Abstract

In the model of a zero-radius potential, the article studies the influence of an external electric field on the photoluminescence of a quantum molecule, which is connected with the electron radiative transition from U-state to g-term of D -center under conditions of dissipative tunnelling. The photoluminescence probability is shown to increase approximately by two orders when the external electric field strength causes the initially asymmetric double-well oscillatory potential (simulating the quantum molecule) to become a symmetric one. The photoluminescence probability has been shown to be highly sensitive to such parameters of dissipative tunneling as temperature, frequency of phonon mode, and the heat-bath interaction constant.

Peculiarities of two-photon impurity absorption spectra in a quantum molecule with a tunnel-transparent potential barrier

The effect of dissipative tunneling parameters on the spectral dependence of the probability of two-photon impurity absorption in a quantum molecule is theoretically investigated. The effect of the tunnel barrier transparency on two-photon impurity absorption in a quantum molecule is shown to manifest itself as a change in the width of energy levels of the virtual and final states due to variations in such parameters of dissipative tunneling as temperature, photon-mode frequency, and the constant of interaction with a heat bath.

Флуоресценция некогерентно возбуждаемой полярной квантовой системы, находящейся под воздействием сильного нерезонансного внешнего поля: Аннотации

High-frequency fluorescent radiation by incoherently pumped polar two-level quantum system possessing permanent electric dipole moments and simultaneously interacting with external low-frequency field and dissipative environment of some kind was studied. The system in question may be represented by a one-electron two-level asymmetric polar semiconductor quantum dot characterized by the electric dipole moment operator with unequal diagonal matrix elements in its ground and excited quantum states. An analytical expression for the steady-state fluorescence spectrum as a function of the amplitude, initial phase and carrier frequency of the driving field, as well as of the pumping intensity, was derived. It was shown that in the case of strong external field an interaction with the environment is modified, which alters in its turn the fluorescence spectrum.

The fluorescent radiative properties of a two-level quantum polar system with broken spatial inversion symmetry being realized as a model of a single-electron two-level “atom” with permanent atomic electric dipole moment, so that its electric dipole operator diagonal matrix elements are not equal to each other, were examined. In practice, such a system can be realized as an asymmetric quantum dot. A particular case when this system is driven by a trichromatic external field, with two high-frequency bichromatic field components of equal Rabi frequencies and carrier frequencies being placed symmetrically around the atomic transition frequency, and one more low-frequency component being in resonance with the Rabi frequency of the high-frequency components, was analyzed. It was shown that the high-frequency spectral properties of the fluorescent radiation can be altered with equal efficiency either by controlling the intensity of the low-frequency component of the trichromatic driving field or by changing the degree of the quantum dot asymmetry. Study of the quantum tunneling from the symmetric to asymmetric double-well potential

Xu Hong

In this paper wave functions of symmetric and asymmetric double-well potential are studied in two-level approximation and it is demonstrated that quantum tunneling varies with the variation of the static electric field strength. The quantum tunneling in the symmetric double well is spontaneous and active, while in asymmetric double well, even the strength of the electric field is little the quantum tunneling disappears completely.Based on the dynamic process of the localized wave function the dynamic vanishing process of quantum tunneling is obtained.

Dissipation-assisted tunneling in asymmetric double-well potentials

Mohsen Razavy

The motion of the center of a wave packet localized in one of the wells of an asymmetric double-well potential is studied. The asymmetric potential is obtained from a solvable symmetric potential using the Gel'fand–Levitan formalism, by keeping the energy eigenvalues unchanged, but changing the normalization of the ground-state wave function. While in a symmetric double well the wave packet tunnels back and forth between the two wells, for an asymmetric well, in general, tunneling does not take place. This is independent of the initial location of the wave packet, i.e., whether it is centered at the minimum of the shallower or of the deeper well. However, when such a system is coupled to a dissipative force, then the tunneling becomes possible. For instance it is shown that if, as a model of dissipative coupling, one chooses Gisin's nonlinear evolution equation, then the center of the wave packet ends up in the deeper well (decay of false vacuum). This result depends on the particular model of dissipation, for instance, an optical potential model yields a different result.

Spontaneous emission from a two-level atom tunneling in a double-well potential

Daniel Braun, John Martin

We study a two-level atom in a double-well potential coupled to a continuum of electromagnetic modes (black-body radiation in three dimensions at zero absolute temperature). Internal and external degrees of freedom of the atom couple due to recoil during emission of a photon. We provide a full analysis of the problem in the long wavelengths limit up to the border of the Lamb-Dicke regime, including a study of the internal dynamics of the atom (spontaneous emission), the tunneling motion, and the electric field of the emitted photon. The tunneling process itself may or may not decohere depending on the wavelength corresponding to the internal transition compared to the distance between the two wells of the external potential, as well as on the spontaneous emission rate compared to the tunneling frequency. Interference fringes appear in the emitted light from a tunneling atom, or an atom in a stationary coherent superposition of its center-of-mass motion, if the wavelength is comparable to the well separation, but only if the external state of the atom is post selected.
