Analytical solutions of bilinear bosonic models and exact characterization of non-Markovian dynamics

Zhao-Ming Wang, S. L. Wu, Mark Byrd +1 more

The precise characterization of dynamics in open quantum systems often presents significant challenges, leading to the introduction of various approximations to simplify a model. One commonly used strategy involves Markovian approximations, assuming a memoryless environment. In this study, such approximations are not used and an analytical dynamical depiction of an open quantum system is provided. The system under consideration is an oscillator that is surrounded by a bath of oscillators. The resulting dynamics are characterized by an integrodifferential equation, which can be solved numerically. Remarkably, an exactly analytical solution exists when its reservoir spectral density is Lorentzian. Furthermore, this analytical solvability remains when rectangular pulse control is applied to the system, though with different parameters due to the pulses. Moreover, distinct dynamical regions emerge, depending on certain parameter values. Notably, the steady-state average excitation number (AEN) of the system shows rapid escalation with increasing non-Markovianity, reflecting the intricacies of real-world dynamics. In cases where there is detuning between the system frequency and the environmental central frequency within a non-Markovian regime, the AEN maintains its initial value for an extended period. Interestingly, the exact analytical solution with pulse control inherently protects the quantum system from decoherence effects without using approximations, while this protection fades as the system approaches the Markovian regime. The pulse control can not only prolong the relaxation time of the oscillator, but can also be used to speed up the relaxation process, depending on the specifications of the pulse.

Exact solutions of non-Markovian dissipative Ising models

Mohammad Maghrebi

Applications of quantum devices and simulators require an accurate understanding of their dynamics as well as the effects of environmental noise. While some sources of noise can be modeled as Markovian dissipation, coupling to resonators or vibrational modes often produces non-Markovian dynamics as well, making it difficult to characterize the system, particularly for interacting many-body systems. Here, we identify a broad class of exactly solvable many-body quantum systems with both non-Markovian dynamics and Markovian dissipation. We consider a prototypical model of spins coupled to lossy bosonic modes that mediate Ising-type interactions. We exclude a transverse field but allow local spin dissipation that need not commute with the interactions, including dephasing, relaxation, pumping, and even processes that generate coherences. Using an exact stochastic representation, we decouple the many-body dynamics into the evolution of individual spins, yielding exact spin observables and correlations without adiabatically eliminating the bosons. In the Markovian limit, our solutions describe Ising models with correlated dephasing and nonreciprocal interactions. An example of spin squeezing shows that both the achievable squeezing and its optimal preparation time depend strongly on the interplay between non-Markovian dynamics and Markovian dissipation.

General Non-Markovian Dynamics of Open Quantum Systems

Wei-Min Zhang, Ping‐Yuan Lo, Heng-Na Xiong +2 more

We present a general theory of non-Markovian dynamics for open systems of noninteracting fermions (bosons) linearly coupled to thermal environments of noninteracting fermions (bosons). We explore the non-Markovian dynamics by connecting the exact master equations with the nonequilibirum Green's functions. Environmental backactions are fully taken into account. The non-Markovian dynamics consists of nonexponential decays and dissipationless oscillations. Nonexponential decays are induced by the discontinuity in the imaginary part of the self-energy corrections. Dissipationless oscillations arise from band gaps or the finite band structure of spectral densities. The exact analytic solutions for various non-Markovian thermal environments show that non-Markovian dynamics can be largely understood from the environmental-modified spectra of open systems.
