The future of cryptographic algorithm development for intelligent healthcare systems

Andriy Horpenyuk, Olha Partyka, Agbotiname Lucky Imoize

Classical asymmetric cryptographic algorithms have formed the basis of modern cybersecurity protocols across many application areas, including intelligent healthcare systems. For decades, these algorithms have provided effective solutions for ensuring the confidentiality, authenticity, integrity and non-repudiation of information. However, asymmetric cryptographic algorithms rely on mathematical problems with empirically established (but unproven) computational hardness. The development of quantum computing algorithms capable of breaking these classical cryptosystems has created a well-recognised threat to the entire existing cybersecurity infrastructure. In response, national and international standardisation bodies have initiated the development and competitive selection of new, post-quantum cryptographic algorithms. The first such algorithms have already been standardised by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). However, the standardisation process is only the beginning of a much more complex, resource-intensive practical implementation. This chapter analyses recent advances in post-quantum cryptographic algorithms and their relevance to intelligent healthcare systems. It examines modern cryptographic approaches to healthcare data protection, identifies the main barriers to post-quantum migration in healthcare environments and proposes improvements in computational efficiency for basic cryptographic operations.

The Transformative Applications of Quantum Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare, Finance, and Cybersecurity

Pratibha, Pummy Dhiman, Sudha +1 more

Quantum Artificial Intelligence (Quantum AI) is a popular and new computational field that incorporates the use of quantum computing in enhancing Artificial Intelligence (AI). This chapter addresses the use of Quantum AI in three sectors, namely healthcare, finance, and cybersecurity, with a view that the deployment of AI integrated with Quantum computing shall take the respective industry to another level. Quantum AI enhances diagnosis and medical imaging, pattern recognition, and diagnostics, which increases the rate of accuracy or detection and diagnosis of diseases and illnesses. Moreover, Quantum AI optimizes portfolio management, risk evaluation, and prediction, and fraud detection in the financial industry, as well as enhances the computational rate in comparison to current rates. Quantum is used to enhance investment solutions and approaches to assess large amounts of big data as soon as possible, resulting in more potent risk management tools. Also, they improve the detection of fraud in financial transactions by providing a means of detecting the variation in such transactions, making security in online/mobile banking and other facets of electronic payment firmer. On the same level, they defend computer networks and systems from cyber-attacks through massive and complicated structures of analyzing large data sets in an incredibly short period. Technology has certain drawbacks, which include issues in quantum computer hardware, errors that could be present in quantum structures, and moral issues relating to the safety of data and information. A solution to these challenges could only be good if Quantum AI becomes widely implemented across the numerous domains of industry today. This Chapter gives an elaborate overview of the relevance of Quantum AI in healthcare, finance, and cybersecurity, which defines the trend of intelligent and secure computing systems.

Quantum-enhanced digital twin IoT for efficient healthcare task offloading

Ahmed K. Jameil, Hamed Saffa Al-Raweshidy

Abstract Task offloading frameworks play a crucial role in modern healthcare by optimizing resource utilization, reducing computational burdens, and enabling real-time medical decision-making. However, existing Digital Twin (DT)-based healthcare models suffer from high latency, inefficient resource allocation, cybersecurity vulnerabilities, and computational limitations when processing large-scale patient data. These constraints pose significant risks in time-sensitive applications such as ICU monitoring, robotic-assisted surgeries, and telemedicine. To address these limitations, this paper introduces a Quantum-Enhanced DT-IoT framework, integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI), Quantum Computing (QC), DT, and the Internet of Things (IoT) for real-time, secure, and efficient healthcare task offloading. The proposed system introduces two key optimization algorithms: (1) DTH-ATB-MAPPO, which dynamically adjusts task scheduling and resource distribution, and (2) AQDT-IoT, which enhances computational efficiency and cybersecurity compliance in 6 G-enabled IoT networks. By leveraging Approximate Amplitude Encoding (AAE) and Grover’s search, the framework enhances task offloading efficiency, enabling faster decision-making and optimized resource distribution across 6 G-enabled IoT networks. Empirical evaluations show that quantum preprocessing improved Task Offloading Success Rate (TOSR) by 32% and reduced the Error Rate (ER) by 80%, significantly outperforming traditional DT-based healthcare models. These enhancements enable. Additionally, theoretical analysis demonstrates computational speed enhancements, adaptive cybersecurity mechanisms, and improved system scalability, positioning this framework as a viable candidate for future cloud-based quantum healthcare infrastructures, even in resource-constrained hospital environments.
