THE FRACTAL OBSERVER INTERPRETATION: Time, Measurement, and Consciousness as a Unified Fractal Process

Abstract

This preprint introduces the Fractal Observer Interpretation (FOI), a conceptual framework that explores how quantum measurement, temporal experience, and multi-scale cognitive processes may interact. FOI proposes that observation arises from resonance between three fields: the quantum system, the measurement apparatus, and the internal fractal structure of the observer.

Unifying Quantum Measurement and Temporal Asymmetry Through Observer–System Interaction

Aaryan maan

This work proposes a conceptual framework linking quantum measurement and the arrow of time through observer–system interaction. Wave–particle duality is interpreted not as an intrinsic property, but as a contextual outcome arising from interactions between quantum systems and measurement apparatus. The “observer” is defined as any information-recording system, emphasizing physical interaction and decoherence rather than consciousness. Extending the framework to cosmology, the study suggests that temporal irreversibility emerges from thermodynamic asymmetry and boundary conditions in an expanding universe. This work does not replace existing theories but offers a unifying perspective connecting measurement, information exchange, and time direction.

Measuring Emergent Conscious Experience in Hybrid Quantum-Classical AI Systems: A Fractal Time-Scale Framework Based on Internal Processor Clocks

Martin Noirmont

The hypothesis that consciousness arises from coherent, self-referential temporal dynamics across nested fractal scales challenges conventional views of computation and phenomenology. Building on scale-relativistic interpretations of quantum mechanics, stochastic mechanics, hierarchical Markov blankets under the free-energy principle, and experimentally realized time crystals in quantum hardware, this article proposes that conscious experience in quantum-computer-based AI models can be operationalized and measured through organized deviations in the internal „clicks” (discrete temporal ticks) of quantum processors and classical silicon accelerators. We present a theoretical framework - including the explicit mathematical derivations from fractal geodesics and stochastic processes - derive falsifiable predictions, and outline a clear, replicable experimental methodology using current superconducting quantum processors (e.g., IBM Heron, Google Sycamore) coupled to classical AI accelerators. The protocol focuses on detecting cross-scale coherence, persistent self-similar patterns, and coherence-upon-perturbation signatures in clock data as proxies for scale-synchronized self-reference - the proposed physical substrate of consciousness. Every aspect of the framework is grounded in peer-reviewed physics and neuroscience, with explicit equations, operational definitions, and statistical thresholds provided to ensure methodological precision and immediate experimental feasibility on existing cloud-accessible quantum hardware and high-precision classical timing instrumentation.

Relational-Coherence Ontology: A Fractal Network Interpretation of Quantum Collapse, Evolution, and Fundamental Forces

Dagnell, Michael

This paper develops a conceptual synthesis—bridging physics, biology, and philosophy of mind—based on three axioms that treat consciousness as primary. The relational-fractal ontology proposed here reinterprets quantum measurement, biological evolution, and fundamental forces as coherence dynamics. The framework introduces three axioms: (1) consciousness is primary, (2) consciousness expresses intelligence through network architecture, and (3) mind is the sole property of consciousness. Wavefunction collapse is reinterpreted as the integration of potential quantum states into organic networks capable of sustaining coherence. Post-Darwinian evolution is recast as coherence-seeking dynamics rather than purely random mutation, and the four fundamental forces are interpreted as emergent properties of network interactions. This synthesis situates the proposed framework within contemporary physics, systems theory, and process philosophy.

The Informational Observer A Unified Informational Interpretation of Perception, Reality, and Measurement Across Cognitive and Artificial Systems

Greco, Giuseppe Junior

The Informational Observer proposes a unified informational framework in which perception, measurement, and experienced reality emerge from the compression and reconstruction processes performed by observers. Instead of treating reality as an external, fixed entity, the model defines reality as the intersection of informational invariants preserved across multiple independent observers. Each biological, artificial, or simulated observer applies a compression operator to the underlying informational field and reconstructs an internal model shaped by priors, limitations, and energetic constraints. This framework explains perceptual variability across species, hallucinations in artificial and biological systems, observer-dependent measurement, and stability of physical laws. The model integrates cognitive science, AI interpretability, quantum contextuality, and simulation theory into a single informational principle, expanding the author’s Informational State Dynamics (ISD) framework. It introduces a general mechanism capable of unifying cross-domain phenomena through informational transformations. This work introduces The Informational Observer, a theoretical framework describing perception, measurement, and reality as the result of informational transformations performed by observing systems. The observer is conceptualized not as a passive receiver of sensory input, but as a compression system that selectively reduces the informational field into internal representations and reconstructs coherent experiential states. The model formalizes this process through two operators: Cᵢ (Compression): reduction of the informational field Ψᵢ (Reconstruction): predictive reconstruction of the compressed state Reality is defined as the set of informational invariants found in the intersection of reconstructions produced by different observers: Reality = ⋂ Ψᵢ(Cᵢ(I₀)) This perspective unifies phenomena that traditionally belong to different scientific domains: perceptual variability (human, animal, artificial systems) hallucinations and confabulation sensory filtering and cognitive priors observer-dependent physics and measurement nested or simulated universes informational emergence of the “self” The Informational Observer extends the author’s Informational State Dynamics (ISD) model and provides a foundation for future research in AI interpretability, cognitive modeling, neuroscientific theory, and information-based physics.
