The International Congress on Mathematical Physics is a major conference in its field that attracts a very wide spectrum of researchers. Held every three years, it provides an overview of recent developments and achievements in mathematical physics. This volume presents the plenary lectures and invited topical session lectures from the XVIIth ICMP, which was held in Aalborg, Denmark, August 2012. It also includes additional material from the Congress. In this volume, one can find survey lectures on orthogonal polynomials, random systems, information theory in physics, several aspects of quantum field theory and quantum mechanics, general relativity, and classical and quantum dynamical systems. The topical sessions covered the following areas: •Dynamical systems, classical and quantum •Equilibrium and non-equilibrium statistical mechanics •PDE and general relativity •Stochastic models and probability •Operator algebras, exactly solvable models •Quantum mechanics and spectral theory •Quantum information and computation •Quantum many-body theory and condensed matter physics •Quantum field theory •String theory and quantum gravity Readers are exposed to state-of-the-art views on mathematical physics. Several of the plenary lectures give broad surveys on recent activities, for example, in orthogonal polynomials, PDE in mathematical physics, and information theory in physics.

The 10th Quantum Mathematics International Conference (Qmath10) gave an opportunity to bring together specialists interested in that part of mathematical physics which is in close connection with various aspects of quantum theory. It was also meant to introduce young scientists and new tendencies in the field. This collection of carefully selected papers aims to reflect recent techniques and results on Schroedinger operators with magnetic fields, random Schroedinger operators, condensed matter and open systems, pseudo-differential operators and semiclassical analysis, quantum field theory and relativistic quantum mechanics, quantum information, and much more. The book serves as a concise and well-documented tool for the more experimented scientists, as well as a research guide for postgraduate students.
Physics and mathematics have always been closely intertwined, with developments in one field frequently inspiring the other. Currently, there are many unsolved problems in physics which will likely require new innovations in mathematical physics. Mathematical physics is concerned with problems in statistical mechanics, atomic and molecular physics, quantum field theory, and, in general, with the mathematical foundations of theoretical physics. This includes such subjects as scattering theory for n-bodies, quantum mechanics (both non-relativistic and relativistic), atomic and molecular physics, the existence and properties of the phases of model ferromagnets, the stability of matter, the theory of symmetry and symmetry breaking in quantum field theory (both in general and in concrete models), and mathematical developments in functional analysis and algebra to which such subjects lead. This book presents leading-edge research in this fast-moving field.
