Abstract

In this paper, we report on a silicon-nitride-based integrated photonic platform. Various electro-optic structures were designed to be included in this platform. Moreover, the process of packaging the silicon nitride chips and their applications for random number generation are discussed.

Abstract We develop a quantum photonic platform that interconnects a high-quality quantum dot single-photon source and a low-loss photonic integrated circuit made in silicon nitride. The platform is characterized and programmed to demonstrate various multiphoton applications, including bosonic suppression laws and photonic entanglement generation. The results show a promising technological route forward to scale-up photonic quantum hardware.

CLASSICAL AND QUANTUM APPLICATIONS OF OPTICAL FOUR WAVE MIXING IN AN INTEGRATED SILICON NITRIDE PLATFORM

Gil Triginer

[ANGLÈS] Integrated photonics provide a very versatile platform for nonlinear optics experiments, due to the tight field confinement that high index contrast structures offer and their great degree of tunability. Two applications of optical four wave mixing, namely squeezed light generation and optical coherence control, are studied and original theoretical results are presented. A silicon nitride platform for integrated nonlinear optics is then developed and devices are designed to demonstrate two mode squeezing generation, as well as optical data frequency conversion and a metrology application.

Silicon-Nitride Platform for Narrowband Entangled Photon Generation

Sven Ramelow, Alessandro Farsi, Stéphane Clemmen +4 more

CMOS-compatible photonic chips are highly desirable for real-world quantum optics devices due to their scalability, robustness, and integration with electronics. Despite impressive advances using Silicon nanostructures, challenges remain in reducing their linear and nonlinear losses and in creating narrowband photons necessary for interfacing with quantum memories. Here we demonstrate the potential of the silicon nitride (Si3N4) platform by realizing an ultracompact, bright, entangled photon-pair source with selectable photon bandwidths down to 30 MHz, which is unprecedented for an integrated source. Leveraging Si3N4's moderate thermal expansion, simple temperature control of the chip enables precise wavelength stabilization and tunability without active control. Single-mode photon pairs at 1550 nm are generated at rates exceeding 107 s-1 with mW's of pump power and are used to produce time-bin entanglement. Moreover, Si3N4 allows for operation from the visible to the mid-IR, which make it highly promising for a wide range of integrated quantum photonics applications.

Quantum integrated photonics

Stefan F. Preble

Integrated Photonic circuits provide a scalable and stable platform for realizing quantum information technologies. In this talk I will discuss integrated photonic chips for the production, manipulation and storage of quantum bits (qubits). I will present two platforms for quantum photonics: one based on Silicon which leverages the high density of Silicon Photonic technologies, and the other based on Aluminum Nitride (AlN) which operates at visible/UV wavelengths and is highly suited for the realization of hybrid quantum systems based on atoms and solid state emitters. Lastly, I will present our related work on integrated photonic packaging at AIM Photonics Test, Assembling and Packaging (TAP) facility. The packaging capabilities include die, laser and fiber attach – all of which enable the realization of complex quantum photonic circuits.

Silicon photonic devices for scalable quantum information applications

Lan‐Tian Feng, Ming Zhang, Jianwei Wang +4 more

With high integration density and excellent optical properties, silicon photonics is becoming a promising platform for complete integration and large-scale optical quantum information processing. Scalable quantum information applications need photon generation and detection to be integrated on the same chip, and we have seen that various devices on the silicon photonic chip have been developed for this goal. This paper reviews the relevant research results and state-of-the-art technologies on the silicon photonic chip for scalable quantum applications. Despite the shortcomings, the properties of some components have already met the requirements for further expansion. Furthermore, we point out the challenges ahead and future research directions for on-chip scalable quantum information applications.
