Triplet FFLO superconductivity in the doped Kitaev-Heisenberg honeycomb model

Tianhan Liu, Cécile Repellin, Benoît Douçot +2 more

We provide analytical and numerical evidence of spin-triplet Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) superconductivity in the itinerant Kitaev-Heisenberg model (antiferromagnetic Kitaev coupling and ferromagnetic Heisenberg coupling) on the honeycomb lattice around quarter filling. The strong spin-orbit coupling in our model leads to the emergence of six inversion symmetry centers for the Fermi surface at nonzero momenta in the first Brillouin zone. We show how the Cooper pairs condense into these nontrivial momenta, causing spatial modulation of the superconducting order parameter. Applying a Ginzburg-Landau expansion analysis, we find that the superconductivity has three separated degenerate ground states with three different spin-triplet pairings. Exact diagonalizations on finite clusters support this picture while ruling out a spin (charge) density wave.

Nature of the mixed-parity pairing of attractive fermions with spin-orbit coupling in an optical lattice

Yufeng Song, Youjin Deng, Yuan-Yao He

The admixture of spin-singlet and spin-triplet pairing states in superconductors can be typically induced by breaking spatial inversion symmetry. Employing the numerically exact auxiliary-field quantum Monte Carlo method, we study such mixed-parity pairing phenomena of attractive fermions with Rashba spin-orbit coupling (SOC) in a two-dimensional optical lattice at finite temperature. We systematically explore the evolution of the essential pairing structure in both singlet and triplet channels versus the temperature, fermion filling, and SOC and interaction strengths, via computing the finite-size results of the condensate fraction and pair wave function. Our numerical results reveal that the singlet channel dominates in the fermion pairing and the triplet pairing has a relatively small contribution to the superfluidity for physically relevant parameters. In contrast to the singlet channel mainly consisting of the on-site Cooper pairs, the triplet pairing has plentiful patterns in real space with the largest contributions from several nearest neighbors. As the SOC strength increases, the pairing correlation is first enhanced and then suppressed for triplet pairing while it is simply weakened in the singlet channel. We have also obtained the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition temperatures through the finite-size analysis of the condensate fraction. Our results can serve as a quantitative guide for future optical lattice experiments as well as accurate benchmarks for theories and other numerical methods.

Rashba spin-orbit coupling in the square-lattice Hubbard model: A truncated-unity functional renormalization group study

Jacob Beyer, Jonas B. Profe, Lennart Klebl +5 more

The Rashba-Hubbard model on the square lattice is the paradigmatic case for studying the effect of spin-orbit coupling, which breaks spin and inversion symmetry, in a correlated electron system. We employ a truncated-unity variant of the functional renormalization group which allows us to analyze magnetic and superconducting instabilities on equal footing. We derive phase diagrams depending on the strengths of Rasbha spin-orbit coupling, real second-neighbor hopping, and electron filling. We find commensurate and incommensurate magnetic phases which compete with $d$-wave superconductivity. Due to the breaking of inversion symmetry, singlet and triplet components mix; we quantify the mixing of $d$-wave singlet pairing with $f$-wave triplet pairing.
