Abstract

The significance of random numbers spans across a wide range of applications, from cryptography to art and music. Quantum technology has become a focal point in the search for authentic randomness due to its inherent probabilistic behaviour. Quantum technologies exploit intrinsic quantum randomness to produce Quantum Random Number Generators (QRNGs). The state of quantum random number generation technology is continually evolving. Different approaches are introduced without claiming to provide a complete overview about current efforts to provide efficient and effective QRNG. A range of companies are presently offering QRNG products, and future advancements are expected to extend these offerings, meeting the rising demand for quality randomness in fields that rely heavily on entropy and security.

Quantum Random Number Generator-Based Cryptographic Algorithm Design

Jincheng Zhang

This paper explores the design of cryptographic algorithms leveraging the inherent randomness of quantum random number generators (QRNGs). Traditional cryptographic algorithms often rely on pseudo-random number generators (PRNGs), which are deterministic and therefore vulnerable to attacks if their internal state is compromised. QRNGs, on the other hand, derive their randomness from quantum mechanical phenomena, offering a fundamentally unpredictable source of numbers. This research investigates the application of QRNGs to enhance cryptographic security, focusing on constructing algorithms that exploit this unique property. The core claim is that utilizing QRNG characteristics allows for the design of more secure cryptographic algorithms. The proposed mechanism involves capitalizing on the non-deterministic nature of QRNGs to build algorithms with heightened security levels. This approach presents a novel security guarantee method by incorporating true randomness into cryptographic processes. We examine specific algorithm designs and analyze their security implications compared to traditional PRNG-based approaches. The paper concludes with a discussion on the challenges and future directions of utilizing QRNGs in cryptography.

Quantum Random Number Generator Based on Quantum Mechanical Principles

Jincheng Zhang

This paper presents the design and theoretical framework for a quantum random number generator (QRNG) rooted in the principles of quantum mechanics. The core innovation lies in leveraging the inherent randomness associated with quantum measurement, specifically the uncertainty principle, to generate truly random numbers, a significant departure from the limitations of classical random number generators. The proposed system utilizes a measurement process involving a quantum system, such as a photon polarization or a quantum bit, to produce a sequence of random bits. The generated bits are then processed to eliminate bias and ensure high uniformity. The theoretical analysis focuses on quantifying the randomness inherent in the measurement process and demonstrating the potential for generating high-quality random numbers. This work addresses the growing demand for secure communication, cryptography, and simulation applications that require truly random numbers, offering a fundamentally different approach compared to traditional methods.

Construction of a Quantum Random Number Generator

Kashish Karera, Ayan Khan, Humanyou Tariq +4 more

Quantum random number generators (QRNG) are the prime source of randomness, by exploiting the unpredictable nature of Quantum mechanics QRNG aims to provide a string of completely random utterly unpredictable numbers. QRNGs are crucial for cryptography, scientific calculation, simulation, and many more real-world applications. Our Optical Quantum Random Number Generator (OQRNG) utilizes a high-speed pulsating laser, a Polarizing beam splitter (PBS), photodetectors, and advanced signal processing units that capture and digitize random photon intensity forming the raw random bit stream. This technique is famously known as Branching Path Technique. After that, we implement rigorous testing that encompasses the statistical randomness tests developed by National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to ensure the guaranteed ran-domness meets security standards. A user-friendly Graphic user interface (GUI) simplifies interaction with the QRNG allowing the user to configure device settings, monitor system performance, and securely extract random numbers. Our findings help us demonstrate the superiority of QRNGs over classical random number generators, and highlight the potential of photon-based QRNGs and their environmentally friendly and efficient random number generation.

Quantum Random Number Generation

Jincheng Zhang

Quantum random number generation (QRNG) offers a fundamentally different approach to randomness compared to classical methods. This paper explores the design and principles of a QRNG based on harnessing the inherent uncertainty in quantum measurements. The core claim is the development of a system capable of generating truly random quantum bit sequences. This is achieved by exploiting the probabilistic nature of quantum measurement, specifically the collapse of the wave function upon observation, which yields unpredictable outcomes. The generated sequences are expected to exhibit statistical independence, a crucial property for various quantum computing applications. This work lays the groundwork for a detailed exploration of QRNG techniques, highlighting their potential impact on secure quantum communication and simulation. We will detail the theoretical underpinnings, focusing on the mathematical formulation of the process and the statistical properties of the generated random numbers.

The Role of Quantum Random Number Generators in Cybersecurity

Mmaduekwe Ebuka Paul, Ugochukwu Mmaduekwe, Tolu-iloriIyanuoluwa Tolu-iloriIyanuoluwa

The success of cybersecurity security depends on cryptographic protocols because they shield sensitive information as well as communication channels and serve to authenticate procedures. These protocols derive their foundation from producing robust random numbers because these numbers serve as the basis for encryption key creation and digital signature generation along with secure access protocols. Random number generators used traditionally such as PRNGs and HRNGs suffer from determinism, and predictability flaws combined with the risk of outside tampering thus affecting their reliability. The weaknesses in cryptographic security become dangerous because of the rising quantum computer threats that would break current encryption methods. Quantum Random Number Generators (QRNGs) introduce revolutionary changes through the quantum mechanics properties of quantum superposition and photon polarization and vacuum fluctuations for truly random number generation. The use of QRNGs brings high-security benefits by giving algorithms unpredictable outputs that hackers cannot predict nor alter without being detected. Implementing QRNGs in cybersecurity networks enables better encryption algorithms as well as securely protected communication systems with strong resistance against contemporary cyber attacks. This article outlines the advantages of QRNGs over traditional RNGs, applications in cryptographic systems, and how they can protect against threats from emerging quantum computing technologies. It also covers the challenges in implementing QRNGs, including hardware complexity, cost, and integration into existing security infrastructures. As cyber threats continue to evolve, QRNGs represent an important milestone in ensuring robust and future-proof cryptographic security

Quantum Random Number Generator Multi-Model Fusion and Verification

Jincheng Zhang

Quantum random number generators (QRNGs) offer a fundamentally different approach to random number generation compared to classical methods, leveraging the inherent unpredictability of quantum mechanical processes. However, the widespread adoption of QRNGs is currently hindered by a lack of standardized verification procedures and effective multi-model fusion strategies. This paper addresses these challenges by proposing a comprehensive framework for the multi-model validation and fusion of QRNGs. The framework integrates multiple quantum physical and information-theoretic randomness sources, employing statistical modeling for rigorous security assessments. Specifically, we introduce a novel approach to quantifying the entropy and bias of QRNG outputs across various models. The core contribution lies in establishing a systematic methodology for evaluating QRNG security and presenting a viable strategy for combining the strengths of different QRNG technologies. Our analysis highlights the importance of diverse validation techniques and the potential for improved QRNG performance through model fusion. The proposed framework provides a foundation for more reliable and trustworthy QRNG implementations, crucial for applications demanding high-quality randomness, such as cryptography and simulation.
