Nonclassical light generation from an optical parametric oscillator pumped by a frequency-doubled diode laser

Kazuhiro Hayasaka, Yun Zhang, Katsuyuki Kasai

Quantum-correlated twin beams were successfully generated from an optical parametric oscillator (OPO) pumped by a frequency-doubled diode laser. The 50-mW diode laser output at 1080 nm was first converted to 22.5-mW green light, and then was used to pump an OPO to yield signal and idler beams with a total power of 5 mW. Noise reduction of 4.3 dB below the shot-noise level was observed in the intensity-difference spectrum. The setup opens a simple way to a compact and low-cost source of diverse nonclassical states of light.

Multimode nonclassical light generation through the optical-parametric-oscillator threshold

Bénoît Chalopin, Francesco Scazza, Claude Fabre +1 more

We show that an optical parametric oscillator which is simultaneously resonant for several modes, either spatial or temporal, generates both below and above threshold a multimode nonclassical state of light consisting of squeezed vacuum states in all the nonoscillating modes. We confirm this prediction by an experiment dealing with the degenerate TEM${}_{01}$ and TEM${}_{10}$ modes. We show the conservation of nonclassical properties when the threshold is crossed. The experiment is made possible by the implementation of a new method to lock the relative phase of the pump and the injected beam.

We show that an optical parametric oscillator which is simultaneously resonant for several modes, either spatial or temporal, generates both below and above threshold a multimode nonclassical state of light consisting of squeezed vacuum states in all the nonoscillating modes. We confirm this prediction by an experiment dealing with the degenerate TEM01{}_{01}01 and TEM10{}_{10}10 modes. We show the conservation of nonclassical properties when the threshold is crossed. The experiment is made possible by the implementation of a new method to lock the relative phase of the pump and the injected beam.
