation methods are analyzed. The advantages and disadvantages of both methods are identified. The model of a novel semi self-testing certification method for quantum random number generators (QRNG) is offered in the paper. This method combines different types of certification approaches and is rather secure and efficient. Finally, the novel certification method is integrated into the model of the new quantum random number generator. The paper analyzes its security and efficiency.

True Random Number Generation on IBM Real-Time Quantum Computer for Secure and Unpredictable Cryptographic Applications

V. Karthick, S Haritha, Janani K

Truly random integers, which are the absolute requirement for this type of cryptography, are necessary for data security. Conventional PRNGs is deterministically which makes them predicted. This type of weakness is present in them. Unlike conventional algorithms, QRNG uses something very fundamental, quantum physics. It has allowed for a breakthrough in using random numbers that are unpredictable. The main goal of the project to design a system including the QRNG (quantum random number generator) and cloud platform developed by IBM. The system produces robust and ideal output for cryptography while being both effective and efficient. We will conduct detailed and effective tuning and testing so as to increase output. Outputs of this project are a QRNG system built on the cloud that can be connected with cryptographic applications, certified sequence, and informational materials of the organization. With this research of QRNGs synchronized with the IBM cloud platform, we make cryptographic security stronger by using the quantum mechanical method to create truly random numbers. Moreover, QRNGs contribute to the cryptographic applications which are intended to be incredibly secure and of high dependability by providing random numbers to enter the realm of crypto-with very little human participation. Basically, the cloud-based architecture enable systems to scale and possible failure resilience via migrating the workload or storing the data online. Quantum improvements will speed up the process of replacing the currently accepted cryptographic paradigm with something opening new ways of digital communication. This research is about quantum physics, cloud computing, and cryptography, bringing together how these concepts operate, as a result, of the unexpected and secure cryptographic applications.

Quantum random number generators (QRNG) are the prime source of randomness, by exploiting the unpredictable nature of Quantum mechanics QRNG aims to provide a string of completely random utterly unpredictable numbers. QRNGs are crucial for cryptography, scientific calculation, simulation, and many more real-world applications. Our Optical Quantum Random Number Generator (OQRNG) utilizes a high-speed pulsating laser, a Polarizing beam splitter (PBS), photodetectors, and advanced signal processing units that capture and digitize random photon intensity forming the raw random bit stream. This technique is famously known as Branching Path Technique. After that, we implement rigorous testing that encompasses the statistical randomness tests developed by National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to ensure the guaranteed ran-domness meets security standards. A user-friendly Graphic user interface (GUI) simplifies interaction with the QRNG allowing the user to configure device settings, monitor system performance, and securely extract random numbers. Our findings help us demonstrate the superiority of QRNGs over classical random number generators, and highlight the potential of photon-based QRNGs and their environmentally friendly and efficient random number generation.

AI-BASED QUANTUM RANDOM NUMBER GENERATION FOR SECURE COMMUNICATIONS

Narayana Gaddam

One of the solutions to the problem of secure communication is the Quantum Random Number Generators (QRNGs) which generate true randomness based on quantum mechanical principles.QRNGs are different from conventional pseudo random number generator in that they use quantum uncertainty to generate outputs which are very unpredictable. This work attempts to examine different QRNG architectures, study the possible integration of cryptographic frameworks with these architectures and highlight potential vulnerabilities in the integration of cryptographic frameworks with QRNG architectures.Post-processing techniques, i.e.Zero-Phase Component Analysis (ZPCA) and neural network based techniques are also studied to increase entropy and suppress environmental noise in QRNG systems.Key findings show that system jitter models based QRNG architectures are more scalable and less expensive for use in real world applications.Additionally, incorporating cryptographic protocols with the QRNGs endows them with the ability to resist quantum threats, and hence, provide better key distribution in the secure IoT communication frameworks. However, as security problems such as side channel attacks and hardware manipulation are still big issues. It also points out some of the emerging research trends including hybrid QRNG architectures, i.e., QRNG with classical PRNG to increase the entropy rate.As such, the proposed methodologies attempt to enhance QRNG scalability, security, and energy efficiency in cloud infrastructures, in mobile systems and in critical security environments. The advancement of these technologies will assume a crucial function in the advancement of quantum-safe frames for current advanced computerized foundation.
