Abstract

The effect of dissipative tunneling parameters on the spectral dependence of the probability of two-photon impurity absorption in a quantum molecule is theoretically investigated. The effect of the tunnel barrier transparency on two-photon impurity absorption in a quantum molecule is shown to manifest itself as a change in the width of energy levels of the virtual and final states due to variations in such parameters of dissipative tunneling as temperature, photon-mode frequency, and the constant of interaction with a heat bath.

Emergence of spectral line jumps and spectral diffusion in the two-photon correlator of a single impurity center

Игорь Сергеевич Осадько

A dynamic theory of two-photon correlators for a single impurity center developed recently by the author [I. S. Osad’ko, Zh. Éksp. Teor. Fiz. 113 , 1606 (1998) [JETP 86 , 875 (1998)] has been generalized to the case in which the center interacts with nonequilibrium two-level systems (TLSs) in polymers and glasses. Quantum tunneling transitions in TLS manifest themselves as random jumps of a spectral line of an impurity center. These jumps can be either spontaneous or light-induced. Interaction between the impurity center and many nonequilibrium TLSs, which exist in polymers, results in a time dependence of the optical dephasing rate 1/ T 2 of an impurity molecule, i.e., in spectral diffusion. This paper describes how the jumps of the spectral line manifest themselves in the two-photon correlator, which can be measured in experiments.

Study of the linear and nonlinear optical properties of quantum dot molecules: Tunneling induced transparency

Heydarpour, Ghobad, Daneshfar, Nader

In the present work, the linear and nonlinear optical properties of quantum dot molecules composed of two quantum dots as well as three quantum dots molecules, respectively known as double quantum dot (DQD) molecule and triple quantum dot (TQD) molecules are studied using the probability amplitude method, and the obtained results are discussed and compared. By solving the state equations of these systems in the interaction picture, under the rotating wave approximation and the dipole approximation, the first and third-order susceptibilities for DQD and TQD molecules are calculated. A phenomenon called tunneling-induced transparency (TIT) which is similar to electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) is studied in these types of quantum dot molecules. The effect of key system parameters such as tunneling couplings between quantum dots and the tunneling intensity on the linear and nonlinear optical response of multiple quantum dot molecules DQD and TQD is investigated. It was shown that the position and the width of the TIT window created in these quantum dot molecules can be tuned by changing the physical parameters.

Self-induced medium transparency and nutation echo in an ensemble of impurities in photonic crystals

Ashat M. Basharov

Nutation oscillations of an electromagnetic wave propagating through photonic crystal with resonant impurities are studied theoretically in case when one energy level of impurity is in a gap in photonic states. It is shown that this impurity energy level serves as a trap for excitation of impurity atom when two-photon relaxation processes are essential in the electromagnetic field. This effect causes self-induced medium transparency and peculiar attenuation of nutation oscillation which allow studying experimentally two-photon relaxation.

Two-photon light absorption by atoms near the body surface with spectral features

Gennadiy Nikolaev, Oleg Uuemaa

Two-photon light absorption by an atom situated near to surface of a solid with spectral features in the vicinity of resonance frequencies of transitions of atoms is theoretically investigated. These features can be caused, for example, polariton or exiton resonance of a solid. It is shown, that the two-photon light absorption an atom situated near to surface can essentially differ from those in a free space. The spectrum of a two-photon absorption becomes asymmetric over the difference between exciting light frequency and resonant transition frequency of the atom. It is established, that even small spectral features of solid can give rise to significant changes of a spectrum of a two-photon absorption of light. It is established also, that such changes of a spectrum of a two- photon absorption of light are nonlinear increased with increase of the intensity of the exciting light and with approach of the atom to the surface of solid.

Влияние внешнего электрического поля и диссипативного туннелирования на фотолюминесценцию квантовой молекулы с резонансным u-состоянием2 d -центра

In the model of a zero-radius potential, the article studies the influence of an external electric field on the photoluminescence of a quantum molecule, which is connected with the electron radiative transition from U-state to g-term of D -center under conditions of dissipative tunnelling. The photoluminescence probability is shown to increase approximately by two orders when the external electric field strength causes the initially asymmetric double-well oscillatory potential (simulating the quantum molecule) to become a symmetric one. The photoluminescence probability has been shown to be highly sensitive to such parameters of dissipative tunneling as temperature, frequency of phonon mode, and the heat-bath interaction constant.

Soft-potential model and homogeneous width of spectral lines of impurity centers in molecular amorphous media

Yu. G. Vainer, M. A. Kol’chenko, Roman I. Personov

A study is made to analyze the possibility of using the soft-potential model in optical investigations of disordered molecular systems with impurities. A procedure is suggested for calculating the temperature dependence of the homogeneous width of a phononless line in amorphous media with impurities within the soft-potential model. A calculation is performed of the temperature dependence of the width of a phononless line (optical dephasing) in an amorphous system of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) with an addition of tetratert-butylterrylene (TBT) using the parameters of this system known from the literature. Calculations are performed of the contributions to the width of a phononless line due to the interaction of an impurity with tunneling two-level systems, with thermally activated barrier crossings in double-well potentials, and with quasilocal modes of the matrix. The model calculation results are compared with the experimental data on the photon echo for TBT/PMMA, measured by us in the temperature range from 0.3 to 20 K. It is found that the soft-potential model describes qualitatively correctly the temperature behavior of the homogeneous width of a phononless line. In the temperature range of T < 2 K, where the main contribution to optical dephasing is associated with tunneling two-level systems, the predicted values of phononless line width agree well with the experimental data. At higher temperatures, some difference is observed between the prediction and experimental data, which may be due to the effect of impurity on the formation of quasilocal oscillation of the matrix.
